Chapter Text

Katsuki hated night patrols. Nothing ever happened during the night. No threats of villains, not even a small robbery that he could stop. What's worse was that he was assigned the patrol with fucking Deku, of all people.

Sometimes, Katsuki wondered if being a hero was the right decision. He was currently ranked the number #9 hero on the Billboard Charts, with his own agency he established with Deku and sidekicks that were pretty badass, but Katsuki would die rather than admit that out loud.

He huffed in annoyance, a cold puff of air coming out of his mouth while he tried his best to tune out Izuku's chattering about his latest case. When his attempts failed, Katsuki sped up to get ahead of the talking mess that was his patrol partner.

The small pebbles crunched underneath Katsuki's heavy boots as he walked forward, mentally cussing himself out for agreeing to take the night patrol with Deku.

"Pro heroes Dynamight and Deku, there's been a villain attack near your patrol route. Please reach the Musutafu Mall immediately!" A sound rang out of Katsuki's earpiece. It was a sidekick from their agency, Lizardy.

Setsuna joined Katsuki's and Izuku's agency as soon as they started up and had been working as their sidekick ever since. It was much against Katsuki's will but Izuku had his way of convincing people.

This was what Katsuki wanted. Adrenaline coursed through his veins at the news and his lips twitched into his signature grin.

"Roger! What's the hostage situation and how many villains can be seen?" Izuku replied back to Lizardy.

"The mall was closed, so only a few members of the staff were taken hostage. Only one villain has been spotted. Their quirk is undetermined. Be cautious."

One villain could be easy to take down, Katsuki thought. He would just go in, land a solid punch to their guts, hand over the villain to the police and be done with this nightmare of a night patrol.

He stretched his hands above his head to warm up and with a deep exhale, he was up in the sky with the help of his explosions.

The Musutafu Mall was only two blocks away from them, which is why Katsuki reached it in record time with Izuku right behind him.

"Kacchan, maybe we should enter the mall from the bac--" Katsuki cut him off to tell the greenette his "smart" (read: impulsive) plan.

"No, you listen here, you dipshit. I'll be going inside by breaking one of the windows and beat the living shit out of the villain and you're gonna stay here and take care of the hostages, you got it?!" Katsuki stated this as finality.

"I- I don't think that's a really good idea, Kacchan." Izuku stuttered.

If Katsuki wasn't in a rush he would have punched Izuku in the jaw but he had places to be.

"It is the best goddamn idea so just fucking follow it or don't!"

Izuku opened his mouth twice, finding the right words to say but deemed it useless and just nodded.

That was all the signal he needed and he blasted off. He heard Izuku inform his sidekick of the plan of action in the earpiece.

As Katsuki neared the window, he let out a huge explosion from his palms to accelerate and blasted right through it.

The impact was rougher than he imagined it would be, causing him dizziness and his vision to blur as he landed on his feet inside the first floor of the mall.

When Katsuki regained his senses, he was greeted by the sight of a villain, dressed in black clothing and a mask covering his face.

"Ah, Pro Hero Dynamight, what a pleasant surprise."

Katsuki scoffed at the casual behaviour from the villain.

"Surrender, you fucking asshole or get ready to get your ass beat."

The villain chuckled, he raised an arm as if getting ready to throw something at the blonde, but with the blink of an eye, his arm dropped back to his side.

"You don't know what my quirk is, do you?" The villain questioned, his head tilted slightly to the side as if pitying the hero.

Katsuki remained quiet, letting the silence answer for him.

The villain started walking towards him with confidence and Katsuki's palms popped tiny explosions as a threat, but the villain didn't stop. When he was just two steps away from the hero, he snorted:

"Well, now you do."

With a snap of the villain's fingers, two large metallic rods impaled his shoulders and the blonde fell to the ground, wheezing for air. The pain was indescribable, even worse than when All For One impaled him with blades coming out of his fingers during the war.

Katsuki screamed in pain, his vision was blurry by the second, black spots appearing with every blink. His breathing was laboured and getting difficult by the second.

The last sounds he heard were Izuku calling out to him and the sirens of police cars. He saw a mess of green curls crouching down next to him with a worried expression plastered on his face.

Then, the world went black.

beep beep beep

Katsuki was woken up by the sounds of the heart monitor.

He hissed in pain as he opened his eyes to be met by the bright white lights on the ceiling. Once his eyes slowly adjusted to the lit up room, he raised his head from the fluffy pillow to look at his surroundings.

He was in a hospital room.

Katsuki hated hospitals.

He made an effort to quickly sit up straight but the immense pain he felt in both his shoulders caused him to complete his ministrations slowly.

Once he was successful in doing so, he began removing the drips that were taped to his hands.

Katsuki didn't realise the door slid open, a sign of someone entering the room until the person cleared his throat for attention from the blonde.

"I wouldn't advise you to do that."

Katsuki's head snapped at the voice and he was met with a doctor. The first thing the hero noticed was dual coloured hair, one side red, the other a snowy white. A closer look at his facial features concluded that he also had different coloured eyes, one grey and one blue. Another prominent feature was a concerning burn mark that covered the left side of his face, that raised many questions inside the blonde's mind but it was best to not voice them.

"Who the fuck are you?" Katsuki very well knew what the answer was going to be but it was better than staying silent and creepily staring at the doctor.

The dual-haired man raised an eyebrow and tilted his head to the side in confusion. This miniscule action had Katsuki thinking the doctor was adorable. He never thought anything was adorable, not even fluffy cats! But here he was, contradicting himself.

"I'm your doctor?" Shouto replied while straightening his coat, as if silently saying Didn't you notice my coat or something?

