love in three parts

Summary:

It wasn't like anyone else could stop the Phoenix.

Notes:

Chapter 1: (01)

Chapter Text

She hadn't meant to fall in love with Jean—or Scott.

"You know, love isn't something you mean to do," Jean's warm, friendly, ever-helpful voice commented wryly in the back of Rogue's head.

"You have your opinions. I have mine," Rogue commented with the same bite she always used. No need to change it up just because she thought Jean's hair was pretty and she was really, really nice in the same way that Scott was really, really nice—friendly, beautiful, perfect. Disgustingly perfect.

A knock at her door.

"Now you knock first."

"Rogue? Can I come in?"

Urgh. "Fine."

Chapter 2: (02)

Chapter Text

"We should have a plan." Scott was full of ideas on how to try a threesome for the first time and had laid out all the important supplies: condoms, gloves, sheer silky sheets and lingerie designed to cover more of someone's skin (Rogue's)—

"A collar?" Jean floated it upward speculatively.

Rogue tucked the finger of one glove between her teeth and slid it off slowly. It was surprisingly hot.

Scott swallowed.

"Sometime," Jean said thoughtfully, "we should try body-sharing."

Rogue looked thoughtful back.

"In the meantime, someone is too dressed."

Rogue reached for Scott's buttons. The collar telekinetically snapped on.

Chapter 3: (01)

Chapter Text

"Scott. You have to let her go." Rogue's nails bite into her arms. She looks at Scott, hovering over Jean's body, tears in his eyes. She doesn't look at the post-apocalyptic world around them, all fire and ash and semi-disintegrated campus buildings.

"It wasn't her fault," Scott whispers.

She wants to say, "I know," with her own voice, but it chokes on the way out, turns softer, sweeter. "Scott."

He looks up then, stares.

It wasn't like anyone else could stop the Phoenix. It had been the three of them for a while now, and Jean—

Well, it still was.
