Bride of the Demon

Summary:

Book I of The Bride of the Demon series

Y/n L/n gave everything up for her baby sister. Her freedom, thoughts, feelings, and her only family. Now the only thing Y/n knows is the League of Assassins. She was trained to kill, to be precise, to never miss. Her mission: be the perfect wide for Damian al Ghul, the hot headed grandson of Ra's al ghul.

Damian al Ghul never thought he had to respect Y/n. He knew why she was there but he didn't care. The only thing Damian was focused on was being the perfect solider and heir to his grandfather. He never bothered with emotions - they weren't a necessity.

But when Ra's is murdered by Deathstroke, Y/n and Damian are forced to embark on an adventure with the Batman - Damian's father.

As they are on their journey they face difficulties. How will the two react outside of the League? What will happen to Damian if Y/n gets hurt?

Will Y/n forever remain as the bride of the Demon?

Notes:

I started this series when I was in like 7th grade. The COMPLETE original series is on Wattpad. It is unedited so it's not the best writing which is why I am editing it on ao3.

In the original book, Y/n is 11 since Damian is 10 in the movie but I am aging them up a year. So Y/n is 12 and Damian is 11.

NOTHING gross happens between them since they are children. Like I said, this series is a slow burn.

This book follows the plot of Son of Batman so I suggest watching it first since some scenes will be excluded.

DC owns its characters, I own Y/n's superhero persona, you own you.

Chapter 1: Chapter One

Chapter Text

Above the fog and away from the rest of civilization, deep within the mountain tops, hosted a group of deadly assassins. They trained for years, fighting as their leader wished and taking the lives of whoever got in their way. Never stopping to think what was right. Never going against their commands. Never losing. Losing meant they lost their place in the League of Assassins. It meant a fate worse than death.

The hot sun beat down on the soldiers as they trained. The synchronized grunts and punches to the air in front of them as they stood solid in their position. They swung their swords, making sure to keep the perfection they had trained so hard for over the years. The uniform way of moving gave each individual the look of unity. That they were a part of something bigger than themselves.

Above the soldiers, on a well kept terrace protected with blood red metal fencing, held the leader of the assassins and those who served directly beneath him.

“Here is your legacy, Damian.” Ra’s al Ghul spoke to the boy beside him. “Here is your inheritance. The League of Assassins.”

The child kept his posture straight, hands to his side. His eyes never straying from the training field.

“Yes, Grandfather,” Damian replied.

Behind Ra’s and Damian stood a woman, her brother, and a girl. The woman, Talia al Ghul, kept forward, taking in the scenery. The girl, however, snuck glances at the heir. She kept the same posture - facing the soldiers and hands to her side with a neutral face - but let her eyes flicker to Damian. It was a bad habit she had picked up ages ago. Never being able to not look at Damian. She blamed it as a side effect of the chain keeping her here. It was a habit she needed to hide. If Talia, or anyone really, discovered she looked at Damian without being spoken to it would result in a beating. She had found that out the hard way.

Because Y/n L/n was not somebody in this world. She was a prisoner of the League. A servant to Damian. And servants were meant to be obedient.

“They,” Ra’s referred to the soldiers, “will be yours to command. To make certain the Earth abides in natural contentment… without the abuse of man.”

Before Damian could give his response, Talia’s brother fell to the ground, shot. He was dead. Everyone turned around and Ra’s readied his sword.

“We have been breached. They are already inside,” he declared. “Take the boy!” He ordered Talia. She grabbed her son and they jumped off the terrace. “Girl, follow them!” Y/n followed after the two, being left to fend for herself once more.

As Y/n landed next to Damian and Talia, helicopters surrounded the gate preventing anyone from escaping. It shot at everyone, killing by the hundreds and bombing areas. Talia led the children behind a pillar.

“Stay here.”

Moments after she left, Damian grabbed a dropped handgun and went out to fight. Y/n ran after him, knowing what would happen to her if he was killed. She took a bow and quiver of arrows from a body and followed the boy. She shot those who tried to attack her and kept going in an attempt to find Damian.

