Work Text:

you never would’ve thought the time would come that you would marry someone. your life was busy, hectic and you never had room to include romance into the mix of everything, but here you are—officially a newlywed. you and your now husband connected at a local book store that was in the center of the city. he was there to buy a book on recipes for baked goods while you were there for studying purposes.

and, surprisingly, the two of you seemingly hit it off from there. you came to learn his name, vyn richter. he was a psychiatrist and even owned his own research center that stayed in the heart of the city. when you asked to see it, he didn’t hesitate to take you. in fact, he was quite excited that you did. after his research center came his home which became the place where the two of you met every weekend.

you spent endless amounts of time together, grew close and eventually took things to a more serious step—a relationship. it was your first relationship and you hoped that it would be your only one. instead of just the confines of his home, vyn would take you on outings through the city. they ranged from fancy dinner dates to even simple evenings in the park. no matter what they were, you always enjoyed them and savored them to the fullest.

on the night of your 2nd anniversary, you were met with a proposal from vyn. you were shocked, honestly. you were already worried that dating was enough of a situation for vyn to handle with his work, but a marriage? you couldn’t even begin to imagine. you were hesitant, for vyn’s sake. if his life wasn’t as hectic as it was, you would’ve said yes the instant you saw the ring. and when vyn had noticed your hesitation, he took a step back. he didn’t want you to be hesitant about marrying him, and if he had to wait longer, he would.

you explained how you felt and vyn reassured you, “you need not worry about me and my work. if i wasn’t sure i’d be able to handle something like marriage, i wouldn’t have bought this ring, practiced my proposal to you, or dove into this relationship in the first place. i want this—i want you, and only you.”

it was once he said those words, that your worries faded away and you accepted his proposal. you were both ecstatic and wasted no time in getting things moving. after a few months of planning, you two were ready to be wed. you remember the night clearly; the evening sky, the shimmering fairy lights that were strung across trees, and vyn with the most prominent and loving smile you’d seen on him yet.

said night was less than 3 days ago. on the night of your marriage, vyn took you out to a lakeside place he had rented for a few days. he couldn’t afford to stay away from work for too long, so you both settled on a 3 day get away of sorts. though it was only 3 days, the time you spent there felt everlasting.

the days were reserved for exploring the area, enjoying the coolness of the lake in the summer heat and other basic activities the two of you enjoyed doing while the nights were reserved for passionate moments between you two in the privacy of your bedroom. but soon your trip came to a close and the two of you had to make your return to the city.

“ah, i forgot to mention,” vyn said, breaking the previous silence that filled the car, “your things arrived at my—our home some time last night, so we shouldn’t have to worry about anything else for now.”

“i almost forgot i was moving in..,” you mumbled, taking note of the correction vyn made, “ahh, living with someone is definitely going to be.. something to get used to.”

you heard a light chuckle from your side and looked to vyn who had a small smile on his face.

“forgetting our new status already, are we?” he teased, glancing over to you for a second.

“not even!” you let out, lightly smacking his arm, “it’s just- i’m not used to it yet is all.”

“i know,” vyn said, reaching over and placing his hand on your head, “i’m simply teasing.”

you sighed, reaching up and taking his hand into yours before you leaned back into the seat. the two of you sat in silence until you arrived at vyn’s—your home. you got out the car and stretched your legs. the drive back had been a good couple of hours, so being back on your feet felt amazing. you looked and watched as vyn got out, grabbing the bags the two of you packed for your trip from out the backseat.

he looked to you and cocked his head in the direction of the house. you glanced to it, suddenly feeling intimidated by the realization you were going to be living with someone else—a man—your husband.

the movies never taught you this.

vyn made his way to the house, disappearing inside. you let out a sigh, pat your cheeks and followed in after him. though you’ve already been here plenty of times, arriving as a newlywed made the experience feel foreign.

“i’ll take these upstairs. give me a moment,” vyn said and you nodded in response.

he disappeared down the hall and upstairs, now leaving you in the silence of the living room. you looked around the place, taking everything in as if it was your first time being inside the house. you took in a deep breath, taking in the scent of books, baked goods and fresh laundry. the combination sounded odd, but it was actually quite comforting. you were about to lose yourself in your thoughts, but the feeling of arms wrapping around your stomach kept you.

you looked over your shoulder, locking eyes with vyn. you let a soft smile creep onto your face and turned to him fully, embracing his scent as you pulled yourself to his chest. vyn let out a soft chuckle, gently stroking your hair as one of his arms stayed locked around you.

“it feels different, doesn’t it?” he asked you.

“definitely different,” you said, raising your head to look him in the eye once more, “i’ll get used to it though, maybe, eventually.”

vyn pressed a kiss against your forehead before parting ways from you, wandering his way in the direction of the kitchen.

“it’s still quite early..,” he trailed off before turning to you, “shall i make us breakfast? or, well, i guess this could be considered brunch.”

“brunch sounds nice,” you nodded as your arms crossed over your chest.

“you know,” vyn said, “you’re much more awkward than you usually are. i’m only your husband now, not a stranger.”

“i’m more than aware of that, thank you very much, mr. richter.”

“well, i’m glad you are then, mrs/mr/mx. (or whatever variant of honorific you use) richter,” vyn said before then disappearing into the hallway once more.

you sat yourself down in one of the chairs available and took in your surroundings just as you did when you first came here. life was officially different for you now. instead of waking up to a empty home, you were instead of going to be waking up beside the man you love so dearly. half of your life was now vyn’s and half of his was yours. the two of you no longer had to live in the silence of your homes and instead could now fill your own with whatever you decide to, together, for as long as you both wish to.

some minutes passed and the sound of vyn calling you from the kitchen caught your attention. you got up and hurried to him, entering as he sets down two plates of food at the table. you take in the scent of vyn’s cooking and let out an audible and content sigh to which vyn’s chuckles. you and vyn sit yourselves down and enjoy your meals. the two of you talked about many things; ranging from work, stories you had to tell each other and so on.

instead of the silence the two of you had gotten so used to, there was the sound of laughter and life. marriage was something the two of you were going to have to get used to. it was a new chapter in both of your ongoing stories that the both of you were going to read through slowly because every moment you spent together was going to be one the two of you cherish for a lifetime.

the day went on and led into the night. vyn had already gotten into bed a little bit before you as you had a few extra things left to handle for your return to work. you let out a relieved sigh as you collapsed onto the bed, curling into the mattress and burying yourself in the comforter. you felt vyn shift around, and when you looked to him, you were met with a sleepy, messy haired husband.

you cooed and scooted closer to him, your arms wrapping themselves around his neck. your eyes wandered across vyn’s sleeping features. he looked so peaceful and, quite honestly, very adorable. his cheek was squished against the pillow, lips parted slightly as his let out little snores every now and then. as your hand reached up to run itself through vyn’s hair, you leaned in closer and pressed a gentle kiss against the beauty mark beneath vyn’s eye.

you could definitely get used to this.

you let your eyes close and buried your face in vyn’s chest, listening to the gentle beating of his heart till you eventually let yourself fall into a deep slumber with high hopes for your new future with the man you wished to spend the rest of your life with. you didn’t know what was coming, but you knew the two of you will be able to take on whatever it was. you knew the two of you were going to last a lifetime because the sheer need and love you felt for each other was more powerful than anything imaginable.
