Chapter 1: Chapter One

Chapter Text

Dee sighed as he sat down on his window sill. The sun had already begun setting, the sky a reddish, orange. Like a painting, you would see in an art gallery. It was warm and comforting. Dee stared at the people and cars passing in the streets below. He sighed as he took off his cuffs and choker, them starting to bother him after the long 8-mile walk he had just taken. It had been weeks since he had broken the cycle of waking up, going to school, coming home, walking, doing his workout routine, and then resting. Doing whatever in his free time. He had kept this up, nobody had noticed the difference in him. They had just seen it as a change in his day-to-day lifestyle. Trying to be more healthy. It had started like that but it had started to grow.

He looked over at his guitar, sighing as he picked it up and began strumming at the chords.

A5, F5, D5, A5, F5, D, A, F

Slowly Strumming out the chords to one of his favorite songs, heart-shaped box. His uncle Ches had shown it to him about a week ago, and ever since it had become one of his favorites. He had never really liked their music but for some reason, it had been playing on repeat in his head so he had decided to teach himself to play it. It was one of the few things keeping him sane, and happy. His uncle Ches had been helping him learn for about a year now and he had started getting the hang of it.

His train of thought was soon broken by his younger brother, Heavy, walking into his room with a large slam, causing him to jump and lose his train of thought.
“Hey, Dee! Your back! I've been looking for you for almost an hour now!!” Heavy called out, running over to the blonde, taking a seat beside him. “I see you're finally starting to pick up the guitar! I can teach you a few things if you would want” Heavy Smiled as Dee placed the guitar against the wall beside him, turning so his legs hung from the short ledge of the window. “I don't need your help, I'm perfectly fine on my own. I’m learning the song that uncle Ches showed me a while back” The blonde sighed, standing up and walking over to his bed, the redhead following behind, sitting on the edge. “Fine, well anyways. Dad said you have to help me out with my work tonight.” The blonde inhaled deeply, resting his head in the palm of his hands. “God, why can’t he or mom? I planned on going out tonight” “Can I g-” The blonde interrupted. “No, don't even think about it. You’re still too young to go out late at night.”

Heavy frowned, looking at Dee with puppy dog eyes. “Well, then i’ll have to tell dad you didn’t help me, and then he'll get pissed at you” Dee groaned, laying back. “Fine, but you have to do your homework on your own tonight if you go.”

“Deal”

....
It was 11:45, the boy’s parents had gone to sleep. Dee knocked on heavy’s door, walking in. “You ready? Im about to go” Heavy jumped from his bed, running to his brother. He grabbed his jacket and slipped on his boots, which he had recently got from his father because of his falling apart. "Look, stay within my sight, i don't want you wandering off ok?" The ginger nodded, smiling up at his brother. "i knowwww let's just go already!!!" He pleaded, getting impatient.

The door silently shut behind the two brothers, as Dee locked the door behind them and they began walking. "So... where are we going?" The redhead curiously asked. Dee closed his eyes, taking a deep breath. The Cool night air of the Russian streets filling his lungs. "Nowhere imparticular, i just like night walks" Dee stated bluntly, earning a small mean of frustration from heavy. "You're no fun" He frowned, as they continued down the dark streets, guided by the faint lights of the street lamps. Dee pulled out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, lighting it with his lighter, both of which he had gotten from his mom. She never really minded, she just didn't want him getting into trouble with them, She believed it was his choice to make on his own. "Woah! Where did you get those!" Heavy asked, looking up at Dee with mild curiosity. "Mom, she got them for me."

Heavy tilted his head like a confused dog, squinting his green eyes. "Why?" Dee took a long inhale, slowly exhaling as he looked down at heavy. "You ask too many questions." "Do not!" Heavy Exclaimed, pouting. The two turned a corner into the parking lot of an old gas station. "You want anything? Dad gave me some money from helping you out last week, i have $20 if you want anything." Heavy shook his head. "Not unless you want anything." Dee shrugged, setting down on the curb, taking another hit of his cigarette. "Not right now, think about it and i can get you something on the way back." Heavy took a seat next to his brother, leaning against him for warmth. Dee put an arm around him, putting part of his jacket around his younger brother. "How do you stand it being so cold out? Im freezing with my jacket on." "I'm just used to it honestly" He lied. He was almost always freezing. He even would freeze in the sun. He felt terrible for lying so much but it was for his own good

His brother yawned, rubbing his eyes sleepily. "Why do you take so many walks? It seems boring not going anywhere" Dee shrugged, thinking of a lie on the spot, "I just like walking, good exercise and gives me something to do." Dee lied though his teeth, his brother was only 13, he didn't need to know. He didn't need to worry him. "Hey Dee?" Heavy mumbled, looking up at his older brother. "Hm?" "How come i haven't seen you at lunch for awhile?" Dee's heart began to race. "I study in the library during lunch, i dont really like their food" He lied. "Oh, well... Why don't you just study during free period? You never really have work to do, since you finish it all." Dee tapped the ashes off his cigarette, taking one last hit before throwing the butt into the sewer drain near them. "I just like to get more studying done, since next year is my junior year i wanna be able to clarify for the higher education classes. Like Computer science and Programming" "oh.." Heavy mumbled. He cuddled up to Dee, clearing his throat. He knew something was wrong. He never seen him during lunch, or really ever seen him eat. He looks like a skeleton. Something was wrong. He just didn't know how to bring it up. He didn't want to scare him away. He didn't know what to do. There wasn't really anything he could.

"You ready to head back hevs?" Dee mumbled, rubbing the younger boy's shoulder. "Mmmph, i dont want to" Heavy mumbled, sleepily as he yawned. "I'll take that as a yes" Dee chuckled softly, standing up, the redhead following after.

.....

Dee unlocked the door, holding it open as the younger boy entered. "G'night heavs" Dee mumbled, shutting the door, locking it behind the two as the headed to their rooms.
