Work Text:

You don’t know why you bothered coming to this stupid party. It would’ve been easier had it been just with your classmates, but of course Mina being the go-getter she is, she got along with everyone and that meant even people outside of UA. So when she dragged you along to a party that her “friend” was throwing - you didn’t exactly expect her to just wander off. Normally you could handle your own, but this was unfamiliar territory.

Deep breaths. It’s just a party.

You inhaled with the intent to calm your nerves, taking in the scene around you. All people mostly around your age it seemed like, that was a relief. Faintly you heard in and out of peoples’ conversations - half of which were in Spanish. The music in the air blared beautifully with a flare you couldn’t help but discreetly sway your hips to. It almost allowed you to loosen up…had you not felt a pair of eyes on you. From across the way you caught two dark pupils raking over your form in a predatory gaze, attached to a man who looked like he had more than just dancing on his mind.

A look that you did not like.

Instinctively your arms caged around your body, and you immediately stopped any movement you engaged in - suddenly feeling very exposed. Your body shrunk within itself and you silently wished Mina would happen to stumble upon you. You searched around the room to no avail. Your next move was to slowly back into the nearest wall and hang tight…until a pair of hands on your hips stopped you. Terrified the same hungry eyed brute had finally gotten his hands on you, you immediately moved to protest - but your words were stopping short at your tongue. Before you could pull away from the man, you were flipped, your hand being taken delicately in a much bigger palm. This palm was different, however,

“You look lost gatita,” came a playful, but familiar voice. You blinked a few times, the low lights of the party flashing briefly over his face,
“S-Sero?!”

He lent you a friendly grin, “Were you expecting someone else?”

That’s right, you’d almost forgotten Sero was Hispanic and pretty well known in and outside of UA...almost made sense for him to be here. Especially with him and Mina being close friends.
You shook your head slowly, gaze lowering, “N-No, I…” It was then Sero realized you were shaking and his smile faltered instantly. Brows furrowed in concern he dipped his head to catch your falling eyes, “What’s wrong…?”

You bit your lip, not wanting to trouble your friend over something so trivial. But your eyes flicked over to the man who stared you down earlier and Sero’s immediately followed. He narrowed his eyes at the guy who tried to look anywhere else but his direction. You heard Sero let out a quick “Tch” before curling a hand around the small of your back. Your body was gently pulled against his, Sero’s eyes briefly shooting the guy a warning glance before softening as he slid his eyes back to you. A soft smile, “No te preocupes, amor, he won’t bother you, not if I can help it.”

The song changed to some latin-pop number that immediately got the mass of people really dancing. You saw Sero’s eyes light up at the recognition of the song and before you knew it, he strategically placed his leg carefully between yours and held you close. “Focus on me and follow my lead,” he whispered close enough so only you could hear. You held onto his opposite bicep while his dominant hand was preoccupied with holding onto yours still. Keeping in tempo with the music, Sero pushed and pulled you so that you’d catch the rhythm with him. It took a moment to get it right (he was a natural), but you eventually got your hips and feet to cooperate. The seductive sway Sero put in his body guided you to wind your hips up against him and it instinctively made you bite your lip. You had no idea your cheeky tape-hero friend could be so…sexy. Almost like it showed on your face, Sero chuckled, eyes half-lidded and moving to put an arch in your back so he could gently dip you backwards. A gentle gasp left your lips, but as soon as you were dipped, you were brought back up, nose close to bumping his.

“Sero…” you squeaked, “Where’d you learn to dance like this?!”

He cocked an eyebrow, “You seriously can’t tell me you haven’t seen me dance back at the dorms at least once while I was cleaning.”

You remembered hearing salsa at early hours in the morning on the weekends, but you never really paid it any mind, nonetheless think it was one of your friends. The thought made you laugh, “You’re just full of surprises, huh, Sero?”

He beamed at that, “Gatita, you have no idea.”

The night went on this way, with Sero teaching you different dances, making you a plate of food (and eventually finding Mina chowing down on the arroz con pollo), and eventually all three of you kicking it as you headed back to the dorms. Mina quickly wished you both a goodnight, but not before apologizing for leaving you behind.

“Lucky for you Sero wasn’t far!” she laughed, but the glint in her eye let you know she sensed something else was afoot. You rolled your eyes “Next time don’t leave me by myself Mina, please.” Her cat-like grin appeared for a mere second before she turned toward her bedroom, “I wooon’t, promise~ Goodnight you two!~”

The both of you waved her off before finally finding yourselves alone. You lent Sero a shy smile, “So listen…I just…thank you, Sero”

He rubbed the back of his head, his trademark grin gracing his features, “Don’t mention it, I just wanted you to feel safe,” and in a flash his eyes darkened as the memory of the party hit him, “Besides…I didn’t like the way that guy looked at you.” The whisper in his voice sent a chill down your spine…he was serious. You slid your hand gently in his,

“Maybe next time…we go together?”

You didn’t miss the way his grin turned to a near smirk at your words. He lifted your hand to his lips, pressing a kiss into your knuckles. He shot you a coy look,

“Anytime you want, princesa, just say the word.”
