Notes:

Hello peeps:)
This is my first Lored one shot and the first work that I post on here so please be kind^^
Ive fallen madly in love with the relationship of Lorraine and Ed Warren as it is portrayed by Vera Farmiga and Patrick Willson in the Conjuring movies and Ive read this theory a little while ago which broke my heart but was the perfect foundation for a OS. This might turn into a multi OS story if I find more inspiration and I hope you'll enjoy it:)

Chapter Text

8 days. 8 whole days. That’s how long Lorraine had locked herself away in their bedroom after they had come back home from Amityville. Ed spend all those days on the floor in front of their locked bedroom door waiting for Lorraine to come out, hoping to hear at least one sound from her so he could know that she was still alive. Yes, he could have kicked that door in, but he was too scared to see what might be waiting for him behind that door.
Lorraine spend those 8 days sitting on the bed and staring into nothingness. Of course, she missed Ed, she always missed her husband. She also missed her daughter and she longed to be in their arms again. But she also couldn’t bring herself to go outside, to be with her husband and child, to keep doing what they do and to risk her husband´s life like that. Lorraine didn’t really get any sleep in those 8 days, the pain in her lower abdomen and her chest making it unbearable for her to sleep. She knew she had to come out of that room eventually and she knew that one day she had to tell him what was going on. She just didn’t know how.
-
On the morning of the 8th day Ed had lost all the hope to ever see his wife again. He had just send Judy off to school with Lorraine´s mother before he went back to settle into his usual spot in front of the bedroom door, expecting it to be looked.
As he lowered himself to the floor to sit down, he noticed that the door was open. Just a tiny bit, but it was open. Carefully he made his way to the door and pushed it open before he peeked inside. There she was. There was his Lorraine, sitting on the bed and staring to the ground. He knew there was no use in pushing her to tell him what had happened during her vision in Amityville. He knew that her opening the door just a tiny bit, was a sign. A sign that she was ready to see him again. A sign that she needed him. He made his way to the bed and sat down next to his wife. Carefully he took her face in his hands and moved it into his direction, softly forcing her to look at him. When their eyes met, they both could see the pain in each other’s eyes and Lorraine let out a small sob. Ed opened his arms and Lorraine fell into them. As she continued to cry, he started to draw soothing circles on her back. After a little while she slowly calmed down and Ed gently pushed her away so he could look into her red and puffy but still beautiful blue eyes. “Lorraine…” he started, and she looked at him with a slight hint of panic in her eyes. “Ed, I can´t…I can´t tell you.” she stuttered. “Hon it´s okay. You don’t have to. I just want you to know that I am here for you, no matter what. You can tell me what you saw when you feel ready. I won´t push you!” he tried to explain, and she looked at him with relief. “I love you Hon. I am so sorry.” “There is nothing to be sorry for Lorraine. You came back to me, that’s all that matters. I love you so much.” He planted a soft kiss on her forehead and pulled her in for another hug.

“It feels so good to be home Ed.” Lorraine said as she put down her suitcase in the living room. “It sure does. And Judy´s gonna be home any minute. Can´t wait to see our girl.” Ed passed his wife and placed a kiss on her cheek as he walked down to the artefact room to safely put away the artefact, they had brought home from their newest case. They had just come back from 3 day long stay with the Perron family in Harrisville, Rhode Island and they had successfully solved the case. Now both Ed and Lorraine were ready to spend some much-needed family time with their daughter. While Ed was unpacking everything that they had brought with them on their trip, Lorraine was busy preparing their daughters favourite food in the kitchen. She was so focused on mixing the ingredients together, that she didn’t notice her husband who had joined her in the kitchen and who was now standing right behind her. Ed put his arms around Lorraine and snuggled into her, breathing in his wife´s calming sent. “What are we having for dinner Hon?” he asked his wife as he began so place small kisses on her neck. “Mac & Cheese, Judy´s favourite.”, she giggled after he hit a very sensitive spot on her neck. “Ed. Hon you need to stop, or I will burn the sauce. You can set the table if you want to help me. I want everything to be done when Judy gets home from her trip.” she told him. He nodded and turned her around in his arms so he could give her one passionate kiss before