It had been a few days now since they escaped from the clutches of Emperor Belos and Eda, Lilith and Luz were still recovering, both mentally and physically.
Luz still had bruises from her fight with the masked man and both Eda and Lilith were coping with their lack of -or weakened- magic.
It had been awkward when Luz had walked into the kitchen and screamed because of Lilith's presence.
Eda had barged in the room, her staff ready to beat the soul out of the threat but had stopped when she noticed it was her sister.
Lilith, occupied at preparing lunch, flinched at the memory. It wasn't so much as the scream as the anger behind the teen's eyes that had shocked her. She didn't know that this sweet, always smiling human could show so much hatred.
It had lasted just a few seconds but it had shook her to the core.
The lunch was a quiet thing for once, Luz sitting near her mentor, her glaring eyes all on Lilith. Neither sister said anything, knowing full well Luz's distrust was well earned.
"Hey Luz. Why don't you go see your friends? You need to tell them you're alright," proposed Eda, once the lunch was over.
Luz looked at her briefly before looking at the back of Lilith, who was busy cleaning the dishes.
Eda sighed softly and gently squeezed her apprentice's shoulder.
"Don't worry. I may not have my magic anymore but I got Owlbert, King and Hooty."
The witch in training hesitated before smiling suddenly, "Wait here."
She dashed out of the kitchen and up the stairs. Opening her bag, she grabbed a handful of glyphed papers before running back down to her mentor.
"Here. Take those."
Eda was handed the papers.
"Just in case…" muttered the teen, glaring at Lilith's back.
It was low enough to pass to a whisper but loud enough the raven witch could hear it. The wince was barely noticeable
"See ya later!" exclaimed then Luz before rushing out.
"Hoot bye Luz," said the owlish door.
There was a long silence during which Lilith kept cleaning the few dishes left. Eda pocketed the glyphes given by her apprentice.
"She's never going to trust me, is she?" asked the oldest sister, her back still at her sister.
"Can you blame her?" said Eda with an uncaring tone.
She too had a hard time around her sister. True, she took half of her curse but it just made half up for cursing her in the first place. In the Owl Lady's book, her sister had a lot to answer for.
"Of course not, but...I thought...that-" tried Lilith
"That by sharing my curse and helping rescue me you'd be all forgiven? Get real Lily." sneered Eda.
Eda's tone had gone cold and almost growl-ish.
"You cursed me, you kept it quiet for decades, decades ! And for those decades, you kept hunting me down to force me into joining that tyrant's coven," counted Eda.
Each time, Lilith flinched, her heart becoming heavier and heavier.
"I mean, just for that, I'm pretty pissed but I could forgive you in time," Eda shrugged.
The ex coven leader turned her head so fast to look at her sister, the youngest Clawthorne was almost sure it would come off. Luckily, she was done with the dishes and nothing was broken.
"Forgive me? How can you forgive me? After all you just said I've done?"
Eda sighed, "You're still my sister Lily. A bitch of a sister but my sister nonetheless. And the fact you took half my curse at least proves you want to earn my forgiveness."
"O-of course I-" tried Lilith.
"BUT!!" Eda suddenly shooted.
And the scream barely covered the sound of the '30 and flirty' mug being crushed in her hand. The brunette witch shut her mouth close, her eyes wide.
"You hurt Luz."
Lilith winced.
"And that," snarled Eda, a raging fire in her eyes, "Is something I will not forgive."
A lone tear ran down the brunette's cheek.
The owl lady walked over her sister, who walked backward, away from the sink until she hit a wall.
"She's so much more than my apprentice to me. She's like my daughter. Titan! I've been taking care of her so much, she basically is my daughter.” Eda’s face was so close to Lilith’s the brunette could see a fire in her sister’s eyes, “So I'll make it so clear even the stupidest demon on the Isles would get it. I will never trust you with Luz."
More tears ran down Lilith's face.
"You will never be alone with her. You will not start a conversation with her, unless she starts it. You will not pry into her life."
With each sentence, Lilith simply nodded, accepting everything her sister said.
"And finally, until Luz forgives you, you will not have my forgiveness."
After that, Eda left her sister alone and went to her room, stopping by the fridge to grab a block of apple blood.
Once she had left, Lilith slowly slided down the wall she had been using as support and fell on her knees.
She pushed her hands on her face and cried, knowing everything Eda said was deserved.
Yet, it hurt so much. So damn much...
