Allison wishes she’d had the chance to dress up — to rub kohl around her eyes, dress in Egyptian linen and wear an ankh of gold.
The Commission budget’s gone to shit, though, so she’s stuck in a suit and toting a briefcase. And heavy gloves, of course. The asp isn’t meant for her.
Cleopatra is elegant, her chambers exquisite. She shrieks when Allison appears in her doorway, snake in hand. Before the last Pharaoh of Egypt can call for her guards, the words tumble out of Allison’s mouth, just as beautiful and deadly in Ancient Greek.
“I heard a rumor…”
