Chapter Text
When Bakugou, maybe the most private and reserved person they had ever met, approached the self-proclaimed ‘Bakusquad’ with an invitation to dinner, none of them thought he was being serious. It took Bakugou nearly withdrawing his invitation to convince them that, yes, this was real, and yes, they were going to not only see Bakugou’s house and get a better look at his private life but also meet his parents. For the group, that thought alone was more than reason enough to accept.
"Guys, guys. We need to calm down and think this through.” Mina said with a mischievous glint in her eye, a look that could only mean trouble. The group had met up per her request to discuss their plans for the following day.
“What do you say we make this a little more interesting?”
“More interesting than seeing Bakugou’s baby pictures and meeting his parents?” Kaminari asked rhetorically, practically vibrating with excitement. Kirishima cringed at the idea, not wanting to intrude on Bakugou’s private life any more than they already were. Bakugou had made it perfectly clear when he invited them that he was being pressured into it by his parents and had no choice, so he couldn’t help but feel bad for whatever the group would get into.
“Guys, shouldn’t we respect his privacy? Why don’t we just go, be polite and try not to get murdered by Blasty while we’re at it?”
Sero let out a choked laugh, “Right dude, as if. Mina, what do you say we make this a competition?” He looked over at Mina who had a small smirk on her face.
“Perfect idea, Hanta. I was thinking the same thing. Whoever learns the most embarrassing thing about Bakugou that can be used as blackmail by the end of the night wins.”
“Oh, you’re on. Just don’t be surprised when you all lose miserably. I have a way with the ladies. Bakugou’s dad better look out or I might just steal his girl.” Kaminari said with a small chuckle before winking at the group. Mina burst into laughter while Kirishima just looked disappointed, but not surprised, at his friend’s antics.
“If you guys are going to do this,” Kirishima began, “at least present yourselves nicely, please? Dress well, have manners. And before any of you try to pressure me into it, no, I’m having no part in this competition. It’s not manly to invade people’s privacy. But… if you want to do it, I wont stop you. As long as I get to hear some of the blackmail you guys find. As long as it’s not too embarrassing!” He added.
The group nodded as their meeting disbanded.
After that, it was only a matter of time before chaos ensued in the Bakugou household.
The dorms were eerily silent when Bakugou returned from his evening run. None of the usual idiots were hanging around, waiting for his return to ask for him to cook some stupid dish he’d never heard of like they usually do.
He frowned at the cold, silent air and began taking his shoes off and settling in for the night. He grabbed a glass of water and made his way up the dorm steps to his own room.
Once he’d settled down, he could hear Kirishima pacing next door. He was muttering something, but the walls muffled the sound enough that he couldn’t make out the words.
It got annoying fast and he hit his fist against the wall, putting a stop to the muttering almost immediately.
Kirishima, on the other side of the wall, jumped and nearly dropped the pile of clothes he was holding when he heard a loud bang coming from the other side of the wall. He had been trying to find an outfit to wear to dinner, but his anxiety got the better of him and then the muttering started.
He couldn’t blame Bakugou for getting annoyed, and quickly found a nice white button-up shirt and some black denim pants to wear before settling down on his bed.
Left in silence, his mind was racing. Thoughts were running rampant and he could do little to silence them.
What if his parents don’t like me? Or think I’m weird? What if they think I’m not manly enough to be friends with their son?
He was grateful that the others would be joining him, though. Meeting someone’s parents, regardless of who they were, always felt oddly intimate. It’s an activity for couples to get closer with each other’s families.
And Bakugou wanted to introduce him to them?
No, no, this isn’t just about me. He invited the others too! You’re just overthinking this.
Kirishima has had feelings for the blonde practically since they met. His anger and private nature was alluring in a way he couldn’t describe, and he found himself always craving the little moments of soft attention the other gave him. Sure, others might see him as rude or impulsive, but once you really got to know Bakugou, he was just putting up a front. Kirishima could confidently say that Bakugou was one of the manliest people he knew.
Which is why the thought of meeting his parents had him going absolutely crazy. Kirishima hardly slept that night, tossing and turning his way through a rough eight hours of sleep.
Bakugou was not ready for this. The others would be arriving within the hour and his mother wouldn’t just shut up and settle down, no, she just had to pester him about every little thing.
“Katsuki! Set the table, now. As much as I’m looking forward to this, you’re the one who wanted friends over. Help out, you brat!”
He grumbled, pushing himself up from his spot on the couch and begrudgingly grabbing the pile of plates on the counter. As much as it seemed like he didn’t pay attention or care, Bakugou was more observant when it came to his friends than anyone could possibly know.
