Day 3 ~ Eclipse ▪︎ Aptitudes ▪︎ Reincarnation ▪︎ Quote Prompt (see summary)
Bokuto and Akaashi had become quite the pair at Fukurōdani Academy. They were both popular separately, but together, they'd quickly become the talk of the school.
All the third years knew Akaashi as the cute, smart, reserved, second year who the captain of the volleyball team was dating.
And all the second years knew Bokuto as the sweet third year who treated Akaashi like a king.
With some of the things that Bokuto did at school, he wasn't surprised that everyone in his year thought that.
" Akaashi-san's boyfriend is so hot."
"I know. Akaashi is so lucky to be dating someone like him."
"Akaashi’s no pushover either though."
"I know! He's so pretty!"
"Shh! He'll hear you."
"He's having another conversation. He can't hear us."
He almost considered turning around and saying that he could indeed hear everything they were saying (they weren't exactly being quiet), but someone else in his group quickly stopped that.
"Isn't that your boyfriend in the door?"
Akaashi turned and he couldn't help but smile. Waiting for him outside the door was only one of many things that Bokuto always did.
"Yeah, it is."
"It's so sweet of him that he waits for you every day. You two make a cute couple."
Akaashi stood, grabbing his bag. "Thank you. I'll see you all after lunch."
He walked up to Bokuto, who wrapped an arm around his shoulders before walking out the door.
"How was class, Kaashi?"
The second year shrugged, leaning into Bokuto ever so slightly. "It was class."
"I wish I could be as nonchalant about it as you. You're so smart!"
"I'm nothing special."
"I think you’re special!"
Akaashi blushed as the two of them walked into the lunchroom and to a table where the other volleyball third years were waiting.
"Why is it that every time the two of you come, Akaashi’s always red?" Konoha asked. "Are you corrupting our precious second year? We only have one. We need to protect him."
"I can protect him on my own, thank you very much!" He stuck his tongue out at Konoha.
"Debatable…" Washio said under his breath as Akaashi pulled out two bentos.
“I heard that, Washio.” Bokuto graciously accepted his lunch, kissing Akaashi’s cheek before he opened it.
“I swear I’ve never seen you blush so much, Akaashi.”
“It’s only something "Bokuto-san" can do,” Konoha laughed, earning him a glare from Akaashi.
“Please refrain from the jokes, Konoha-san. You wouldn’t understand what it’s like.”
"Damn, Konoha. What'd you do to make Akaashi mad?"
Konoha turned to the libero as he sat. "All I said was Bokuto makes Akaashi blush really easily."
"And all I said was that Konoha-san wasn't dating someone so we wouldn't know what it was like."
"See? Bokuto's already corrupted our only second year. It's only a matter of time before he reaches the first years."
"I haven't corrupted anyone! You're just being ridiculous!" Bokuto replied, wrapping an arm around the back of Akaashi’s chair.
"For once, I agree with Bokuto," Komi said, taking some of Washio's food. "No one ever said that Akaashi was this sweet, uncorrected, second year. Same with the first years."
"Now, hold on! Kaashi is very pure!"
Bokuto was cut off when the ravenette in question started giggling. The whole table turned to him as he broke out into a laugh.
"And now he’s laughing at us…"Konoha sighed, crossing his arms.
"I'm sorry!" Akaashi wiped his eyes, willing himself to breathe. "You guys are just so ridiculous!"
Bokuto couldn’t help but smile. Akaashi was so pretty when he smiled. He honestly didn’t know why he didn’t do it more.
He was brought back into reality when Akaashi leaned into his side, panting for breath while still laughing. “I don’t know why you think Bokuto is corrupting me, but I assure you he’s not, Konoha-san. And you don’t need to worry about the first years. I’ll stop him before he does anything.”
“The two of you act like a newlywed couple,” Washio said offhandedly, taking a sip from his water.
“You think so?” Bokuto looked down at Akaashi, who was now resting his head on his shoulder. He only ever got cuddly in public when he was really happy. Bokuto’s smile grew at the thought.
“See? That’s exactly what I mean. The two of you are stuck in the honeymoon phase.”
“As long as you don’t mess with Akaashi, I have no complaints,” Komi said. The rest of the table nodded along.
“Hold on! I’m the captain! What if Akaashi breaks my heart?! Don't you guys care about me too?!”
