Chapter Text
Amity Blight was not going to mess up again. Her parents made sure of that. That human was not going to continue to distract their daughter. Her parents decided the best way to cure the incessant annoyance that was Luz and Amity's relationship was to get Amity into the Emperor's Coven. It was easy, all they needed to do was pull a few strings and their daughter would be under the command of the Emperor. Of course, her parents were smart enough to realize that simply being in the Emperor's Coven would not dissuade their relationship. But desperate times called for desperate measures and this situation required their daughter to forget about Luz.
It hadn't been easy to curse Amity, given the fact that she was overly suspicious of her parents. Edric and Emira had also been quite the obstacle, interfering with their parents plans. They didn't know exactly what was happening but they knew that something was going to happen to Amity. They themselves failed to realize that they would also fall victim to their parents plans.
It had been a normal family dinner, at least as normal as a dinner could get at Blight Manor. Amity sat quietly in her seat, eating her food and occasionally glancing between her parents. The twins sat close to each other, whispering in a hushed tone which was usual during meal times. Odalia and Alador Blight sat on opposite ends of the table. Odalia looked over to Alador and gave a signaling nod. He turned to Amity.
"Amity, your mother and I have something to tell you. We've noticed that you've been paying less attention to school and you've been hanging around with those... unsavory students. Those who associate with that wild witch." He began explaining.
"You mean my friends? And Eda? Why do you care?" Amity butt in, not looking up from her plate.
"That's beside the point," Odalia replied, a smirk curling on her lips. "Fortunately, you won't need to hang around them anymore. You've been accepted into the Emperor's Coven."
Amity's utensils clattered to the floor. She shot out of her seat and glared at her mother.
"What?! That's not what I want anymore. Can't you just tell them no?" She exclaimed, confused and beginning to become nervous.
Odalia chuckled and looked into her daughter's eyes.
"You have no decision in this, sweetheart. You will be joining the Emperor's Coven. You start tomorrow. The Emperor is pleased that you are joining." She stated, watching her daughter's face fall.
Amity fumed, anger rising within her.
"You can't control my life! I'm allowed to be my own person, even if it doesn't live up to the family name. I'm not just going to forget my old life, my friends, my Luz!" She yelled, tossing the remainder of her dinner in her mother's face though it was quickly combated with a spell.
"Well, we're taking care of the forgetting part for you." Odalia replied, pulling out a scroll.
Amity barely had time to react as her mother muttered the words on the scroll. An overwhelming light filled her vision before she fell into the floor unconscious.
"Are we sure that this was the right thing to do?" Alador asked, looking at the motionless body of his daughter on the ground.
Edric and Emira glared at their parents, standing defensively.
"What did you do to her?!" Emira growled.
"Oh she'll be fine. She will wake up as good as new tomorrow, just without those pesky memories of that human or those friends of hers." Odalia replied, gesturing to her daughter on the ground.
Edric rolled his eyes.
"You cursed her, didn't you? Well, we can just tell her friends what happened." He replied, trying to be cocky.
Alador conjured up two abominations, who wrapped around the twins to restrain them.
"You're despicable!" Emira yelled.
"I'm just doing what has to be done." Odalia replied with a smile.
Alador commanded the abominations reluctantly, having the abominations out stretching the twins hands. Odalia created an everlasting oath with both, ordering them that they couldn't tell anyone about what happened to Amity. Odalia saw the same broken look in their eyes as she had Amity.
Not the worst Blight family dinner. An abomination carried Amity back to her room, laying her onto her bed before rummaging through her room for any relics of her friends. Despite Odalia's clear orders to burn everything, Alador ordered the abomination to tuck everything in box which was tucked away in storage.
Odalia felt proud of her actions that day. She wasn't necessarily proud as a mother but proud as a servant to the greater good. The losses of her daughter were minuscule compared to what she could achieve with Blight Industries and the Emperor's Coven. Alador had retired to his lab early and left Odalia on her own, the twins having either locked themselves in their rooms or left the house. Either way, she couldn't care less. Finally, Amity would live up to her promise. She would become a valuable asset to the Emperor.

Luz had been pacing around the Owl House for the past hour. Amity was supposed to meet her for a date but had never showed. Eda noticed the panic setting in.
"Kiddo, are you doing okay?" She asked, walking up to Luz.
Luz frantically shook her head.
"This isn't like Amity at all. She's painfully punctual and she was supposed to be here an hour ago. I think something happened to her." She explained, stopping her pacing.
Eda looked at her sympathetically. Luz was obviously anxious about the date, but she was definitely correct in the fact that something wasn't right. Amity was not the type to stand Luz up, and if she did, Eda would make sure it never happened again.
