Work Text:
“Gods,” Mona clasps her hands together with her eyes shut tight, “Please, I need to finish my research paper before midnight. Please don’t do this to me right now.”
She tries reloading the page for the fifth time and gets greeted by the same dinosaur mini-game that implies that she has no internet connection. This makes her let out a frustrated squeak and buries her face in her palms. Of all times, why now? She can’t even text her friends if she can come over because 1) she has no internet connection, 2) Lumine is out of town, Keqing is in a family reunion, and Ganyu would most likely be asleep as a rock by now, and finally, 3) her mobile plan expired hours ago so now her phone is as useless as she will be if she doesn’t pass this research paper before midnight.
Unfortunately for her, the professor is unforgiving and inconsiderate. He would most likely humiliate her and enumerate the “solutions” that she could’ve done. Unfortunately for said professor, his “solutions” don’t work for her. She doesn’t have enough money to buy another plan until next month, and it’s already too late to go out.
She lets out a whine this time, rubbing her palms against her face. What is she supposed to do now? She only has an hour and a half before the deadline and she’s running out of choices. She could pray, but it seems that the Gods are not in her favor right now. Maybe they’re punishing her for, take note, “almost” shoving Scaramouche down the stairs because he was messing with her.
Wait, that’s it.
Scaramouche! How could she forget the midget that lives next door? Surely he has wi-fi. Mona places her laptop beside her, heads out, and proceeds to knock at the unit beside hers. It took her a few more knocks before the door swings wide open, revealing a grumpy looking Scaramouche. His hair was messy and was rubbing his right eye. Mona swallowed the laugh that bubbled up her throat.
“What do you want, Megistus?” He greets with a raspy voice.
“Well, you see,” She replies, “I have a research paper that’s due at midnight and my wi-fi has been acting up, so I thought—”
“No. Now go away.” Scaramouche was really about to close the door at her face.
Mona pushes the door back, “H-hey, wait! Wait! Aren’t you gonna’ be nice?”
“Why would I be nice to the person that almost shoved me down the stairs?” He replies with a raised eyebrow.
“Keyword, almost.” Mona corrects, “And besides, you started it! You kept pestering me!”
Scaramouche snorts, “And your first thought was to shove me down the fucking stairs?”
“I said I was sorry.” Mona grumbles.
“Save it. I’m going back to sleep.”
With that, he closes the door at her face. Mona couldn’t even believe what happened. The nerve of that little devil! She marches back to her unit and slams the door. She hates his guts so much. His smirk, his voice, his laugh—they all make Mona gag. If she knew she’d meet him in this university, she would’ve chose another one. Ever since she met him, he never stopped pestering her; tugging on her hair during lunch, countless attempts of tripping her, sticking his tongue out whenever he sees her—Mona could make a whole book about what she hates about Scaramouche and she’ll probably have a new entry for it each day.
She sighs as she threw herself to the sofa, grabbing her laptop and opening it. Looks like she’ll have to retake this subject next semester—
Unless.
Unless she guesses Scaramouche’s wi-fi password.
It should be easy, right? It could be his birthday or a combination of his name and birthdate (don’t ask. That’s not her laptop and phone’s password). It sparks a new flame in the girl’s chest. She looks at the clock. She still has an hour and twenty-five minutes. She can do this. Mona opens her laptop and selects Scaramouche’s wi-fi.
Don’t connect, my ass. Mona thinks while smirking to herself.
Okay, first. His birthday.
Incorrect password.
Mona frowns. Okay, maybe that was too easy. He doesn’t look like the type to use his birthday as a password too. She rests her chin on her palm as she tries to think deep. If she was Scaramouche, what would her wi-fi password be?
123456.
Incorrect password.
She facepalms. Who the hell would even put that as their password, Mona? She makes a mental note to not tell her friends about what she did. The purple-haired girl taps her fingers against her lap. This was surely harder than what she expected. Maybe she should’ve asked for Albedo’s help instead. Mona sighs. She’s so close to giving up and just decides to type random words, hoping that one of them would be his password.
Mona Megistus.
Mona snorts as she stared at her name. It would be hilarious if Scaramouche’s wi-fi password is her name. I mean, who does that? Of all people? A laugh escapes her lips before deciding to press enter.
Connecting…
Internet access.
What.
“What the fuck?!”
Mona blinked twice. Thrice. She looked at the connected wi-fi symbol on her taskbar. Did she just managed to guess Scaramouche’s wi-fi password? Did she just find out that his wi-fi password is her NAME? HER? She’s glad she’s connected, but at what cost? She felt heat rush through her face and she covers her mouth. Oh, my Gods. Wait, she doesn’t have time to think about this now. She needs to finish the research paper first.
In the other unit, Scaramouche sat on his bed with his laptop in front of him, horrified and a blushing mess.
“Holy shit.”