“Why would I do that?” The ravenette sat up, looking at his boyfriend.
Bokuto fell in love with the boy all over again as he went back to eating his onigiri. "Keiji…"
“Akaashi’s got Bokuto wrapped around his finger,” Konoha sighed. “And I don’t think either of them realizes it.”
“I swear the two of you can communicate telepathically or something.”
“Telepathy! That would be so cool!”
Akaashi looked between Bokuto and Anahori, unbemused. “We don’t communicate telepathically.”
“But you always know what sets to give him! Anyone on the team really.”
“Do you have telepathy, Kaashi?”
Akaashi resisted the urge to sigh. “Don’t encourage him, Bokuto-san. And no, Anahori, I can’t communicate telepathically with anyone. Learning what sets everyone likes just comes from playing with them for so long. You’ll get there eventually. And I've known Bokuto-san for two years. You just learn to read people.”
That response seemed to appease the first year (though he usually latched onto anything Akaashi said, no matter how true it was), so he walked off once Onaga called him.
Akaashi sighed again, not even looking at the boy next to him. “No, Bokuto-san. I don’t have telepathy.”
“But-”
“It’s not a thing.”
Bokuto sighed, tossing a ball in his hands. "We do make a pretty good pair though." He tossed it to Akaashi, who easily caught it.
The ravenette smirked. "We do, don't we? But then again, I am vice captain for a reason."
"You'll make a great captain too!"
"Not as good as you."
"I'm sure you'll be even better."
"You'll have to give me a few pointers."
"Me? Teach Akaashi? Who would've thought?!"
Akaashi wasn't really sure if Bokuto was talking to him anymore, but he let him continue.
Then he got to thinking. This wouldn't be a thing next year. Akaashi didn't know if Bokuto was going off to college or he was going straight to a professional team. But he certainly wouldn't be at Fukurōdani.
The thought made Akaashi frown without realizing.
"Keiji? You got all sad. What's wrong?"
The ravenette jumped when Bokuto grabbed his free hand. He turned to the ace. "It's nothing. I was just thinking." When Bokuto didn't say anything, he continued. "You're leaving next year. And who knows if you'll stay in Tokyo. It sounds stupid but…I guess I'm not ready for you to leave yet."
"Kaashi…" He pulled the younger boy into a hug. "I'm not leaving yet. And besides, it's not like I'll lose touch with you after high school. I'll call and text you and I'll come visit! And when you graduate, we can go to the same college-"
He was cut off when Akaashi turned to hug him, burying his face in the crook of Bokuto's neck. "I love you."
The ace smiled. "I love you too."
"Hey, you two! What have I told you about PDA?"
The two captains looked over at their coach. "Sorry, Coach!"
Konoha sighed from his place near the net. "Whipped. Absolutely whipped."
"Hey, Kaashi?"
"Yes?" The ravenette didn't look up from his homework. Study dates were a thing they did even before they started dating. Now that they were, it was almost a nightly thing for the one to show up at the other's house.
"I need you."
"For?"
"Ever."
"Oh…" Akaashi's voice cracked loudly. He cleared his throat, looking up at Bokuto like he'd grown a second head. "Okay."
"I'm serious! What you said earlier got me thinking. About how next year we won't get to see each other as much? I don't want that to do anything to us, y'know?"
In all honesty, Akaashi was still trying to recover from Bokuto saying he needed him for the rest of his life. He willed himself to speak. "I don't want anything to ruin us either."
Bokuto moved from the other side of the table to sit next to Akaashi. "Then let’s make a promise to each other."
Akaashi smiled, his face still bright red. "...Okay. What promise?"
"Let's promise that we won't break up. Even if we end up on opposite sides of Japan! Let's stay together!"
"...I will if you go back and finish your homework."
"Akaashi! I'm serious!"
"And I have a better promise." He grabbed Bokuto's face between his hands. "No matter what happens to either of us in the next few years, promise to not forget each other. Or what we have right now."
Bokuto did his best to nod. "I promise! I'll never forget you, Keiji. And no matter where we end up, I'm only a call away, okay? Don't try to handle everything by yourself when I leave. You have to promise me that."
"...Alright. I promise."
"Good." He kissed Akaashi’s nose. "I love you, Kaashi."
Akaashi reponded by pecking Bokuto on the lips. "I love you too, Kō."
