‘Quickly or he’ll become suspicious.’

Jimin, Namjoon and Yoongi whispered back and forth glancing towards their practice room a few times to see if their hyung heard them.

‘Hyung I'm telling you strawberries are better than the pineapple.’ Jimin told Yoongi as the rapper was about to place said fruit on the beautiful cake Jimin had decorated.

‘Yah what’s the point in asking me to come and help if you don’t want to listen to me?’

‘But Jin-hyung likes strawberries.’

Yoongi rolled his eyes. ‘You also insisted we use the white icing instead of the pink.’ He remined the singer.

‘Sorry but hyung-’

‘Forget it. Just do it yourself.’ The rapper told him raising his hands and went back to the practice room.

Jimin stuck his tongue behind the rapper and turned to Namjoon who just shook his head. He didn’t want to get in the middle of that cat fight that might start. As quickly as possible they placed the strawberries and lit the candles, Jimin carrying the cake as carefully as he could as they walked into the dark room where all the others were.

Jimin smirked when he heard the surprised gasp Jin let out.

‘Ok one two three.’ Jungkook called.

‘Happy birthday to you

Happy birthday to you

Happy birthday Seokjinnie

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUUUUU! ’

Even in the dim light of the darkened studio everyone could see that Seokjin was bright red face from all the attention.

‘Make a wish hyung.’ Jimin sang pushing the cake and candles right under Jin’s nose.

‘I wish to not get burned Jimin-ah.’ The singer joked as he held the cake and candles a safe distance away from his face. Closing his eyes, he made his wish and blew them out. The lights came back on and he was immediately attacked by icing all over his face and even some in his hair (courtesy of Namjoon).

‘Yah I have to go live in a few minutes.’ He protested half-heartedly but no one paid him any attention.

Everyone was in a very good mood happy for a break from the monotonous routine they had fallen into these past few weeks. And they had the rest of the day off which was even more exciting. Well, all except one…their resident cat Yoongi was leaning against a wall on the far side of the room and was pulling a face more apt for a funeral of a person he hated than a birthday.

The members had all noticed of course but all of them knew to leave the rapper alone for a bit when he was in this kind of mood. He liked to be left alone to sort out his feelings alone and he was pretty good at it so no one was too concerned. Jin did wonder for a second if he should go and talk to him anyway but was distracted when Tae came over.

‘Here hyung.’ Taehyung held up the biggest slice of cake Jin had ever seen. ‘Open.’

Jin obliged and took a big bit of the cake before taking it and pushing the rest into his dongsaeng’s mouth. Tae almost choked on it but gave his hyung a thumbs up and a big smile, cheeks puffed out.

‘Hyung when are you going on Vlive?’ Hoseok asked him.

Jin checked his watch. ‘About fifteen minutes.’

‘Don’t go on for too long I think the maknaes are planning something.’

Namjoon chuckled. ‘Yeah, besides hyung you will need rest now that you’re so old.’

‘YAH punk!’

Namjoon too that as his que to get as far away from his hyung, running to the other side of the room and ducked behind Yoongi.

‘Save me hyung.’

The older rapper sent their leader an unamused look and moved a few steps away, sitting right up against the mirror. ‘Grow up a bit Namjoon.’

Namjoon's hurt and slightly confused look did not pass by Seokjin but he hesitated to scold the his oldest dongsaeng. It could honestly go one of two ways, either Yoongi would clean up his act or he would get even more angry and Seokjin wasn’t really willing to find out right now. It may have been selfish of him but today he didn’t want to deal with misbehaving members, he just wanted to eat some cake and hang out with all of them.

Catching Namjoon's eyes he gestured the rapper to follow him back to where the others were almost done packing up their stuff.

‘What’s his problem?’ Hoseok whispered to both of them, jabbing his thumb not so subtly at Yoongi.

Jin shrugged. Most likely the rapper hadn’t gotten enough sleep the previous night and a quick nap would fix everything. He was just about to suggest that the rapper do just that their staff called out that they could leave. The second the rapper heard that he leapt to his feet and was gone before Seokjin could even blink.

‘Hyung come back as fast as you can, ok?’ Jungkook called to him and he gave the maknae a thumbs up.

He waved goodbye to all the members and made his way to the studio that was already set up for his birthday live. Once he was in, he tried calling Yoongi twice but he couldn’t get through. Jin wasn’t too worried. Sometimes Yoongi just needed time away from people and the singer was sure the rapper was in his studio instead of back at their dorm.

Wiping the icing off his face he turned on the camera.

“Hello ARMY!”

-

Today was not Yoongi’s day. He fell out bed at four in the morning and just hadn’t been able to fall back to sleep. Trying to make use of all the extra time he had now he opened his lyric book and sat down to write. He however was only able to just stare at it for almost an hour, his mind absolutely blank. He went back to his bed after another half hour and stared at his ceiling instead. When his alarm went off, he dragged himself out of bed and made a huge cup of coffee which he promptly spilled on himself.

