Charles had snatched you from work a while ago and basically stole you away to spend the afternoon with him instead of doing chores. You were thankful, ignoring successfully the lingering feeling of guilt in the back of your head. He just took your hand and led you into town, a large blanket under his arm. The weather was wonderful and so you two made your way to one of the many parks in Paris. The streets were bustling with people, but you only had eyes for Charles, who was leading you with a huge smile on his face, eyes almost shining with pure happiness.
You couldn’t help but give into a smile of your own, full of affection for the man next to you. You gave his hand a gentle squeeze, catching his attention. A surprised expression on his face when his pale, teal coloured eyes met yours. “What is it?”, he asked, instantly concerned if there was something wrong with you. “You are alright with going out, right?..”
Shaking your head smiling still, you leaned into his side for a short moment to offer him some reassurance that he did nothing wrong. “I just realized how much I like seeing you this happy.”
“Oh.” He seemed still a bit caught off guard, but soon looked once more carefree enough, chuckling quietly. “Alright then. Come on, let’s go.” And off he went again. If he wouldn’t hold your hand, you would have had troubles following him for sure.
Soon enough you were entering the cobblestone path to a large park with a green field of grass in the middle. People were scattered all around it, playing children, families spending time together or others just enjoying the nice weather and a break from everyday life. Charles stopped dragging you along with him under a large tree, which threw a bit of shade onto the soft grass. He spread out the blanket for both of you and sat down the moment he was done, patting his hand on the spot next to him.
You quickly followed him, stretched your legs, hands resting behind you, while you took a deep breath of the fresh air and a warm, fuzzy feeling spread through your heart. With your eyes closed you only felt the gentle fingers running through your hair. A smile on the lips you leaned into the loving touch, pressing a light kiss against Charles’ palm. He tilted your head towards him with his hand, repaying your affection with a kiss of his own on your forehead, then your cheeks and in the end your lips.
You couldn’t help but giggle in glee, wrapping your arms around him from the side. Opening your eyes again, you found a glint of mischief in his. Charles slightly shifted his weight, losing his balance and falling backwards onto the blanket, taking you with him effortlessly. Both of you were laughing upon landing and he was quick to embrace you, though leaving enough distance so he could look at you. There was a happy smile on your face, expression showing nothing but love and affection. No words needed.
The people around the park vanished entirely out of the scene. Nothing mattered right now except for the both of you holding each other close. You reached up to cup one of his cheeks into your hand, thumb gentle brushing along the slightly reddened skin under his eyes. Charles smirked at you and leaned forward to kiss you again, pulling you close in the same movement. He poured all his feelings for you into it, one hand gently resting at the back of your neck while he was kissing you breathless. When you eventually parted, both out of breath, none of you could do anything else but smile. “You are beautiful.”, he said out of nowhere.
“I’m still in my work clothes, Charles.”, you laughed in return.
“But you’re always beautiful to me. I love you and I want you to stay with me forever.” Everything he said caused your heart to race, a blush spreading over your cheeks as you bury your face against his shoulder, speaking out his name in a long suffering sigh. “What did I fluster you? I can’t say I’m sorry.”
You moved back a little and stared at this wonderful, caring, infuriating man that you loved so much. In an act of protecting your own dignity you gave him a shove against the chest. It was nothing that would actually knock him over but Charles playing along, laughing as he rolled onto his back. You curled up against his side, one arm across his stomach and your head resting against his chest. He put an arm around you, his thumb drawing lazy circles against your side. Pure contentment flooded your mind. If there was a moment you would like to freeze in time.. It would be this one.
