Work Text:
Hitoshi was worried. He nervously glanced at the clock for the umpteenth time that hour. You were an hour late to coming back home after your hero work and Hitoshi was already thinking of the worst possible outcome. Hero work was dangerous, and despite himself Hitoshi always found worrying about you. Often overthinking whenever you were late to come back home, or whenever you didn't answer the phone.
He tapped his foot against the floor as he fidgeted with his hands, staring at the front door expectantly. Hitoshi glanced back at the clock on the wall again, time seemed to be going painfully slow and the fact that you weren't answering your calls did not help at all.
He tapped your contact on his phone, pressing 'call' for the what seemed to be the hundredth time that day. Hitoshi held the phone to his ear, hearing it ring multiple times until it went to voicemail again. He hung up as soon as the message started to play. He'd heard the pre-recorded voicemail message so much he was sure he'd never forget it.
He sighed, shifting his gaze back to the closed door. He waited and waited for the door to open, for you to come walking in, assuring him that you were safe and okay but nothing happened. He dialled your number again, only for it to be go to voicemail once more.
Tears stung his eyes as his mind raced. What if you were in danger? What if you got kidnapped? Or worse, what if you were-
Hitoshi paused as he heard the jingling of keys right outside the front door. His head shot up so fast it was a miracle he didn't get a whiplash. The door slowly creaked open to reveal your approaching figure and Hitoshi felt a wave of immense relief wash over him as the sound of your voice confirmed that you were back home.
Hitoshi stood up and just as the front door closed, he tackled you into a hug. You yelped in surprise as a pair of arms wrapped around you, holding onto you for dear life.
Hitoshi buried his face into the crook of your neck as he cursed in relief, feeling his worries slowly melt away. You were home, you were okay, you were safe. Nothing else mattered at that moment for the purple haired boy, only that you were alive and the subtle thumping of your heartbeat was evidence of that. The warmth of your body against his skin was evidence of that. Your figure in his arms as you worriedly hugged him back was evidence of that.
"Hitoshi?" You felt the boy shake in your arms as he sniffled. Now it was your turn to be worried.
"I.. don't scare me like that again," he muttered, his voice muffled as he cried tears of relief. You frowned, feeling guilty for making him worry that much. "I was so worried."
"I'm sorry.. my phone died and I had to finish up some paperwork," you apologised, hugging him tighter as you whispered soothing words of reassurance to your partner. Hero work was dangerous and Hitoshi swears that one of these days you were going to give him a heart attack.
"It's okay, I'm just glad you're safe," Hitoshi assured, pulling away to wipe his teary lilac eyes as he stared into your tired e/c ones.
"How about I go change and then we can watch a movie and cuddle, okay?" You suggested as you plopped your bag on the floor, slipping your shoes off. Hitoshi nodded, giving you a weak smile as you headed to your shared bedroom to change into more comfortable clothes.
Later that night, you both fell asleep on the living room couch, basking in each other's warmth under the blankets. The movie long over and all your worries forgotten as you both slept peacefully in each other's arms.
He was your happiness, your home and his constant reminders made sure you knew that you were his happiness too.
You were safe in Hitoshi's arms.
You were home.
