Summary
All that remains is silence. A stifling thing, sucking out all hope in the air, feeding into the heavy feeling in his chest and the whispers of the voices around him.
In spite of that, Silent Salt takes a deep breath, settling his dough and his soul, and marches on—if only for the slightest hope of finding light at the end of the tunnel.

Summary
After the end of their adventure, Torse had a duty to stay behind and help rebuild Zern to its former glory while Maxwell needed to return to Gath. Max swore to return once Comfrey had managed to find a way to control what time they could return to, but there was no telling how long that would take. Or if it was even possible. The risk of being sent to the far past or future was too great to return unless it was certain. There wasn't much Maxwell could do when the weeks apart stretched into months and, soon enough, years.

It starts—as most things on the Zephyr do—as a drunken bit.
“Gotch.” Van says solemnly. Her flesh hand shoots out to grip his shoulder tightly. Her eyes burn into his skull. “I’m gonna be your dad.”
Maxwell blinks. “What?”
“Your father is an absolute arse, and if he doesn’t want you, I call dibs. I’m your new da.”
Or: Longspot Gotch sucks. Van, ever the problem-solver, steps up.
