Work Text:

It's a lovely day. The sun shines bright and warm in the clear sky. Butterflies, bees and dragonflies land in the various plants and flowers they have planted at the back of their house. With Namjoon helping, Taehyung can finally expand their garden. Because as much as Jungkook was willing and excited to help he doesn't have a green thumb, hell he doesn't have a green cell in his body for that matter.

It's a lovely day and Namjoon can't see any of it.

“Kookie, I can't see anything.” Namjoon repeats and Jungkook can't help but laugh.

“I know, sunshine, that's the point.” Namjoon with his hands outstretched forward, Jungkook has his hands on his shoulders, guiding him gently. Jungkook had wrapped a blindfold over Namjoon’s eyes since before they left the house, and Namjoon has been pouting about it since then.

Jungkook is careful with the wings tucked at Namjoon’s back, they shine pretty and delicate in the sun that filters through the leaves of the trees above. Namjoon doesn't hide his wings often, at first he didn't know how to and was too worried about them disappearing again to want to try. Taehyung has taught him how by now but Namjoon still only ever hides them when they go into town, he doesn't hide them when they're home and he doesn't hide them while he rides on the back of Jungkook’s bicycle.

“Careful!” Jungkook says a second too late and Namjoon stumbles over a root. He manages not to fall, arms stretched forward and wings spread.

“Humph!” He turns to Jungkook with a frown.

“Sorry, baby” Jungkook responds with a laugh, not actually sounding very sorry. He takes Namjoon’s hand and helps him straighten up. “I’m going to take it off now.” His voice is soft, sweet as it always is when he talks to the fairy. Namjoon gives him a small nod and Jungkook carefully pulls the blindfold over his head.

Namjoon blinks a couple of times to get used to the light and gasps at the view before him. They stand at a clearing of soft grass with scattered flowers and mushrooms among tall trees. A quilt made out of squares of various patterns is stretched over the grass, a basket with food wrapped in napkins and inside Tupperware on top of it, along with a bouquet of flowers and a small cassette player. He turns to Jungkook with tears in his eyes. Jungkook avoids his gaze, a blush tinting his cheeks, embarrassment clear in all of his body language.

“Happy anniversary.” He says quietly. Namjoon wraps his arms around Jungkook’s waist, catching him by surprise and pulling him as close to him as possible. Jungkook laughs and Namjoon buries his face in the other’s chest, dampening it with his happy tears. “Do you like it?” He asks, still unsure and nervous. Namjoon nods enthusiastically.

“Yes, Kookie- Yes!” He steps back just for a second, wrapping his arms around Jungkook’s neck instead and pressing his lips against his. Neither can stop smiling so the kiss has more teeth than it should. Jungkook puts his hands on Namjoon’s hips. He breaks the kiss and is filled with an overwhelming amount of love at the sight of his lover. Namjoon’s face is a little red, constant tears spill from his eyes, dampening his cheeks and covering them in sparkling glitter. Jungkook presses kisses all over Namjoon’s face, making him laugh shily.

“I love you so much.” He tells him between kisses and once he is done he presses their foreheads together. They stay like that for a moment, catching their breaths and enjoying each other’s presence.

“Oh! Let me show you!” Jungkook says, finally stepping away and pulling Namjoon towards the picnic. He set it up in a small clearing surrounded by tall trees in the forest that stretches not too far from the creek that runs behind their home, so the sound of running water and the songs of birds can be heard over the soft music that plays from a small cassette player on the blanket and creates a comfortable atmosphere. The sun is still high up in the sky, so even though the air is cold they’re warm. The blanket is messily sewn together, clearly not perfect but Namjoon’s wings still flutter behind him when he sees it up close. He gets down on his knees and looks at the different pieces of fabric that make it up. There are a lot of fairy and flower-themed patterns, but there are also others with mushrooms, moons, stars, suns and hearts. He looks up at Jungkook, his eyes watering and his lip wobbling. Jungkook sits down next to him, pulling Namjoon close and pressing a kiss against his forehead.

“I tried my best. The old ladies at the sewing club were very proud of me.” He laughs and Namjoon runs his hand over the quilt with a smile.

“I think it's very pretty.” He says and Jungkook squeezes him again.

“I think you’re very pretty.” Namjoon laughs and he’d love to stay like that, with Jungkook holding him for longer but then his stomach growls, interrupting the moment. “Let’s eat, sunshine. I'm starving too.” Jungkook lets go of him so that they can change into more comfortable positions and he reaches for the picnic basket. Jimin had helped him prepare and pack everything nicely. Jungkook takes out two sandwiches wrapped in napkins with a strawberry pattern on them and hands one to Namjoon. He also takes out some Tupperware with cut up fruits and opens them nicely on top of the blanket.

Namjoon takes a bite from his sandwich before stuffing one too many grapes in his mouth. Jungkook chuckles and unwraps his own sandwich before taking a bite. He looks through the basket once more and takes out two mugs and pours cold apple juice for both of them. They don't own wine glasses but Jungkook isn't too worried about the lack of elegance, he's not sure how safe he would feel handing Namjoon a delicate wine glass. His clumsy fairy proves his worry right when he accidentally knocks his cup over and spills his juice on the grass. Jungkook pours him some more with a smile when Namjoon hurries to apologize to the grass.

