Futuristic Fantasy

Summary:

In which we are in a futuristic world and Sunoo is a mare android learning about life. Or what you can call life when you sort of get kidnapped by space pirates.

Notes:

First of all I want to say that this very much will work like my other fic Interesting Friends. Which means that I will only update occasionally and chapters are like snippets of this little world I created.

Second, this fic unlike my other one is not allowed to be used as a prompt. Please respect that. Thank you.

I hope you enjoy my random writings of this fictional world.

Chapter 1: A Child (That Isn't Quite A Child)

Chapter Text

It starts with the, quote, birth of A.I. Model S-0320. Model S-0320 was the last and first of its type. For its creator would pass away briefly after the completion of its creation. When Model S-0320 was finally fully activated it found itself alone in a now-abandoned laboratory. It scanned around the laboratory before a hologram appeared.

The sudden projection of the hologram took Model S-0320 by surprise. The hologram was of an older man sitting down at a desk a few steps away. The hologram faced forward as if looking at Model S-0320. Model S-0320 looked onward to the hologram with curiosity.

"Hello," the hologram greeted. "A.I. Model S-0320. If this hologram appears before you then it means I, sadly, passed away before your full activation."

Model S-0320 walks closer to the hologram.

"I am Dr. Kim. I first studied biology and biomechanics," the hologram continued. "Later in life, I also studied robotics and technology. I joined a team of scientists that wanted to create artificial intelligence and robots to innovate our ever-changing world. We created a variety of robots but artificial intelligence was much harder to create. At least one that didn't then become destructive."

The holographic man moved his hand as if to touch something next to them. Then other projections appeared. These projections moved around and were all different from one another.

"This planet has come to destroy itself through the creation of artificial intelligences," the hologram started up again. "That's why the team I was a part of wanted to make an artificial intelligence that wouldn't become destructive. We looked through the notes of the creators of previous artificial intelligences."

The holographic man paused. They moved themselves a bit and seemed to look right at Model S-0320.

He began again, "Despite artificial intelligence being smarter than the average humans, they didn't comprehend emotion. How could they really? They didn't have a growing up process or attachment to another being. So we took that in mind while creating you. However, the leader of the country we lived in banned the creation of such entities."

One of the small projections enlarged. It showed another older man dressed in nice clothes. He seemed to be giving a speech.

"Even so the team and I went underground to create you. As we completed you we were ratted out by someone. I was the only one that managed to escape alive and with me I took your coding. Not all of it however, but a great part of it."

The previous projection minimized and another one enlarged. This one showed a woman who was also talking. Then it changed to people laying in rows of beds with things attached to them. The holographic man also looked at the projection.

"A great plague came, then. It took my wife pretty early on. That left only me and my son. I couldn't mourn properly over my wife. So I dedicated myself to complete your coding. But I struggled to find a way to make you understand emotion and human attachment," the holographic man continued. He paused and sighed out. "Then my son fell ill. It was the plague too. It took him slower compared to my wife. Nearing his last days, he gave me a solution to my problem. He offered his conscious. To infuse your coding and his conscious. And I did so. He passed away before I could upload all his conscious. But what I was able to upload, worked."

Another pause. The projections disappeared and only the holographic man remained. Model S-0320 looked towards them again.

"Your coding was complete. It was then that I chose to build you're body. For fifteen years, I worked to create your body. At first the idea for the artificial intelligence was for it to be an interface. But I chose to make you a body. I gather the best materials I could and I tried various combinations of things before finally coming with the perfect creation, Model S-0320," with the ending sentence the holographic man smiles.

"I wish I can see you. But I might not be able to. Regardless, I want to let you know something A.I. Model S-0320. You are not just a machine. The sacrifices that were made to bring you to life, have made greater than a machine. In this planet you are the first and last of your kind. I have come to view you as my child. And in a way you would be. But in many you are also not."

Model S-0320 walked closer to the hologram. Something within stirred. What it was Model S-0320 did not know.

"Even so, I want you to carry my son's name, Kim Sunoo."

When the sound of the name was processed by Model S-0320 something attractived. It was some type of rush that made Model S-0320 more self-aware. That its body felt sensations, that felt both familiar and unknown. It brought series of information through its wiring and information processors. It was as if that name brought Model S-0320 completely to life.

"Take his name, A.I. Model S-0320. But live as yourself."

There was a smile on the holographic man's face and then he was gone. Model S-0320 moved all the way to the desk where the holographic man had been. Suddenly there was a loud clicking sound and the sound of gears turning. Model S-0320 looked towards where the sound came from. There it noticed that a door had opened. Model S-0320 looked back at the desk. There it noticed an envelope that read take me. Model S-0320 grabbed the envelope and walked to the door.

And this is, where we really begin.
