Work Text:
Answer is 3247 words through his third incident report of the day when he hears the commotion outside. Such a phenomenon wouldn’t normally bother him, but he’s been on edge lately; an ordinary consequence of your partners travelling halfway across the world to fight what may as well be a god. Well. He supposes it must be ordinary. The situation doesn’t occur enough for any of this to be truly ordinary . Honestly, he’s just glad they weren’t directly on-site with that thing - the car chase was anxiety-inducing enough. He can now say from experience: it’s not fun to pick up what you’d expected to be a business call only to find out your boss is dangling from a cliff by one arm. Not to mention his newest colleague lying catatonic on the side of the road after an all-too-close encounter with the supernatural.
While he is ruminating on how strange all this has been, Chipp bursts into the tent. He's flushed and panting slightly - did he run all the way here? Oh, no, on second thoughts Anji clearly flew them both. His hair is windswept in that way that only Zessen can manage. It looks very dashing on him, the effect of which is somewhat diminished by the sheer level of excitement he’s currently radiating. He’s practically vibrating in place, grinning wildly. “ANSWER!!!” The business ninja slowly looks up from his work. “Does this have anything to do with the disturbance outside?” Chipp completely ignores the question, bounding over to him and pulling him up and out of his chair. “Come on come on come on you have to see this it's so cool!!! Answer this is one of the top three best things that’ve ever happened to me you have to come outside right now COME ON LET’S GO!!!” “Alright, alright,” Answer acquiesces gently, not resisting as he’s tugged along. “Let’s see… whatever this is.”
As it turns out, Chipp was probably not overemphasising the gravity of the situation. As he exits the tent, blinking into the sudden sunlight, he spots what looks to be a… frankly unreasonably large samurai ? He stands next to Anji, looking supremely awkward and out of place. For his part, Anji is grinning just as widely as Chipp - who has finished pulling him along and is now looking expectantly at him, shifting back and forth on his heels with nervous energy. “Erm,” Answer begins, very eloquently, “hello.” The samurai looks at him, and seems a little lost for words. Answer comes to a possible conclusion. Best to get this out of the way. He meets the samurai’s gaze with an apologetic look. “Did they… kidnap you?”
The samurai sighs heavily, and gives Answer the familiar look of a man who has done entirely too much today. “Worse… They have befriended me.”