he took off to the dining room and set the table. By the time he had finished the door flung open and his daughter came running inside the house, her babysitter, Mary Ellen, right behind her. Their daughter had spent the day at the zoo with Mary Ellen and was clearly excited to be back home and to reunite with her parents. “MOMMY, DADDY YOURE BACK.” she screamed while she threw herself into her mother’s awaiting arms. Lorraine gave her daughter a big hug and a kiss on the top of her head. “I´ve missed you so much baby. Did you have a good day? I made Mac & Cheese its almost finished.” she explained to her daughter before she let her run off to greet Ed. “Daddy I saw an elephant and a giraffe today and then Mary Ellen got me this.” she told her dad while showing him the big stuffed giraffe she had gotten at the zoo today. “That’s awesome sweetie. Did you choose a name for her yet?” he asked his daughter as he kneeled down next to her in order to take a closer look at the stuffed animal in his daughter´s hands. “I think I will name her bubbles.” she almost screamed into her dad´s ears before she run off to the dining table. “Wash your hands before you sit down Judy.” Lorraine told her daughter before she said goodbye to the babysitter and went back to the kitchen to finish dinner. “Thank you for taking care of her Mary Ellen and for buying her that giraffe. She loves spending time with you, and I think it makes her feel less alone when we are gone.” Ed told the babysitter as he walked her to the front door. “Your welcome Mr. Warren. I love this little girl she´s like a sister to me. Bye I will see you on Monday when I take her to school. Have a great weekend.”
Ed closed the front door and walked back to the dining room where both his wife and daughter were already sitting at the table, waiting for him to join them. He sat down and all three of them started to eat while Judy kept telling her parents everything about her trip to the zoo and all the exciting thing she had seen. “During lunch we saw Laura and her parents. Sarah is gonna have a sibling. I guess her parents decided to have a baby her mom is all pregnant and stuff.” Judy explained, “Maybe I can get a sibling too one day?” she asked and looked to her parents with excitement in her eyes. Ed looked up from his plate and started to laugh a bit. “We´ll have to see about that sweetie.”, he tried to explain while he looked to his wife, searching for help. He quickly realised that his wife had tensed up and that she was staring at her plate while she was obviously fighting tears. “Hon? Hon are you okay?” he asked and tried to get her out of her trance. As he leaned over the table, to gently squeeze her hand, she flinched and pulled her hand away. “Sorry. Yes, yes I am.”, Lorraine said and tried to look away from her husband, who was trying to make sure she´s okay.
“Mom, I´m done. Can I go to my room now?” Judy asked her mother, not realising that something was going on with her parents. “Yes honey. Don’t forget to wash up and you gotta get ready for bed soon.” Lorraine said. “I´ll come and tuck you in in a bit Judy.” Ed added before Judy jumped of and ran upstairs to her room. Lorraine and Ed remained seated and Ed tried to reach for his wife´s hand once more. This time Lorraine didn´t flinch away and locked her eyes with his. He looked at her and as she gave him a small smile, he could see the pain in her eyes, that she was so desperately trying to hide. “Lorraine, what´s going on? Talk to me please.” he asked. “I´m fine Ed. It´s nothing. I´ll do the dishes, can you tuck Judy in? It´s already way past her bedtime.” she mumbled and pulled her hand out of Ed´s while she stood up. “Lorraine!” Ed said a bit louder than he had anticipated, “talk to me.” Instead of answering him she made her way over to his side of the table and gave him a kiss on the cheek in order to signalise him that everything was okay. Of course, he didn´t believe her. He knew Lorraine better than anyone else and he always knew when something was going on with her. He just couldn’t place where this sudden mood change had come from. As Lorraine grabbed the plates and went off to the kitchen to start cleaning up, he sighted and made his way up to his daughter’s bedroom.
-
A little while later Lorraine was brushing her hair and getting ready for bed as Ed walked into their bedroom. “She all tucked in?” Lorraine asked her husband as she pulled back the covers and crawled into bed. “Yeah, all tucked in. I feel like she has grown up so much in the last few months.” Ed said in a sentimental tone. “That she did. She will always be our little baby tho won´t she?” “Yes, she will be. Our little princess. I kinda miss having a baby around tho…” Ed mumbled while he walked in and out of the bathroom, getting ready for bed. Lorraine suddenly became very silent and laid down in bed, almost hiding herself under the thick covers.