Then when they all piled into the company car that was taking them to the Big Hit building, he realised he had forgotten his headphones and had to spend the whole car ride listening to Taehyung talk loudly about something that he tried to tune out.

Needless to say, by the time they got to their practiced room he was already ready for the day to be over which was quite sad because Seokjin seemed to be having the time of his life celebrating. He put some distance between himself and his hyung to not cause his bad mood to affect Jin.

His mood worsened when Jimin called him to help decorate Seokjin’s cake and they both disagreed about everything. He had thrown his hands up in defeat and left in a huff.

When Jin had finally cut his cake after only two hours of dancing and the staff told them they could leave he practically jumped up and rushed to his studio. Maybe just maybe the writing gods will; be merciful and let him actually get some work done.

He got two calls from Jin as he was digging around for a pen but he just ignored them. He would be seeing the singer later anyway. It only took him a few minutes to realise he was still completely out of ideas. Basic words seemed to elude him. He was not someone who was affected by bad writer’s block unlike Namjoon but today was apparently the day it hit him hard.

The only highlight of coming here was that a package he had ordered weeks back had finally showed up. He packed the little black box into a back pack along with his book and some water and left the genius lab. Instead of talking a car back to the dorm, he pulled his mask high up on his face and put on a bucket hat hoping some fresh air on the walk back would do his muddled brain some good.

Walking around just gave him a headache instead and he made his way back to the dorm as quickly as he could, resigning himself to a fruitless day filled with boredom. He could hear some of the members loudly shouting at each other in the kitchen. He flopped down on a couch in the living room but before he could put on his ear plugs Taehyung was hovering over him.

‘Hyung, we need your help.’

‘No.’ He huffed

‘It’s important.’

 ‘Go ask Namjoon then.’

Tae groaned. ‘I don’t want to burn the food or the kitchen. Jungkook is making ramen but we need your help with the miyeok guk. Please?’ He gave his hyung his best puppy dog eyes that the rapper couldn’t normally refuse.

‘No. Go bother Hoseok if you need to be so annoying.’

Tae would have probably kept arguing but Jungkook called him saying they would run out of time he if didn’t come so he settled for glaring at the oldest rapper who pushed his ear plugs in and closed his eyes.

The livestream had brought Jin’s mood up drastically. Jimin had popped in for a few minutes at the start and the rest of the members, save for Yoongi had called to wish him on camera. He was completely caught up in what he was doing trying to reply to most the comments even the ones in English he didn’t realise how long he had been live till one of the staff came and told him that maybe he should start wrapping up. With a few goodbyes and kisses to the camera he ended the livestream promising to post on Weverse later.

When he finally got back to dorm, he was greeted by a very angry maknae.

‘HYUNG, I told you to come early.’ He whined, grabbing the elder and dragging him to dining room. ‘The food is getting cold.’

‘Food?’

Jungkook nodded proudly gesturing to the food taking up most of their table.

‘Might be better if hyung doesn’t eat it.’ Yoongi grumbled from the living room. ‘Don’t want him to get poisoned.’

Jungkook sent him a glare but smiled when Jin pulled him in for hug. ‘Thank you Jungkookie.’

‘Tae helped.’

Jin hummed and sat down as Jungkook called the rest of the members in. This was all he could have asked for honestly and food was amazing. It was nice to see all of the members relaxing on their day off instead of working anyway. Yoongi did keep dropping snide comments towards his dongsaengs but he seemed better than he had been back the studio.

Yoongi was not better however. If anything, he felt worse after still not being able to sleep when he got back. He hated being unproductive and that’s all his day had been. He knew he was being an asshole but he didn’t really try to stop the jabs he threw at the members. It wasn’t their fault that he was in a bad mood but everything they were doing was grating on him. It was just easier to hide his bad mood with everyone else talking enthusiastically letting him eat his food in peace.

‘Ok!’ Hoseok said loudly, breaking Yoongi out of his thoughts. ‘Hyung, we have something to give you.’ The other members nodded and they quickly the last bits of food into their mouths and cleared the plates away. The rapper perked up a bit. He was actually quite excited to give Jin what he had gotten for him.

Quickly going back to the living room, he pulled out the small parcel he had picked up. He had seen the company website a few months back and he knew he just had to get one of their custom glass figures for his hyung. It was honestly perfect. Carefully he carried the box back to where everyone else was excitedly watching Jin unwrap his gifts, face bright red from all the attention.

Yoongi leaned against the doorway. Away from everyone else wanting to give his last when all the chaos had died down a bit. Jungkook noticed him and gestured for him to come over. The rapper shook his head but the maknae didn’t want to take no for an answer.

He marched over to Yoongi, smiling so brightly he could blind people. ‘Hyung seriously lighten up and come.’

It all happened in slow motion. Jungkook grabbed Yoongi’s arm and pulled him towards the other causing the box the rapper was holding to slowly tumble to the floor. Even over the noise Yoongi could swear he heard it crack and he snapped.