They enjoy their meal while sharing smiles and laughs, comfortably talking and enjoying each other's presence. Jungkook is truly, madly, deeply and foolishly completely in love with Namjoon. And he notices every time Namjoon smiles. Every time the sweet fairy tells him he loves him. Every time he talks to him and simply every time he looks at him. Jungkook loves Namjoon, and he loves showing him how much he does.

Namjoon is telling Jungkook about the kinds of birds that chirp in the trees around them. And it's not that Jungkook isn't interested, because he actually cherishes every word that comes from Namjoon's mouth, but he is just too distracted by the way Namjoon looks, so happy and soft with his big pastel blue sweater and his fluffy hair, that he can't pay attention to a word he is saying. Namjoon steps talking, a big smile on his face as he listens to the forest. Jungkook takes the opportunity to lean in to kiss him, and his mouth tastes like strawberries and apples and Jungkook is in love.

Namjoon breaks the kiss, leaning back with a gasp when a bird suddenly lands on top of his head. Jungkook laughs when Namjoon excitedly asks him what kind it is, but Jungkook doesn't know shit about birds, although Namjoon has tried to teach him before. The little bird ends up flying away before Namjoon can see it and he tries to spot it as it flies away.

Jungkook leans over, picking some of the small yellow and white coloured flowers that have suddenly grown where Namjoon put his hand when he leaned back. He then puts them in Namjoon’s hair, carefully intertwining them before kissing him again.

They make their way back once the food is gone and the sky begins to darken. Jungkook quickly and hastily packs everything back in the basket. Then he's pulling Namjoon along, who is confused when Jungkook doesn't let him stop to play with the fish and the frogs at the creek. But he understands why soon enough.

As they approach the house Namjoon realises the surprise isn't over yet. Fairy lights decorate the back of the house and he doesn't know why but a blanket is secured to a wall. There is a pile of blankets and pillows at the top of the stairs and once Jungkook takes out the quilt from the basket and stretches it on the ground Namjoon helps him accommodate them on top of it. They watch the sunset while cuddling on top of the blankets. And stay like that for a moment, pointing at the stars that fill the night sky.

Jungkook gets back up after a moment and Namjoon whines at the loss of warmth. Jungkook laughs at the reaction and assures him he'll be back soon before beginning to set up a movie on the projector behind them. Namjoon is immediately amazed by the image displayed on the blanket hanging on the wall, even though it's just Jungkook’s wallpaper-- which is, of course, a picture of Namjoon. Then, as soon as Jungkook presses play he scrambles back to the blankets and pulls back a couple of them so they can cuddle underneath.

Halfway through the movie, Namjoon moves to hide his face in Jungkook’s neck and sniffles quietly. Jungkook is alarmed and gently but urgently tries to get Namjoon to look at him.

“What’s wrong, precious?” He asks once he gets Namjoon to look at him. But he smiles happily rather than looking pained and Jungkook exhales relieved. Namjoon shakes his head and cuddles closer to Jungkook, pressing his face against the other's chest.

“You make me so happy.” He giggles and Jungkook squeezes him a little. Sometimes he still has a hard time finding the courage and the words to let Namjoon know how much he means to him. But in this moment he isn't afraid and he dares let the words freely flow from his brain and out his mouth.

“You’re the best thing that has ever happened to me. And I don't think anything better than meeting you will ever happen to me.” Marriage briefly crosses his mind but Jungkook feels too embarrassed by that thought so he pushes it to the back of his mind. “Joonie, I love you so much. I love you more than the amount of stars I'm in the sky right now.” Jungkook is looking up at the stars as he says this, too embarrassed to look down knowing Namjoon is looking at him. Jungkook probably wouldn't be caught dead saying sappy things like these to anyone else. But he knows Namjoon not only likes it but that he needs it, so his love is far stronger than his shyness. He'll be honest and try his best to tell Namjoon how much he loves him till the end of time. “You’re the most precious thing in my life.”

Namjoon sniffles again and Jungkook looks down when he notices the slight glow coming from him.

“You’re shining.” He points out a little surprised and kisses the top of Namjoon’s head. Namjoon makes a sound of acknowledgement but otherwise stays quiet for a moment.

Jungkook pokes his tongue out at Jimin when he notices the other one making kissy faces at him from the kitchen window, and smiles when he sees Taehyung drags him away, barely able to hear the way Jimin protests. The air is chilly now, but under the covers and holding each other so close they can't really feel it.

“I’m just so happy.” The fairy says finally. “I love you, Kookie.” Namjoon doesn't shine too often so Jungkook knows he did something very very right. Like the night he got his wings back, Namjoon only shines when he feels so loved it's too much to hold it in. And Jungkook is pleased every time he gets him to shine.

“I love you too.”

And Jungkook means it. He means it with every cell in his body. And he means it just as much when Namjoon is smiling under the sun, laughing and running with his wings fluttering behind him, as when he whispers it to his sleeping form in the night, when his cheek is squeezed against the pillow and he scratches his nose when Jungkook can't help but kiss him.

Jungkook means it and Namjoon can tell and means it just as much when he says it back.