“Hon?” Ed asked after he had turned off the bathroom lights and walked over to his side of the bed. “Hon, what´s going on? I´m not stupid I know that something is bothering you. Please talk to me. Let me help you.” he said as he crawled into bed beside his wife and turned off the light on his nightstand, the room now being as dark as the night. Lorraine didn´t answer. She pretended to be asleep, trying to avoid that much needed conversation with her husband. She normally wasn´t like that at all. Normally the two of them talked about everything, always comforting each other, but Lorraine just wasn´t sure how to tell Ed what has been on her mind. Lorraine hadn´t really be the same ever since they got back from Amityville, which was over a year ago, but she always did her best to hide her feelings from Ed. Of course her husband had noticed the changes in her mood, but he had never pushed her to tell him what she had seen in Amityville. He knew that she would come and talk to him when she was ready. But Lorraine feared that she wouldn´t be able to hide it from him much longer. She had to tell him. “Hon please. I know you´re still awake.” Ed said as he tried to wrap his arm around her waist to pull her close. Lorraine tensed up as soon as she felt her husband´s arm slowly making its way around her waist and tried to move away from him. “Okay THAT’S ENOUGH!” he yelled, pulled his arm away, sat up and turned on the light. “I want you to talk to me right now! Something is clearly not right, and I can´t do this anymore. You´ve been different ever since you had that vision in Amityville and locked yourself away. It has been over a year Lorraine. Please tell me what the f*** is going on?” Lorraine knew that she had hit a nerve because in all those years of being married to Ed, she had never seen her husband like that. She slowly moved away from under the covers and sat up to face him.
“Ed I…I don’t know how to tell you. It´s…” she said while nervously played with her wedding ring. “Lorraine please, whatever it is…we can face it. Together!” he answered and took her hand into his, gently rubbing over it with his thumb. “What I saw at Amityville it…it was horrible. I think it was some sort of a warning. It…you…” she started to explain. “What did you see Lorraine?” Ed asked in a soft tone and squeezed her hand in order to show her that it was okay and that he was with her. “You…you died. You died in my vision Ed and I just couldn’t take it. I´m very sure that this was a warning and I´m scared Ed. I´ve been scared ever since. I…I can´t lose you!” she said while more and more tears made their way over her cheeks. “Oh Hon.” Ed said and pulled her in for a hug. “It´s okay. It was just a vision. I am here and I´m not going anywhere. It was just a vision.” “Ed…I´m sure it was a warning. Please Hon we…we have to be careful. I can´t lose you, I don’t know what I´d do without you. I need you.” Lorraine said and Ed could see the panic in her eyes. “Hon, I promise I´m gonna be careful. We both will be because I can´t lose you either. I love you.” he said and gently pulled her in for a long kiss, that he filled with all his love. “I love you too Ed.” she said after they had both gasped for air. Ed leaned his forehead against hers and gently placed his hands on her cheeks. “Is that why you looked yourself away for 8 days?” he asked carefully. She gave him a small nod before she started to speak again. “There…there´s more…” “More?” he asked. Lorraine took a deep breath and tried to push away another wave of tears. “I…I was pregnant.” she immediately looked down after she had said that. She just couldn´t see his face right now. She wasn’t ready to see the pain in his eyes. They pain of realisation that they could have had another baby by now. Ed looked at her in pure shock, “You what?” “I had a miscarriage.” Lorraine said in between her sobs. “What? How? When? Why didn’t you tell me?” Ed stuttered. Lorraine tried to take Ed´s hand in hers but he pulled away which only made her cry more. “I am so sorry Ed. I had no clue that I was pregnant. I felt super dizzy after I had that vision in Amityville, but I thought it was because of the vision. And then…” she tried to catch her breath and tried to calm herself down before she continued to explain to her husband what had happened, “then…I had cramps while we were in the car on our way back home but I thought I was getting my period. The pain got worse after I had locked myself away, I started bleeding and I knew that that amount of blood wasn´t normal. I spend a day in the bathroom because it wouldn´t stop bleeding and the pain was unbearable. I was so scared Ed.” Lorraine´s voice was now filled with panic as she tried to reach her husband´s hand again. She needed him now. Ed jumped off the bed and walked to the other side