"I fucking know that! I meant your name or whatever."

At that, Shouto walked closer to the hospital bed and picked up the clipboard that was resting on the side table.

"That's no way of talking to someone who just saved your life " He plainly said while his eyes were still fixated on the clipboard.

Katsuki was annoyed by this dual-haired bastard's straightforward behaviour. Did the doctor not know he was a hero?

"Hah? Don't tell me what to do!"

The doctor placed the clipboard back on the table and started patching up the IV needles back into Katsuki's elbow joints again, still not meeting the blonde's eyes.

The gentle touch of the doctor's fingers holding his arms made Katsuki's heart flip. This was a new feeling. He felt somewhat giddy. He never felt this type of way with someone before this.

"You were unconscious for two days. The rods that impaled you were successfully extracted but they were poisoned which was the main problem. The villain's quirk was enlarging small objects so he probably poisoned the rods before using them. It'd be best if you didn't take out these drips until they're finished again."

Katsuki could feel his anger slowly creep up. The doctor just ignored him completely. The blonde was not going to let him go that easily without giving the heterochromatic doctor a piece of his mind.

"Oi, do you know who you're talking to?"

The doctor, who was currently writing something down on the clipboard, froze. There was a few seconds of silence until he finally spoke up,

"I know who you are, Pro hero Dynamight." Katsuki's hero name was spat off of the doctor's tongue almost as if it was something offensive. "You being a Pro hero doesn't affect me. If that's a problem for you, i'll gladly assign another doctor to look after you."

With that, the doctor simply clicked his pen close and started walking towards the door.

"Please rest and there's a bell on the side table in case of emergencies."

The doctor left the room and the door clicked shut behind him.

In the silence of Katsuki's hospital room, he processed the whole conversation. He grew more curious about the doctor and the blonde would definitely figure out why he grew so cold at the mention of him being a hero.

Katsuki slowly dozed off to sleep, thinking about a certain dual-haired man.

The next time Katsuki woke, he was greeted by a very erratic Izuku that broke into a loud cry when he saw the blonde conscious.

"Kacchan! I thought you were dead!" The greenette spoke between sniffles.

"Well I'm fucking alive, aren't I? Calm the fuck down!"

"You were really critically injured, Kacchan. If it weren't for Shouto-kun, I don't know what would have happened!"

Katsuki's ears perked up at the name.

"Who's 'Shouto-kun'?"

Izuku wiped his teary eyes with the back of his hand, "He was your doctor, you know, the one with red and white hair?"

Ahh, it felt so good to finally put a name to that pretty face, Katsuki thought and he smirked victoriously.

"Shouto-kun you say?" Katsuki replied with amusement.

Izuku, who was finally done crying, nodded with a smile, "Mhm, Shouto Todoroki. He's the son of Endeavor, I met him when we had our internships during our school days, you had your work study with Mirko."

Katsuki's shit eating grin turned into a frown almost immediately.

Shouto Todoroki was Endeavor's son?

Having read Katsuki's confused expression, Izuku continued, "He had a rough childhood. Let's just say, Endeavor was really different behind closed doors."

Katsuki's head snapped to look at Izuku.

"It's not my place to say, Kacchan, don't look at me like that."

Katsuki understood that so he didn't press further, he would just have to find out from Shouto himself, somehow.

Shouto entered the room just a few minutes after Katsuki's conversation with Izuku.

Izuku got up from his chair to bow down to Shouto as a way of saying hello and the doctor nodded back in acknowledgement.

"Shouto-kun! Thank you for taking care of Kac-, erm Katsuki, I know he can be a little difficult to deal with."

"Oi, watch it nerd." Katsuki bit back.

A subtle, soft smile made its way to Shouto's face and Katsuki's breath hitched.

Shouto was beautiful.

"Trust me, I know." Shouto muttered under his breath.

Katsuki shot a glare at both of the men present in his room in return.

"Well, I'll be leaving now, night patrol and all." Izuku said and with a quick bow, he was out the door leaving behind just Shouto and him, alone in his room.

"Shouto, huh?" Katsuki broke the silence.

"You know my name, congratulations." Shouto replied with a sigh. Katsuki wondered why the man just refused to make eye contact with him.

"I think we got off on a bad start here." Katsuki tried to sound as cool as he possibly could.

"You mean you being an asshole?"

Katsuki frowned.

"Fuckin- look, i'm. I'm sorry okay? Let me make it up to you."

Shouto finally made eye contact with Katsuki and the blonde felt like he was just drowning in those heterochromatic eyes.

"You don't need to make it up to me, Dynamight, I'm very well aware of heroes like you."

Shouto was getting on Katsuki's nerves. He could argue back but he had to stay calm.

"Call me an asshole all you want, but don't even for a second compare me with shitty fucking heroes, I'm not like them."

"You'll be discharged tomorrow, if there's an emergency, you know where the bell is." Shouto said while walking towards the door.

"You didn't answer." Katsuki stated, trying his best to keep his cool.

Shouto stopped in his tracks and turned just slightly.

"Answer what?"

Katsuki crossed his arms over his chest, flexing his biceps muscles just a bit.

"How should I make it up to you?"

Shouto stared into Katsuki's red eyes, calculatingly.

"Not interested." Was all Shouto said before exiting the room, leaving Katsuki dumbfounded in the confines of his room.

Katsuki had never been rejected by anyone before. Shouto's rejection made his ego crumble down to ashes.

However, this rejection strengthened his resolve all the more. That's the most admirable quality Katsuki thought he had, if he wanted something, he got it.

He sure as hell won't half ass anything now, not with Shouto.
