Work Text:
It was pretty late at night and they all just came back from one of the tougher missions so the only thing on Tecchou's mind was his bed. He took quick shower, grabbed something to eat from the fridge and went straight to bed. Not much time has passed when he felt his consciousness slipping away but was brutally brought back when the door to his room opened without a warning. His hand was reaching for his sword before his eyes opened, it was a reflex but when he heard a familiar sigh, he immediately relaxed. He closed eyes again, not even bothering to look in the direction of an intruder.
"Your room smells like a wet dog. No, worse than that." Jouno declared and Tecchou bothered to only mumble something incoherent in response.
He could precisely imagine the way Jouno's face was twisted in exaggerated disgust and didn't even have to look at him. He felt too tired to bother and he knew what was going to come next anyway, no matter the insults coming from his partner. Exactly as predicted he felt bed bend slightly under the weight of another person and a warmth of a body close to him, pressing against his back.
He slowly turned so he was facing him and only then finally decided to open his eyes. Although the only light was the one coming through the windows it wasn't that dark anymore. It was probably closer to dawn than midnight now. Bluish glow enveloped the whole room making it all look more like a dream than reality. Tecchou looked at Jouno's face. He looked relaxed but it was clear he wasn't asleep yet. At least clear to Tecchou as he managed to learn how to tell the difference in Jouno's breathing patterns through all the nights they spent together.
There were dark shadows under his eyes and it was obvious that even he was exhausted after today. His hair was wet from the shower and messier than during the day. He looked less...put together. Less perfect and more human. Despite it all, or maybe because of it, he looked ethereal to Tecchou. He could just watch him for hours and hours. Like he wanted to memorize every detail of his face. The way his lips curved, the shadows his eyelashes cast, the strawberry shade of his hair tips, wrinkles between his brows that appeared when he made that face he was making right now.
"What?" Jouno barked almost defensively.
"Hm?" Tecchou didn't understand what he meant.
"You're staring. I can feel it, weirdo."
"Ah. You're just pretty." He answered truthfully with the first thing that was on his tongue. But "pretty" didn't give Jouno justice and he wished he could tell him that, especially when his reaction was already so different to what he was used to showing. Jouno's cheeks darkened and he punched him in the stomach with way more force than necessary. It didn't really hurt but Tecchou made a quiet 'oof' sound out of surprise.
"I really wish you were dead." Jouno hissed. Tecchou made a hum of acknowledgement but didn't really pay much mind to it and instead he just reached his hand and gently stroked his cheek. After the initial tense reaction Jouno relaxed under his touch and, although he would always deny it, he even chased it. Tecchou kept on touching his face, moving along his jawline, cheeks and eyelids.
"I meant it." He said as he slowly moved his hand down to his neck and then hair. It wasn't the first time they did this but Tecchou's stomach was tied in knots and it had nothing to do with an earlier punch.
"I will kill you myself if you don't shut up." Jouno said but it felt even emptier than before when he was obviously way too comfortable in his hands. Tecchou listened though and instead of talking, moved closer and stole a kiss from him. Jouno tasted like toothpaste and to his surprise he kept on kissing him for longer than he anticipated. It was a good kiss. When they finally separated Jouno frowned at him.
"What the hell did you eat...or you know what? I don't want to know. Don't. Don't answer that." He put a hand over his mouth just as Tecchou was opening them to talk. "Why can't you just brush your teeth like a normal person?"
"I did. But I was hungry after that and then too tired." Tecchou managed to answer even with hand pressed to his mouth. Jouno whined and muttered something about his gross habits as he cuddled closer. He positioned himself a bit lower than Tecchou despite their heights, as always. Tecchou wrapped arms around him and basically hid face in his hair.
"Night." Tecchou heard. He felt exhaustion catching up with him again, so instead of answering he just left a quick kiss on his head. Jouno tangled their legs together and it didn't take much time for his breathing to even out. Tecchou couldn't help but smirked. It always worked so fast it was almost cute.
With Jouno's heightened senses it was easy for him to get overwhelmed and overstimulated. And falling asleep at these moments wasn't easy so he just worked out a habit of coming over to Tecchou. Cuddled to him, as Jouno put it, there was nothing to get distracted with. All he can hear then is Tecchou's heartbeat and breathing, all he can smell is Tecchou, all he can feel is just Tecchou and nothing else. And Tecchou is... a familiar presence. Tecchou is just safe. And it works like a lullaby.
Tecchou tries not to think too much about what it can mean. He doesn't want to get disappointed, especially with the way he himself was feeling around the other lately. Tecchou strengthened his grip around Jouno. It was good enough the way things were between them, he thought to himself as he was falling asleep. They didn't need big words. As long as he could see Jouno like this...as long as he could hold him like this, it was good.
