In Snape’s private home in Spinner’s End, there’s suddenly a knock on his door.
Snape raises an eyebrow. Who in Merlin’s name could that be? Nobody knows where he lives, no one except for Dumbledore. And…
Curious to see if his assumptions are correct, Snape rises from his seat and heads towards the door. He slowly opens it.
He’s met by his friend who he hasn’t seen since the Wizarding War - Lucius Malfoy. His wife and son, Narcissa Malfoy and Draco Malfoy, are here, too.
“Severus. It is good to see you again, my friend. We were hoping you would be home. Do you mind if we come in?” Lucius asks after a while.
Snape nods as he steps aside to let the three people in. He closes the door when they all have entered.
He turns around to look at the Malfoys. “Where have you been all this time, Lucius?” Snape questions.
Lucius chuckles. “We have been hiding, my friend. We simply cannot go to Azkaban. I have been there before, and believe me, that place is horrible. No wonder Cissy’s sister is crazy” he explains.
Narcissa glares at Lucius for his comment about her sister, but she doesn’t say anything. He is right, after all.
Draco clears his throat. “Father, are you not going to ask him?” the boy asks while looking bored.
“Ask me… about what?” Snape slowly questions while raising an eyebrow.
Lucius clears his throat. “Ah, right. We have come here, Severus, to ask you a favour. We would like to ask you if we could hide here in your home. We know that you would not turn us in. Do not worry, you will barely notice that we are here” he says as he gives him a smile. Narcissa gives a friendly smile as well.
Snape sighs. “Of course, I cannot just turn you away now, can I? And of course I will not turn you in. Make yourselves at home. It is not the Manor, but I hope you will somehow manage. Upstairs are the bedrooms. The right one is mine while the left one is a guest bedroom. We can conjure some beds so that you all can sleep in there” he tells them while pointing to the stairs.
Lucius looks a bit bewildered. He has been here before, drinking firewhiskey with Snape when he needed some time away from work and his family, but he didn’t know that he only had two bedrooms.
He clears his throat once more. “Thank you, Severus. We are truly grateful. We knew that we could count on you” Lucius says, looking grateful at his friend.
Snape nods as he shows them to their room. They are met by a quite small guest room. They definitely aren’t used to this.
In the room is a queen size bed and a closet. Snape conjures a mattress with a pillow and a duvet on the floor for Draco to sleep on.
“Here you go. You came just in time for dinner, by the way. It will be done in a minute” Snape tells them.
Nodding, they all go down to sit at Snape’s very small dinner table. He uses transfiguration so there’s enough space for four people. As it’s usually just him, there’s only space for no more than two people.
They all sit at the table and eat their meal in comfortable silence. They are having stew.
When they are all finished eating, Narcissa is the first to break the silence.
“Thank you for the food, Severus. And thank you for helping us. It means a lot to us” she says as she smiles.
He merely nods. They all then go upstairs and mutter good night before entering their room.
The next morning, Snape wakes up and goes downstairs to get a cup of coffee to wake himself up.
When he enters the living room, he’s met by Lucius… sleeping on the couch?
He raises an eyebrow at the sleeping man before deciding to wake him up. Lucius is startled as he’s being rudely awakened. He hates when people interrupt his beauty sleep.
“Was the bed not comfortable enough?” Snape asks in a mocking tone.
Lucius sighs. “Draco talks in his sleep and Narcissa takes up all the space in the bed. I figured I might as well sleep here” he says as he huffs.
Nodding, Snape makes two cups of coffee with wandless magic. He offers the other one to Lucius.
“Thank you, Severus” Lucius says as he takes a sip. He sighs in pleasure. He really needed this to wake him up.
After a while, Lucius looks at Snape. “What is this?” he questions as he points to the enchanted notebook on the coffee table.
Snape sighs as he’s reminded that he promised Y/N that she could stay in Spinner’s End.
“It is an enchanted notebook” he simply says.
Lucius raises an eyebrow at that. “Is that so? Let me guess, Y/N has the other one?” he asks, already knowing the answer.
Snape looks surprised for a moment but quickly hides it with his usual unreadable expression.
“How did you know?” he questions.
Lucius laughs. “Forgive me for invading your privacy, but I did read your notes. It is rather cute that she draws hearts for you” he says as he smirks at his friend.
Snape can’t help but smirk as well. “Indeed. And then you would know that I have promised her a stay here in Spinner’s End” he says as he raises an eyebrow.
Lucius chuckles. “Yes, I am aware of that. But that is fine, isn’t it? Cissy and I have missed her dearly, you know. You are going to tell her that we are here, right?” he questions him curiously, believing that there is no way he wouldn’t tell her.
Snape shakes his head. “I do not think that will be wise” he simply says.
Narcissa and Draco then enter the living room.
“Good morning you two. So this is where you have been sleeping, Lucius” Narcissa says as she chuckles. She then looks at the two men’s serious faces.
Meanwhile, Draco makes himself a cup of coffee.
“What is going on?” she slowly asks.
“He will not tell Y/N that we are here!” Lucius exclaims while Snape rolls his eyes.
“Correct. If I do, then she might accidentally tell her friends who might accidentally tell Dumbledore. And then you three will be in trouble” Snape says as he glares at them.
Lucius rolls his eyes, too. “Come on, Severus. I am sure she will not tell anyone” he reassures him.
As Snape keeps glaring at him, Lucius throws his hands up in the air. “Okay, my friend. We will listen to you. However, what will you do when she gets here?” he questions him.
Snape smirks at him. “You three will be out the door while she is here, of course” he states.
It won’t work out like that, though.
