Monday
“What the…’ Her car’s hood suddenly started smoking. She quickly parked it to the side and turned it off. Getting out of her car, she knew there was no way she would be able to make it to work on time. She was going to have to call for a tow to bring it to the auto shop.
“Mondays…” she had to wait for around 15 minutes before the truck showed up. Her boss was going to chew her head off.
On her way home, some toddler puked his entire lunch and snack all over while they sat together on the bus. She had to do the 5-minute walk from the bus stop to her apartment smelling horrible and had yellow marks from the bottom of her shirt to her pants.
“God damn it. Just what I needed, smelling like vomit and having to do even more laundry.” She ranted to herself as she tried to open the door to her apartment.
Tuesday
She forgot to pack some lunch. She would have bought some from a nearby store or the company canteen but then she wouldn’t have enough money for the bus fare. She decided to starve for a bit, better than walking home.
In the afternoon her work computer somehow got a virus that deleted all her files that contained her research. She was about to throw a fit until her assistant, Moblit, told her that he had backed her files into the cloud.
Savior.
“Where did the virus come from anyway?”
Moblit started shifting uncomfortably on his spot, ”Well one of the interns had downloaded something off the net without checking and it seemed to have infected your computer since he used it.”
She wanted to strangle something.
Wednesday
She got a call from the auto shop telling her the total bill it would take to fix her car.
9,000 dollars.
“God damn it.” She started cursing everything. That was gonna take a huge chunk of her savings. She was going to use some of it to buy her boyfriend, Levi, a new tea set with some exotic tea from India for their upcoming anniversary. Guess that’ll have to wait a few more months.
“Maybe I could get it for his birthday? Yeah, that’d be enough time to get some of the cash in again.”
The rest of the money was supposed to be for her to pay for some of her father’s maintenance medication.
How could this week get any worse? She prayed to whatever deity out there that it would be the end of the series of unfortunate events for a long time.
Thursday
Of course, that wasn’t the case.
One of her colleagues had taken an emergency leave for two weeks, leaving her to pick up the remainder of his work. As if she wasn’t already overworked. She’ll have to do some overtime next week to keep up with the deadlines.
“His parents were in a car accident and he has to watch over their recovery,” Keiji explained to her.
Hange sighed. She understood that it was important, she held no grudge against her colleague but the timing was the worst one.
“Hange-san! Levi is calling.” Moblit calls out from the other room.
“Thank you, Keiji. Go and take your lunch before we proceed with the paperwork. It’s gonna be a long day.” Keiji nodded and headed down to the cafeteria where the others were most likely already at. She made her way to Moblit and grabbed her phone.
“Hey, Levi! To what do I owe this pleasure? Need anything?”
“Do I need a reason to call you shitty glasses? What if I just wanted to check up on you since you’ve been having a difficult week?”
“Awww, just say you miss me, Levi!” Levi kept her company for lunch, listening to her rant about her awful week.
Friday
Two of her test mice, Sawney and Bean, died. She was at her wit’s end. She was nowhere near finished with the tests she was conducting on them.
“Hange-san… please calm down. We still have some time before the deadline” Nifa, one of her team members said trying to console her.
“Sawneyy… Beaannn” With the death of her experiments she was going to have to redo everything, which meant even more over time.
“Don’t worry, Hange-san. We’re here for you! Keiji and I will get the new mice and start on the drugs.” Goggles offered up.
“Go home and use the weekend to rest, Hange-san. We’ll take care of everything here. Go spend some time with Levi. I’m sure he would want that.” Nifa said.
“What a week.” Hange had stripped out of her clothes, leaving her in her underwear, and collapsed on the bed. She was about to fall asleep when she heard her phone ring. Taking it out of her bag, she sees a message from Levi.
Shorty <3: I heard what happened to Sawney and Bean, are you okay?
God, he was the sweetest. She felt a little bit guilty since she kind of neglected him the past week with the unfortunate events happening left and right.
Four-eyes: Yeah it’s fine. I’m gonna have to do some overtime to catch up with everything. This week was pretty exhausting and I can already feel next will be worse.
She waited on her bed for the text but 30 minutes had passed and Levi had yet to reply. Was he mad at her? She kinda neglected him this week and will most likely not have time for him for next week as well. Was she a bad partner? Levi would always make time for her, maybe she should do the same?
Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the doorbell ringing through her small apartment. She slowly got up and grabbed the first shirt and shorts she could reach from the closet and hastily put them on and made her way to the door. Imagine her surprise when she sees Levi with a few eco bags from the grocery and a duffel bag on his shoulder.
“I got you some dinner because knowing you, you would just skip it. I also got you some of your favorite snacks like Lays and Doritos and some cookie dough ice cream.” Her mouth was wide open and probably by the floor.
“Are you gonna let me in or not? And close your mouth, you’ll catch flies.”
“What’s all this for?” She had finally found her voice. He raised his eyebrow and gave her an incredulous look.
“Don’t be stupid, four eyes. You had a bad week and I’m treating you and staying over. Is that so hard? It’s what a good boyfriend would do.”
“You’re not mad at me?”
“Why would I be mad at you? For not spending some time with me? You had a bad week, I understand why you were busy. Now, are you going to-” She cut him off with a bear hug and dragged him into the apartment.
“Oh short stack, you’re the sweetest and kindest person I know.”
“Tch. Don’t go saying that everywhere you go.” He wrapped his hands around her waist and gave her a small kiss on her cheek. “Now go and get comfortable while I transfer the food and place the ice cream in the fridge. Play a movie if you want.”
Hange squealed like a little girl and gave him one last kiss right on his lips, “Love you, shorty.”
“Yeah, yeah same here, now go!” He gently pushed her into the direction of her bedroom.
5 minutes later, Levi comes into the bedroom with a tray for dinner which he sets down on the bed.
“Dinner in bed? My, what a lucky gal I am to have such a sweet lover.” She wrapped her arms around his neck, careful not to spill anything from the tray.
Levi’s only response was to give her a forehead kiss. “Cuddle later, I’m feeding you right now.”
Hange gave him one last kiss before behaving herself; the fun could come later. It might have been a bad week but Hange’s sure that with Levi, it wouldn’t end on such a bad note.
