Chapter Text

The air seemed heavy. Not everyone could sense it but to a certain few it was a feeling in the back of their head. An unidentifiable thing that is brushed off as nothing when noticed. To some it was just a normal day, a variation of the same nine to five work day. To others it became a crucial moment in time. A day that would change everything in the future.

Sirens echoed in the city. The sounds bounced between buildings that made only a few look up in curiosity. It was a common noise to hear during the day. Villain attacks were normal in this day and age. The sounds of faint destruction barely made anyone wink an eye. While the sounds typically mean something bad is happening, a villain attack, hearing them did evoke a feeling of excitement in a certain few. Chaos only brought heroes to the scene.

No one really did know what hero was going to be there but it didn’t matter. Anything to see some action from their idols.

-

At the scene a few miles away, the ground was covered in glass and rubble. Carnage littered the area and the smell of burnt rubber flooded everyone’s senses.

Dust from the wreckage rose in big clouds off the ground and smoke escaped into the sky. With what little onlookers could see it made them gasp in something of a horrified shock. The ground was torn to shreds and the buildings surrounding the place looked ready to come crumbling down.

Police were holding people off from getting closer as many threats of danger were still present. The battle that went on had come to a disappointing end. The Pros fighting came out injured and the villain had somehow escaped. For the many people watching from a distance it was hard to make out what was going on with all the dust and smoke in the air.

As the fight came to a halt with a devastating end. Sirens and yelling overwhelmed many ears. The whole situation was a catastrophe. Heroes and police tried to organize themselves within all the chaos. The uninjured Heroes who came out unscathed were now sent back in the wreckage for rescue. Bringing the injured to the safe zone and keeping them from harm.
Paramedics ran around, quick on their feet to help as many people as possible. Trying to save as many lives as they could.

Among the carnage were cars strung all around the area. They were dented and some were even flipped upside down. The fronts and backs were smashed in making almost all the airbags set off upon impact. Doors were hanging by a thread while some of them ripped off.

Panicked voices yelled and checked for survivors. Stretchers were brought and medics filtered from car to car. As they moved on, the sight of red mixed with purple caught one of the heroes' attention.

Sitting in one of the driver’s seats was a woman with long violet hair, face down on the airbag with her hands on the wheel. If it weren’t for the blood mixed in her hair it would almost look like she was sleeping after a long day of work.

The hero's voice caught in their throat for a moment before they shook out of it and moved forward towards the woman. Right when they were about to check for a pulse, movement in the back seat caught their attention.

Sitting in the back seat was a child.

Widening their eyes they called out for the medics immediately. Hastily checking if the woman was okay they held back emotion.

No pulse.

Moving back to where the child was, the hero sighed in relief when they felt the faint feeling of blood pumping. While the child was definitely injured the hero couldn’t tell to what extent. Carefully unbuckling them, the hero picked them up and got them out of the car with little effort. Rushing over to the safe zone with heavy breath and steady feet.

The noise picked up almost to an unsettling amount. Police try to usher people back with reassurance with the sounds of grief in the ears of everyone in the vicinity. The sirens that people hear almost everyday grew, threatening to make them deaf. looped over and over again until they distorted.

The looped sound had everyone at its mercy.

Especially the girl swarmed in blankets grumbling in her bed.

The swarm of blankets shifted to reveal a hand that moved along the table next the bed. Not being able to find the source of the noise. Groaning louder this time, the blob of blankets moved and fell to the side revealing a disheveled girl with short messy purple hair. The most noticeable thing though, were the two fluffy white rabbit ears twitching as she stretched.

Squinting her eyes she searched for the noisy culprit to the side and grabbed it. Effectively hitting the stop button on her alarm.

“I need a better alarm” she mumbled as she rubbed her sensitive ears. Yawning as her nose twitched she finally convinced herself to get out of bed.

Arising from her sleepy state the girl got ready for the day at a leisurely pace. Once that was done she headed into the hallway to make her way to the kitchen for breakfast. Something that was done peacefully until she was rudely interrupted.

“Wow, you look like shit,” a voice said coming from the dining room.

The girl sighed and continued to put toast in the toaster. “Thanks Rumi, you always know how to flatter a girl”

The voice, now dubbed Rumi, walked out from the dinning room to reveal a woman with long white hair, dark skin and piercing red eyes. The woman also had a set of white rabbit ears to match with the girl across from her.

The woman looked her over and raised her eyebrow. “What’s with the attitude? No happy go lucky Miyako today?”

The question made the girl look over. “That Miyako comes out after I’ve had coffee” she yawned with a tired expression.

Rumi snickered,“I feel like that gremlin is rubbing off on you”

“Or am I rubbing off on him?” Miyako smiled tiredly.

“Why are you so tired anyways? Did you stay up late?” The woman asked curiously. While it wasn’t uncommon for her sister to be tired, there was just something there that made her ‘sister senses’ tingle.

“No no, I passed out after I finished my school stuff. I’m fine, just a bad sleep” Miyako said, brushing off the question, waving her hand.

Rumi squinted her eyes at the girl and eyed the bags under her eyes. “You had a nightmare again didn’t you?” She guessed, her expression softening as the girl avoided eye contact with her.

“Was it that day?” Rumi asked concerned as she moved toward Miyako.

“Yeah” she whispered in a hoarse voice and rubbed her arm anxiously.

Rumi didn’t hesitate to pull the girl into a tight hug. Miyako sunk into her arms and her anxious expression faded into a small smile. Despite the age difference between them they were close. They may not have always been like that but all that matters to them is that they are now.

