Work Text:

“Theo…” You looked at your husband with a frown on your face, while he just smiled softly, watching your daughter Elanor playing with Vincent in the gardens as you two were sitting in the gazebo. “We have to talk about this at some point.” You let out a deep sigh, half expecting him to brush the subject off again.

“What do you want me to do, Hondje? Punish her for pranking everyone who very well deserved it?” He didn’t take his eyes off his brother or his child. It was a very adorable scene. Vincent was carrying Elanor on his back, running between the roses and her giggling loudly. “It’s just childish jokes. Nothing more.”

“Childish jokes that can do harm if they escalate. I’m not going to be the bad guy constantly just because you’re working and intend to throw what I say under the bus every time you get home, Theo.” Frustration welled up in your chest as you tried to make him see reason, which was fairly speaking not easy with this particular Van Gogh. A trait Elanor inherited from him. “Just think about what our little miss did yesterday just because she was off school? I should have taken up Napoleon on the offer to take her with him…”

“I don’t know what you’re so worried about. I can’t see an issue.”, Theo said with a shrug of his shoulders, turning his head a bit to look at you.

“Elanor ran into Comte’s room, while he was working, and turned all his hour glasses upside down and in the process she let Time out so we had to chase that ferret through the whole mansion.”, you explained only one of the situations from yesterday, following up by more shenanigans.. “And then she dropped her sandwich in Mozart’s music room. He was furious. And let’s not talk about Arthur’s coffee, where she put salt in.”

Despite the seriousness of the situation, Theo couldn’t help himself but start chuckling. How much he would have loved to see their faces.

“Stop laughing. This is not funny. You will talk to your daughter about this.”

“Yeah, don’t get your tail in a twist. I will talk to her.” He shook his head and turned his attention back to Vincent and Elanor. You let out a long suffering sigh. You could do nothing but hope that he would actually listen to your demand this time. Your daughter was already a little devil, following right into the footsteps of her father, causing so much trouble in the Mansion that even the calm Sebastian had his eyelid twitching sometimes.

Your family was quite different from others, naturally, since you lived with a bunch of vampires and eccentrics… both at the same time.

Dragged out of your thoughts, you saw Elanor running towards you and Theo with a bright smile on her face. “Papa, Mama! Uncle Vincent said that I could go and visit Will with him tomorrow and play with Puck.” She looked so happy, so excited and you were well aware that Theo hated Shakespeare’s guts, but also that neither Vincent nor Will would ever let any harm come to your child.

“No way…”, he started speaking but you interrupted him quickly.

You stared your husband dead in the eye, while talking to your daughter. “Of course, sweety. You can take some of the carrots we didn’t use up for cooking at lunch to bring for Puck.”

“Yeah! Thank you, Mama! Uncle Vincent!! They said yes!” And off Elanor went again, not even paying a second look to her father. You sat there and just snickered quietly while Theo gave you an absolute death glare. Vengeance could be indeed sweet sometimes.