"I'm not sure what to do, Luz. Has she told her parents about the two of you? I'm fairly sure they would not be pleased if they found out." Eda suggested, trying to lift some of the fear.
Luz nodded but clearly was unsure if that was the actual reason.
"Yeah, it's probably something with her parents. They're terrible to her. We can sort this out at school tomorrow." Luz replied, not over the issue but attempting to ease her anxiety.
Eda felt bad for her. She knew the two really cared for each other. Amity had spent plenty nights at the Owl House because she despised being at Blight Manor. The fact that Amity hadn't shown up was not good news. Even as kids, Odalia had been one of the cruelest people in Bonesborough. She only cared for her self and her image, going to great lengths to ensure that prestige. It was only natural that it still applied. There wasn't much Eda could do, the Blights were practically untouchable. They controlled practically everything, making sure that their every whim was satisfied.
Luz retired to the couch, watching something on the crystal ball. King hopped up and cuddled next to her. In an effort to lift Luz's spirits, Eda grabbed a packet of something she'd picked from the human realm called hot cocoa. Following the tiny print on the back of a packet, she managed to not screw it up. She carried the drink to Luz, contained in her treasured 30 & flirty mug.
"Hey kid, I-uh made this for you. It's hot co-co-a?" She stated, handing Luz the drink which she gratefully accepted. "Ah caliente!" She muttered, burning her finger on the side and shaking them.
Luz took a few sips before replying to Eda, fending off King as he attempted to drink some as well.
"It's pronounced co-co. But thank you, I haven't had this since last Christmas." She explained.
"The hell is Christmas?" Eda asked confused.
"Oh, it's a human holiday. It's in the winter in the last month of the year. There's gift giving and cookies and it's really fun." Luz responded somewhat cheerfully.
"Ooh, I would love to be showered in gifts!" King interjected.
Eda nodded, acting like she understood what Luz was saying. She gave Luz a loving kiss on the forehead.
"Amity is going to be okay. She's lucky to have you, you're quite the catch. And if she doesn't appreciate you, I'll make her pay." Eda stated, earning a smile from Luz.
Luz tightly hugged her before going up to her room. Eda sighed. Luz was like a daughter to her and her protective maternal instincts had kicked in. She didn't want anyone breaking her kid's heart. Eda had debated visiting Blight Manor and having a few words with Odalia but decided against it. She hoped Luz would be able to sort it out the next day.
Luz had been anxious to go to school. She had convinced herself that everything would be fine, but it didn't erase the pit of doubt in her stomach. What if Amity thought she was too over the top or clingy? She shoved those feelings down as she walked into school, quickly meeting up with Gus and Willow. As they talked she gazed around the halls, hoping to spot Amity.
"Have you seen Amity today?" Luz asked, turning to Willow. "We were supposed to have a date last night but she never showed."
Willow shook her head, Gus following after. She shrugged.
"I haven't heard anything from her. I saw Ed and Em though. Might want to ask them." She replied.
Suddenly, an announcement crackles over the loud speaker.
"Congratulations to Willow Park for becoming the new top student." It bellowed before stopping abruptly.
Principal Bump made his way towards the trio. He stopped at Willow and stuck the top student pin onto her uniform. "Once again, congratulations Mrs. Park." He stated.
As he started walking away, Luz stopped him.
"What happened to Amity as the top student?" She asked, clearly confused.
Principal Bump stopped and gave a sigh.
"Mrs. Blight no longer attends Hexside." He replied, saying nothing else and leaving.
Luz crumpled to the ground, hugging her knees to her chest and rocking back and forth. "This can't be happening." She murmured. Willow kneeled beside her, resting her hand on her shoulder comfortingly. Gus followed suit on her opposite shoulder.
Boscha smirked as she walked past. "What a freak, typical human." She stated aloud. Willow glared at her, eyes beginning to glow.
"Fine whatever." She replied, backing away.
Willow turned back to Luz who was still freaking out.
"Something is really wrong, I know it. Can you go get Ed and Em?" Luz responded, looking up at Willow. She looked over to Gus who gave a nod and raced down the hall, within a few minutes he returned with the green-haired twins.
Luz composed herself and stood up, looking towards the twins. Both seemed on edge.
"You guys, what happened to Amity?" She asked desperately.
Their lips quivered like they were trying to say something but the words were trapped. Emira looked at Luz with sorrowful.
"Can you tell me anything? Why won't you say anything?!" She exclaimed, anger bubbling up.
The twins mimed a spell and their hands shaking between the spell. Luz gasped, all the anger fizzling.
"Everlasting oath. We didn't have a choice." Ed replied quietly.
Something was happening to Amity, something bad. With no way to know what happened, Luz didn't know how to fix it. She would help Amity, no matter what it took.
