Work Text:
it was early, that much isaac could tell.
dim, grey light poked through makeshift curtains he had put up. the light almost seemed to make the room colder.
isaac stared up at the ceiling, mind drifting off to a different place, until john rolled over on to isaac's chest and suddenly john's warmth was all he could think of.
isaac traced patterns on john's back absentmindedly, finding comfort in the motions.
this was peaceful.
isaac really didn't think he'd be able to have moments like this again. he felt calm, nightmares going away with the nighttime.
he wishes it was always like this. wishes they could just lead a normal life.
he wishes he could wake up every morning with his boyfriend in his arms and light streaming through the windows, have a nice day in, watch movies, even.
this morning is a bittersweet one, no matter how much isaac wishes otherwise.
there's always going to be something to fight against, some fucked up infestation of reanimated corpses that they're going to have to kill; some batshit unitologist garbage that they've got to stop. at least they could have this though, he thought, these mornings that were quiet, and calm. or those nights that go much later than either of them planned to stay up, talking and *laughing* like everything's normal.
"i love you," isaac breaks the silence of the room, but doesn't expect john to respond. it gets a chuckle out of him when john mumbles something that sounds like "i love you too" into the fabric of isaac's t-shirt.