The two stayed in the hug for a little longer to bask in the comfort until they were interrupted by a noise from Rumi’s phone. The woman unwrapped her arms from the girl and let go to check. “Shit, if you don’t leave now you’ll miss the train”

“What! What time is it?” Miyako exclaimed.

“It’s time to get your ass out of here, cotton tail” the woman shot back. She was pushing Miyakos shoulders towards where her backpack hung next to the door.

“Wait! I haven’t even had breakfast yet! Or my coffee,” she said as she dug her heels into the ground to try and stop herself from moving. The attempt was futile as Rumi was much stronger and had the better position to push her.

“No time. Just put on your shoes, I’ll grab it for you” Rumi waved off as she turned towards the kitchen once more.

Miyako slumped in defeat and grabbed her stuff. Thankfully all her stuff was packed in her backpack earlier so she didn’t have to scramble for anything. Once she finished with her shoes she turned and held out her hands in a grabbing motion. “Gimme.”

Rumi just placed the coffee cup and toast in her hands with a smile and shake of her head. “Remember you’re manners next time.”

“Ha ha very funny, coming from you” Miyako laughed sarcastically. She sipped her coffee only to choke when she was hit on the back of the head. “Hey!”

“Shoo, you’ll miss the train” Rumi ushered her out the door. “Oh and if anyone messes with you or that purple headed twin of yours, you have my permission to kick their asses Usagiyama style!”

Miyako just grinned with a thumbs up.

“You got it!”

-

As the rabbit-like girl ran to the train station she panted in exhaustion. ‘I hate running!’ Her mind screamed as she saw her train arriving at the stop. ‘Shit shit shit I’m not going to make it!’ She internally panicked before coming to a realization. ‘Miyako you idiot, you have a quirk! Use your quirk’

And use her quirk she did. She closed her eyes for a moment before opening them to a new world. Everything around her was in a state of slow motion. It was almost as if everything stopped and was frozen in time if it weren’t for the tiniest bit of motion. ‘Okay, I gotta be quick,’ she thought as she took a deep breath and sprinted as fast as she could until she was on the train.

As soon as the foot behind her made it through the door, the automatic door closed behind her. To the passengers on board, it caught them by surprise as the young out of breath girl came out of nowhere. It was almost as if she teleported.

‘God why does this happen all the time?’ the girl huffed with a red face and her hands on her knees. She caught her breath and stood up adjusting her backpack, trying to look as if nothing had happened.
‘Okay I’m good now,’ she assured herself before checking her surroundings.

There were a few people that looked at her strangely but she brushed those looks off. It would look a little strange if someone just appeared out of nowhere. Teleportation quirks were somewhat rare, admittedly not as rare as healing quirks, but they’re still uncommon to see day to day. As much as Miyako loves her quirk, she could admit having a quirk that lets her go from one place to another at the blink of an eye without running would be pretty sweet. ‘Running does suck’ she nodded to herself in agreement.

Still inspecting the people around, she noticed that there weren’t a lot of people with mutant type quirks in her area. The only two people besides herself that had obvious features were an old lady that had chameleon eyes sitting by the door and a man that had big stone arms that was leaving behind gravel on the ground.

‘I wonder how that affects his life? He probably had to vacuum his house every day’ she spaced out. Her thoughts trailed off as she made eye contact with some boy who was on the other side of the train car. The red eyes he had reminded her of Rumi. They had the same colour and sadistic look in them so it was sort of weirding her out. The guy glared for a moment before looking away with a tsk noise and grumbling under his breath. “Stupid rabbit”

What he didn’t know was that Miyako had excellent hearing and she could hear him perfectly clear. She glared at him intently and scowled, matching his look before crossing her arms and turning away to look outside the window. ‘How rude, and to think that I thought you were attractive’ she huffed ‘I take it back look like an angry hedgehog!’

As she looked at the scenery outside, her scowl lessened and she began absentmindedly fiddling with an object in her pocket. ‘I totally forgot that it was in there’ She thought as she brought it out to twiddle with it. Sitting in her hand was a pocket watch. It might be a strange object for a person to carry around everywhere but to Miyako it was a very precious item. Lifting it up to run her thumb along the engraving on the back, the light for the window gave the gold clock a nice shine.

It was pretty useful, the clock, it let her keep track of all the time she had. Her quirk screwed with her sense of time so it was hard to keep track. Her pocket watch was something to keep her grounded. Not that it stopped her from arriving late to things.

Smiling softly at the object, she opens it to check the time and twists her fingers around the chain. Placing the watch in her pocket she goes back to watching the scenery change outside.

It was a few minutes more until the signal for her stop chimed. The sound jerked her out of her daze and she headed for the doors. Turning from the window she made eye contact with the red eyed boy once more. With the split second she had to think and get off the train she decided to be childish and stick her tongue out at him. After this she walked out the doors without looking back.

In her decision, she missed the very angry scowl the boy made as he fumed.

‘Bye bye angry hedgehog boy’ Miyako thought to herself as she laughed quietly. Walking away from the train station and to her usual route to school she hummed a tune she heard on the radio. Her junior high was about a block away so she didn’t have far to walk but her already tired self was ready to finish the day and go back to bed. ‘I wish I had more coffee’ she mourned as she dragged herself to the gates of the school. Miyako closed her eyes, took a deep breath and sighed. Her eyes landed on the sign next to the entrance.
