He's A Menace

Summary:

Rafael's just trying to get to work on time. Sonny is just trying to be helpful.

Notes:

Never really planned to write fluff, but this prompt came up one time in an online generator and it just seemed perfect for Barisi.

Plus it was a good way to try to break through some writers block for my longer, angstier story. Let me know what you think :)

Work Text:

Rafael really preferred not to be in a hurry in the morning. The only times he was less than punctual were when he was very intentionally making a defense attorney wait or arriving fashionably late to a gala. Quickly shoving the papers that were spread out on the table into his briefcase and grabbing his jacket, he felt a rush of frustration as he headed toward the door.

“Forgetting something Counselor?” What a menace. He turned around to see the absolutely infuriatingly distracting form of Sonny Carisi, leaning against the wall casually. After pulling a double shift yesterday, he was free to take his time and head into the precinct later.

He was toweling off his hair just in his boxers, clearly just having finished his shower. Or rather finishing the shower Rafael started, then Sonny interrupted, insisting he would “help” in that voice, accent extra thick, like it usually was first thing in the morning, one of the many things Rafael had discovered over the past few months. He did not in fact “help”. At least not in terms of getting showered. What an absolute menace.

The way he was standing there, smiling, well aware that he was the sole cause Rafael running late was maddening. Between the incredibly inefficient shower this morning and all the late night activity last night that he somehow had the energy to initiate despite just coming off of a long stakeout, he was solely to blame. Yet there he was relaxed, in no hurry, and still looking for more. He’s a goddamn relentless, gorgeous, charming, menace.

So Rafael dropped his briefcase and marched over, grabbing Sonny by the back of his neck and pulling him down to slam their lips together. But despite the harsh start, fueled by Rafael wanting to lay down the law, he quickly felt Sonny smiling into the kiss and couldn’t help but follow suit. They pulled apart and while Rafael, didn’t want to make a habit of having to rush to get to work, he could get used to the rest o it.

“Better Sonny?” he made sure to keep enough sarcasm in his tone so as not to reveal his fondness.

“Oh, definitely!” Sonny’s had gone from slightly smiling to positively beaming, but there was also a smugness to it, “But I was just talking about your wallet.” He held up the familiar leather wallet with a full on shit-eating grin.

Rafael felt heat rising to his face as he snatched the object and did an abrupt heel turn making a beeline for the door. He couldn’t move fast enough to avoid the delighted laugh from the man behind him.

“Sorry Rafi! I was just trying to help!” Of course, because he had been so much 'help' all morning. “Have a good day at work Counselor!” he shouted as Rafael hurried out the door. They were still at the trading off nights and weekends at each others apartments stage, fooling around like overeager teens. Neither of them dared use the word love yet, but even amid his smug laughter, Sonny Carisi was very bad at hiding his fondness.

Stepping into the elevator and finally pocketing the troublesome wallet, Rafael felt himself smiling ever so slightly as he pictured Sonny still chuckling and damp and completely overjoyed about what had just happened, and realized maybe he himself wasn’t so good at hiding it either. What a menace.
