Work Text:

It was rainy. At first, Tally thought that maybe someone was practicing weather work and it had gone wrong, but after briefly checking the perimeter, she concluded that it wasn't the case. It was just a rainy day.

And she wanted to just let go in it.

And so she did. The girl smiled, looking up and letting the rain wash her face and her body from all the worries of her day. Being captain was new to her and she was still adjusting to the added responsibilities but overall she was happy. Standing there, in the rain, she felt giddiness coursing through her veins.

Tally had always loved how the weather could just change. She didn't have a preference between the sunny days and days like these ones because for her, all of them had their unique thing. They were all special for what they made her feel, and it was always different. And today she just wanted to enjoy the feeling of the ice cold rain cascading over her whole body.

But later that day, it hit her that maybe standing in the middle of a storm for half an hour had been a bad idea.

An horrible idea, Abigail had said the next day, after Tally had a coughing fit.

It had started after her bath. She sat on her bed, her head pounding. At first she just shrugged it as exhaustion from her day but when she finally got into bed, she understood what had happened. Her body was tired and so it was understandable that dancing and jumping in the rain was gonna leave her sick and wanting to die the next day, but the redhead hadn't thought about that before putting herself in that situation.

Now, after Abigail had barged into her bedroom to wake her up, immediately understanding that her sister wasn't feeling very good and leaving her after being summoned by Anacostia, Tally laid in bed, trying to get through a streak of sneezes as she heard the door of her room being opened again. Looking up, she was greeted with the sight of her girlfriend carrying a tray of food, a concerned look painting her features.

Breathing slowly, she finally calmed down from her sneezing and gave the woman in front of her a tiny smile and moved a little, giving the general some space to sit.

"Hey." the redhead said, tilting her head to the side.

"Hey? Tally, why didn't you tell me you were sick? You could've reached for me through our link" Sarah sighed, putting the tray in front of the sick woman "here, eat something."

They had talked about the connection thing several times throughout their 2 years together and the agreement was to train to dampen it. Sarah didn't want Tally suffering any injury after the centipedes incident and Tally needed her sleeping schedule to go back to normal, so they learned to only use it on emergencies.

"But I'm fine, Sarah" Tally reached for the general's hand, their fingers lacing together "it's just a cold, it'll go away soon." she smiled, trying to get her point across.

"It's not just a cold" the older witch stressed "you couldn't even get up to start your day and the first thing I saw when I entered your room was you fighting against the biggest sneezing fit I have ever seen."

"Now you're being dramatic, darling" Tally tried to hide her smirk "you can't tell me that over 300 years, you haven't seen a bigger fit than the one I just had. It wasn't even that bad."

"I'm not gonna discuss how many sneezing fits I have seen in my life" Sarah's expression softened a little, but concern was still written all over her face, and so she touched Tally's forehead with the back of her free hand "please eat and drink some water, you have a fever."

"I'm here to serve, general" Tally said playfully, receiving a look from her girlfriend "you can laugh Sarah, I really am okay." she tilted her head again, her dimple making itself visible.

"I will only believe that after you eat something" she insisted, pushing the tray in Tally's direction "I was really worried when Bellweather told me how you were."

"Okay, I'll eat." the younger witch grabbed a sandwich, bitting into it and washing it down  with water.

"Good. Now, will you explain to me what you were doing in the middle of the storm yesterday?"

"Oh, you know, just living a little" Tally answered, a smirk dancing on her lips "you should do it more often, general."

That made the older witch laugh, music to Tally's ears, while looking at the woman in front of her with wonder, still the same look she gave her years ago in that infirmary, right after the redhead got unbididdied.

"You're something else, Tally Craven." Sarah finally smiled fully, her hand squeezing Tally's.

"I would kiss you now, but I'd get the general of the United States sick." the younger witch joked, leaning in regardless of her words.

"Wouldn't that be just the inconvenience, darling?" Sarah smirked, closing the gap between them.

"Yeah" Tally giggled and opened her eyes again, looking directly into those blue orbs, drowning in them everytime she did "yeah it would."
