    Summary

Kubler-Ross, Worden, Freud, Stroebe and Schut. Shuichi knew their research extensively, could identify exactly what was going on with him.

Denial- he had passed that long ago.

Anger- at himself, at Kokichi, at everyone else. That too had gone.

Bargaining- he had tried, of course.

Depression- he never could seem to get past it.

Acceptance- if it meant simply acknowledging the loss, he was there. If it meant moving on…

To accept the reality of the loss- accepting that he’d never again see that smile or wake up to the most beautiful person he’d ever seen was far from simply ‘difficult’.

To work through the pain or grief- trying and succeeding were, of course, different.

To adjust to life without the deceased- if anything was impossible, Shuichi knew it to be that. Life would never be okay without him.

To maintain a connection whilst moving on- he was hardly sure what that meant.

    “Melancholia”, they had called it.

    “Depression”, we call it.

    “Heartbreak,” he called it.

They say it was to better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all.

    Shuichi disagreed.