Which is why he needed tonight to go perfectly.
He knew the food would be great, why wouldn’t it be? He made it. He was a little nervous though. He’d tried making American style food, as he knew how much the group loved the foreign meals. He made sure to include a lot of meat for Kirishima, broccoli for Sero, because as much as Bakugou despised it, he knew it was his favorite, and he’d suffer through the disgusting vegetable to make the others happy, and a fruity desert for Mina and her sweet tooth. Which is how he’d ended up with maybe one of the weirdest meals he’d ever made: Hamburgers with a side of broccoli and Takoyaki and strawberry mochi for desert.
He was ready.
Or at least, he thought he was.
“Hey, Katsuki? Didn’t you say you were having three friends over? Who’s the extra plate for?”
Right. He had to deal with that.
“You’re telling me you invited over the boy you like and didn’t tell me?! What the hell, Katsuki! Well now I don’t have any time to prepare. You better be on your best behavior now you little gremlin, don’t embarrass me in front of my future son-in-law.”
“Shut the fuck up, hag!” He protested, a bright blush spreading across his features. “Besides, it’s not a big deal. Just treat him like the others and don’t. Fucking. Mention it. Promise?”
“Fine, fine. I promise. But I’m definitely showing him baby pictures.”
“Mom!”
Kirishima was not ready for this.
He looked fine, great even. His white button up was accented by a crimson vest, courtesy of Momo, and the black denim of his pants accented it all perfectly. He had opted to keep his hair down, though he put some of it into a small ponytail in the back to look more well-kept. He did have to borrow a pair of Iida’s shoes though, as he didn’t have any dress shoes that matched the occasion. He even put in small, black stud earrings to finish up the whole look.
He knew he looked good. And yet he was still obsessing over every little detail.
He couldn’t mess up tonight.
This had to go well.
After one last look in the mirror, he opened the door and was greeted by the rest of the Bakusquad sitting on the carpeted floor on their phones.
“Uh… guys?” The group’s eyes all snapped up to the red head, taking in his outfit.
“Woah! You look great dude. But we were waiting out here for ages, we got to get going or we’re going to be late!” Kaminari whined. Kirishima looked at the clock on his phone.
Shit! It’s already six. I took too long, we’re going to be late. I’m going to ruin tonight before I even get there. This is so not manly of me.
Kirishima’s thoughts were interrupted by Sero grabbing his arm and dragging him to their car.
The three of them, Kaminari, Sero and Kirishima, had piled up enough money from their collective jobs to buy a sort of community car for the Bakusquad that the group all took turns driving. It just so happened that it was Kaminari’s day to drive, which meant that they’d either get there in record time or die trying.
“Ready?” The group groaned as Kaminari took off far too fast and far too reckless to be considered legal, let alone safe.
Somehow, he didn’t crash, and the group arrived on the front step of the Bakugou’s apartment.
“I think I’m dreaming. Someone pinch me.” Sero let out a small yelp as Kaminari punched him in the arm, hard. “I said pinch, not punch!”
“I can’t believe this,” Kaminari said, ignoring the groans of pain from the other, “we’re standing in front of the house of the Katsuki Bakugou.”
“Don’t get too excited you guys. He’s only having us here because his parents made him. But, that wont stop us. Competition begins the second we open that door, and trust me, you’re all going down.”
“Doesn’t matter how we got here, free food is free food! And the blackmail we’re about the get will make it all worth it.” Kaminari practically yelled, his enthusiasm only making the others more excited.
Kirishima was lost in thought, ignoring the group’s antics.
“You good, Kiri?” Mina turned back to the red head who was anxiously biting at his nails.
“What?” He was snapped out of his train of thought, trying to figure out how to respond without letting the group on to his anxieties. “Yeah, yeah, totally good. Super excited!”
“You sure? I think somebody’s nervous.” Sero mocked, getting a small laugh out of Kaminari.
“No turning back now. You guys ready for the best night of our lives?” Mina said, smiling at the others. Sero and Kaminari nodded with excitement, and Kirishima did his best to grin weakly without throwing up.
He felt sick.
This was too much pressure.
Kirishima had thought this all through. He knew what he was going to say and do, going so far as to map it out on sticky notes which he was going to bring with him, but ultimately left in his room.
I can’t do this. I’m going to mess this up and they’re going to hate me. Bakugou is going to hate me and never want to talk to me again and I’ll never get the chance to tell him my feelings for him and I’ll have to watch him distance himself from everyone because I ruined tonight and all his friendships and-
“So, you must be Katsuki’s friends! Come on in!”
No turning back now.