of their bedroom as he tried to sort his thought. He couldn´t believe that this was happening. “Why didn´t you tell me Lorraine? I would have helped you. You kept this from me for over a year?” he yelled. Lorraine got up from their bed and walked over to her husband. “Ed, Ed please look at me.” she said, and he finally looked at her again. The pain that Lorraine could see in her husband´s eyes broke her heart. “I was so scared Ed, my vision I…I was so scared that something would happen to you as soon as I stepped out of that room. And it took me such a long time to wrap my mind around the fact that I had just lost a baby, that I didn´t even know existed. I went to see a doctor the day I finally got out of our bedroom, while you were out with Judy and he confirmed it. I was about 8 weeks along when I lost it. I just didn´t know how to tell you. I know I made a mistake but…I just couldn´t tell you.” “Were you planning on telling me one day? This was my baby too. I had a right to know right away Lorraine. I can´t believe you would keep this from me.” he said after he had tried to calm himself down a bit, not wanting to weak up Judy with yet another outburst. “Ed please you have to understand. I…I wanted to spare you from that pain. I tried to push my thoughts away as good as I could this past year. I tried to forget the fact that I lost our baby. But then Judy talked about baby´s and a possible sibling at dinner and the pain just got too much. I know I messed up. I know I should have told you right away, but I just didn’t know how. Please Ed, please forgive me.” she said. Ed sunk down and leaned his head against the wall, his eyes closed as a few tears made their way across his cheeks. Lorraine knelt down in front of him and placed her hand on his knees. The thought of losing her baby still hurt her more than anything in this world but she had had over a year to find a way to deal with that pain. But Ed had only found out a few minutes ago and she knew she needed to be there for him now. “Hon, please look at me. I know I messed up. I am so so sorry. Please look at me. I love you so much.” she said while more and more tears were streaming down her face as well. He finally opened his eyes and looked at her. Ed normally never cried but right now he couldn’t stop his tears. He felt like his heart was being torn into pieces as he thought of his wife sitting in their bathroom in pain. He couldn’t even imagine how painful this must have been for her. And all of a sudden all of the anger that he had felt towards Lorraine for not telling him sooner was gone. All he could focus on now was the fact that his wife, his Lorraine, had been in pain and that she had been all alone. He mentally punched himself for not kicking that bedroom door in. He could have been there. He could have supported her. “I love you too Lorraine. I just wish you would have told me sooner. I would have helped you. I can´t even imagine how much pain you must have been in. Physically and mentally. I´m so sorry Lorraine.” “You have nothing to be sorry for Hon. It´s me who has to be sorry. I sould have told you as soon as it happened. I wish I could change everything.” she said. “It´s okay Lorraine. Come here.” he opened his arms and she let herself fall into his strong arms. He started tracing small soothing circles on her back, “We can´t change what happened, but please promise me that we will be honest with each other from now on. I can´t lose you and I can´t deal with you looking yourself away from me again. We are a team okay? No matter what!” he said and placed a soft kiss on her forehead. Lorraine nodded and snuggled herself closer into Ed´s arms.
They stayed like that for a little while, both of them trying to realise what had happened. Suddenly Lorraine moved out of Ed´s embrace and looked into his eyes. “We can still have another child one day. The doctor said I´m healthy.” she whispered. Ed leaned his forehead against Lorraine´s, “One day.”. He gave her a small kiss before he stood up, carefully pulling his wife up with him. “Let´s get some sleep Hon. We both need it.” Lorraine took his hand as they both walked over to their bed. Ed turned off the light and crawled into bed beside her, pulling her close as soon as she laid down next to him. “I love you Ed. And I´m so sorry really.” Lorraine said as Ed wrapped his arms around her waist, tugging on her hips so her back lay snug against his chest. “I know Hon. I love you too, nothing will ever change that.” he answered as he tucked his face into her neck, inhaling her sent. Sleep slowly starting to take over him, the warm feeling of his wife and her sweet sent lulling him into a peaceful sleep. “Goodnight Honey.” Lorraine sighed. “Goodnight Lorraine” Ed responded as he kissed her cheek. And they both fell into a peaceful sleep.