Y/n rounded a corner to find Damian watching as Slade Wilson, a former member of the League, stood over a burnt body. Y/n ran over to Damian, her eyes filled with unwanted worry then to the man on the floor. She raised her eyebrows in surprise. The dying man was Ra’s al Ghul.

Slade was about to kill Ra’s when Damian ran over to them.

Y/n gasped and reached out to stop him, “Damian, wait!”

Damian kicked Slade away from his grandfather, the enemy quickly recovering from the surprise attack with a snarl. Damian kneeled beside Ra’s with a poor plea for him to stay alive. Y/n ran over to Damian and aimed her weapon at Slade, waiting for him to attack. Slade ran and jumped, missing Damian as he tried to dodge the arrows. Damian retaliated and struck him but Slade overpowered him and threw him, causing Damian to crash into a wall and fall to the floor with a grunt. Y/n jumped on Slade’s back and wrapped her arms around his neck but ended up on the floor next to Damian.

“So you’re Talia’s little bastard,” Slade looked at Damian then at Y/n. “And you’re the future al Ghul bride. Not bad for children. But now, we end it.”

Slade ran forward and swung his katana. The children dodge his advances with ease. Damian managed to cut down a supporting pillar which caused the floor above them to crash onto Slade’s head. As he tried to stand up from the rubble and debris, Y/n grabbed an arrow and lodged it into his eye. She yanked it out as he screamed in pain and placed it against her bow.

“Now your heart!” The young al Ghul lunged forward to attack the man but Slade threw smoke pellets onto the ground. The air fogged with a cloud of thick black smog, signaling a retreat. Damian and Y/n covered their mouths to protect themselves from the polluted air. Soon enough, helicopters filled the air once more.

“I’ll make you suffer for this! Next time!” Slade threatened.

Damian and Y/n watched as the team pulled Slade into the helicopter.

“Ubu,” Damian glared as they flew away.

The two ran back to the training field. Fires were broken out. Bodies littered the ground. Blood stained the sand. The helicopters left the mountains, bringing their surviving soldiers with them.

Damian raised his sword up at the empty sky. “Come back and finish, you traitors!”

“Damian, your grandfather,” Y/n reminded him. She scolded herself for talking but this seemed too important for Damian to notice.

Damian’s eyes widened and he pushed past her as he ran back to where Ra’s body was left. She ran after him once more. The boy shouted for his missing grandfather but he was not there. He looked around and saw an open door emitting a green glow. He followed the light as Y/n chased after him down a spiral staircase.

Damian was standing at the edge of the stairs gazing at a pool of neon green water. The Lazarus Pit. Y/n was never allowed to see it in person but she knew what it was. It granted immortality to those who bathe in it. Y/n felt someone behind her and looked back, it was Talia. The girl quickly turned forward to not show disrespect. The group looked down and saw Ra’s body near the water, nearly touching it. Damian walked to him with a sorrowful expression.

“Damian,” his mother reached out.

He dropped his katana and kneeled beside his dead grandfather. Y/n held back her comments and stayed next to the rest of the League soldiers that came into the room. They all watched as Damian struggled to move Ra’s into the Pit. Y/n glanced at Talia when Damian managed to carry Ra’s. Talia stopped her son from putting Ra’s into the water.

“He’s dead. The Pit can’t restore a body this damaged. He’s beyond healing.” Once he set Ra’s down, Talia placed her hands onto Damian’s shoulders. “You did your best.”

Y/n felt sorry for him. Damian never got sad over anything. She kneeled along with the rest of the soldiers to pay her respect.

“I failed,” he shut his eyes.

Talia stood and walked over to Y/n. “We can’t think about that now. We have to move. Come,” she ordered. “Damian, now!” Damian wasn’t listening so she grabbed his arm and pulled him to the exit. “Y/n,” Talia looked down at the girl. Y/n stood up and followed them.

“Where are we going?” Damian asked the question Y/n was wondering.

“Gotham City. It’s time to meet your father.”
