There was a party in Pandemonium, "Zombie" themed to be exact, and for the third year in a row.
Alec wasn’t in the mood to attend yet another year. He had a hunch who would win again, and Alec knew that losing to that man again would just get under his skin.
“Come on, Alec, you must come,” Simon tried to get his friend into the costume.
“No, I don't have to. Beside he'll be there too, and I know that he'll get first place like always. I’m no match for him, and you know it, Simon.” Alec would rather stay at home than see his nemesis again.
“Jace is going to be there, and I don’t want to go alone, and you're the best wingman, please?” Simon pleaded with his best friend.
Alec knew that Simon desperately wanted to get Jace to be his boyfriend, but Jace was the center of the attention, always surrounded by men and women, and it would be cruel to let Simon face that alone.
“Fine, but only this time.” Alec complied, adding, “I still hate that guy. It's always as if my costume isn't good enough to win, no matter how hard I try.”
“Magnus Bane, right?” Simon asked.
“Yes, he is always taking the first place and I have had it! No matter how much I work on it, it is just never good enough!” Alec ranted.
“I’m sure that you'll be fine, Alec, and I know from a secret source that they are going to add something exciting with partners this year, so there might be two people who can win the contest for best dressed zombies!” Simon informed him with the biggest brightest smile as he adjusted his eyeglasses.
Simon and Alec entered Pandemonium wearing their zombie costumes.
The host was calling out names of people to be partners, and as Alec looked to his left he realised that Magnus had been named his partner. Before he could even protest, he heard a click. He looked at his wrist and saw the handcuff. He was handcuffed together with Magnus, his rival.
Alec glared at Magnus, but Magnus for his part, only grinned at him.
“Now that everyone has a partner, before we start the contest with a dance, let’s raise a toast for more contests, friendship and events like this,” The host held up a drink that looked like a potion, an appropriate fit for the zombie costumes contest event.
Everyone held their potion high for the toast, looking at their partners.
“For the win,” Magnus smiled and brought his potion over to Alec, a smile on his face.
Alec looked at him, and finally held his potion up to Magnus’ and clicked glasses, as he repeated, “For the win,” and gave him a little smile.
“We can win this, Alec,” Magnus told him as they placed their potions back on the table.
Alec nodded.
Waltz was heard in the background.
“Oops, wrong music, now it’s fixed.” DJ called.
