Work Text:
McCoy enjoyed his downtime, honestly he did. The break he got from the bustle of the medbay and the tedious busywork he gave himself when the crew weren’t in a near death experience with whatever space anomaly they attracted to themselves that week. It was a seldom occurrence, but McCoy let himself relax nonetheless.
The ease in which he went about his routine, finally able to catch his breath and get ahead of whatever paperwork he needed to do. But everything was caught up. Supplies inventoried and ordered for pickup at the next starbase they docked at. Patient charts updated and prescriptions refilled. And so he allowed himself to take a break.
He passed by the replicator, pausing for a moment before ordering himself a mint julep iced tea. The item materialized in seconds and McCoy grabbed it. Allowing himself a sip before walking towards the lounge area of his room. The tea was not as good, not as pure, as a freshly prepared non replicated beverage, but you couldn’t be that picky when one was in the middle of space. The lounge area of his room barely touched and used even moreso.
He sat his drink down on the table, grabbing the guitar he kept propped against the wall as he sat down. His fingers resting against the strings as his other hand brushed along the bottom. Stopping as the wood texture shifted to plastic from the stickers Johanna had lovingly placed on the instrument. He began to strum, humming softly under his breath as he let his mind wander back to those summer evenings in Georgia when Johanna was his, if only for a few days. And his smile grew wider at the memory of Johanna’s eyes shining brighter than the stars that last night they spent together.
