Work Text:

Ranboo wanted to leave. Leave this burger truck and go home to his son.
"Ranboo! Are you in there?"
Ranboo opened the door of the truck to see Tubbo standing at the picnic table.
"Oh...hi Tubbo."
"Hey...can I...can I come in?"
Ranboo nodded.
The smell of cooked meat and baking bread filled Tubbos nose as he entered the small burger van.
A silence filled the room. After earlier, the pair didn't know what to say.
"It looks nice Boo."
"Uh thanks. I can't take all the credit it was Wilbur's idea."
Tubbo visibly cringed at Wilburs name.
"How do you trust him?"
"Wilbur? I...I don't. Not entirely."
"Then why? Why do this with him?" Tubbo gestured to the van.
"Because I think he's changed. It was 13 years, I think that anyone can change in that amount of time."
Tubbo considered this.
"You didn't know him before. Wilbur can't change. I don't think I'll ever trust him again so why do you?"
"Because I know what it's like to have no one trust you! I want to be there when he proves everyone wrong and be there for him because having someone there for you means a lot when everyone hates and distrusts you!"
The pair sat there in silence for a second.
"Why are you with Quackity? After the cookie outpost, after everything?"
"He promised me I would be happy, it would be like L'manberg again."
Ranboo was hurt at his words.
"You weren't happy before?" Ranboos voice came out small, sad. Am I not enough for you? , he wanted to ask.
"I was. But with L'manberg it was a different kind of happiness. An...elation, a sense of belonging. That's something I've been missing for a while."
Tears welled in Ranboo's eyes as his husband said this. What Tubbo was describing was what Ranboo felt when he was with Tubbo.
"I see. Well we still have the cookie outpost. We can spend time together there right?"
Tubbo cleared his throat.
"Uh actually about that. I gave the outpost over to Las Nevadas. It belongs to them now."
"You...what."
"If was just some silly outpost. I wasn't in my right mind when I made it. Quackity has shown me that."
Ranboo was...heart broken.
"Uh well look at that my..bread is stale better go put it in the water. I'll see you later bye!"
Tubbo, confused, left the van and headed back to Las Nevadas.

Ranboo cried. It burned but he didn't care. He was heart broken in every way.
Tubbo gave up something that made him happy and proud of and handed it over like it was nothing.
But the one thing that he couldn't place out of his mind was the question of if he was enough.
Tubbo had said he wasn't happy until now.
Ranboo had dedicated months trying trying get Tubbo to be happy and now he's happier than ever. It took one day for Quackity to give him a job and make Tubbo happy. It wasn't fair.
Ranboo took himself out of the equation. He wasn't going to let stupid feelings get in the way of his relationship with Tubbo and Tubbo's happiness.
Even if it left him with a hole in his heart. Even if Tubbo didn't care about him anymore.
Even if he wasn't enough.

That was the first night Tubbo didn't wake up from nightmares. And the first night Ranboo wasn't there to comfort him.