‘Fucking hell Jungkook!’ He yelled before he could even process what he was saying. ‘What part of “no” escapes your understanding?’ he reached down and scooped up the box. Jungkook clearly realised what he had accidently done and opened his mouth to apologise but Yoongi didn’t give him a chance. The room had gotten completely silent and he knew everyone was staring at him but he just couldn’t care.

‘I don’t want to “lighten up” and act like a fucking five-year-old. Why can’t you just grow the fuck up and leave me alone?!’

Seokjin slammed his hand down on the table frightening everyone out of the shock they were all in. The second he saw his hyung’s face Yoongi knew he had crossed the line. Out of the corner of his eye he could see Jungkook blinking away tears but he couldn’t make his mouth move to apologise.

Jin took a deep breath and looked the rapper directly in the eye. ‘Go to our room.’

‘Hyung I-’

‘Just go Yoongi-ah.’

Yoongi wanted to argue, plead his case, apologise, anything but he couldn’t stand the glares and frustrated glances his members were throwing him. He turned on his heel rushed to his room. Setting the present on his desk he lay on his bed and started to reply what had just happened. Before he even realised what was happening, he felt a few tears run down his face, vison blurring. Today should have been a relaxing day for all of them but especially Seokjin. His hyung was supposed to have a fun birthday with the members but Yoongi had fucked up and now Jin had to deal with him.

He wasn’t allowed to stew in his thoughts for long. Only a few minutes passed before the door of the bedroom creaked open and Yoongi heard Seokjin step in. He screwed his eyes shut as his hyung took a seat on the bed. He didn’t want to see the look on his hyung’s face and desperately wished for the bed to swallow him whole.

They sat in silence for a few minutes before Jin spoke.

‘That was uncalled for Yoongi. You know that right?’

The rapper gave a jerky nod but otherwise didn’t respond and Jin didn’t expect him to. He could tell that the younger boy was already regretting his actions but Jin couldn’t let it go. The rapper barely every even scolded the maknae let alone yell. Jungkook had been more than a little upset and the members were still trying to comfort and calm him down when he had left them.

He sat a bit further back on the bed and reached over to his dongsaeng, manhandling him over his lap. Yoongi didn’t put up any resistance and settled on his hyung’s thighs, still fully on the bed. He pulled a pillow that was near his head and rested on it.

‘You’ve been walking a fine line all day Yoongi. Hyung let you get away with it and that’s my fault.’

He had to steel his nerves before he grabbed the rapper’s pants and underwear and pulled them to his knees. Then he reached down and grabbed one of his slippers. It was quite new; he had only worn it a couple of times which was unfortunate for the rapper.

‘I really did not want to do this but you’ve left me no choice.’ Jin sighed. Then he raised the slipper and started bringing it down fast all over his dongsaengs butt, immediately turning it a bright pink. He was not holding back at all.

Yoongi gasped at the intensity of it. Usually, his hyung would start off relatively slow and then ramp up the intensity but now he wasn’t even giving the rapper a second to even breath. He was already quite emotional and combined with the burning pain he knew was just going to get worse, it didn’t take long before he was letting out chocked sobs. He didn’t even try to stop them; he was just too tired.

‘You had absolutely no right to talk to Jungkook like that. In what world did you think that was ok?’ Jin scolded, not pausing for a second. He wanted this to be over as soon as possible. ‘And it’s not just Jungkook. You’ve been rude to the members all day not including your bad attitude. Do you have anything to say for yourself?’

‘I'm sorry!’

Jin had to stop himself from rolling his eyes. He believed Yoongi but whenever any of the members were in this position they would plead, apologise and make all the promises; anything to stop the punishment.

‘I'm the last person you should be apologising to. I'm the only one you weren’t rude to. Maybe you at least have some respect for your hyung.’ Jin thought about it for a second. ‘Or was it just because you knew you would get into trouble with me?’

Yoongi shook his head violently. ‘NO, I-I just…’ He couldn’t get his brain to connect to his mouth so he just buried his face into the mattress and sobbed.

Jin took some pity on him and set down the slipper for a moment. ‘What happened Yoongi-ah?’

His dongsaeng took a few shaky breaths. ‘It broke.’

‘What?’

The rapper raised a trembling hand and pointed to the black box. ‘Jungkook pulled me and it broke.’

Jin looked over and understood instantly. His heart melted slightly.

‘That is upsetting Yoongs, but that doesn’t excuse blowing up.’

‘I know.’

‘You want to tell me why you were in a bad mood before this happened?’

Yoongi shrugged. ‘Bad day. Not an excuse though.’

Jin nodded. ‘Your right. I’ve told you so many times to come to me if you’re having a bad day.’

He picked up the slipper again and tapped it against the rapper’s thigh. ‘Last ten, ok?’ Without waiting for a response, he brought it down on Yoongi’s thighs, causing the younger boy to start crying again.

‘I'm sorry. I'm sorry.’

‘Few more.’ Jin told him and quickly finished giving the rapper the last few smacks and then started rubbing the boy’s back. He did get a bit worried when the rapper did not calm down after a few minutes.

‘Yoongi? Come let’s go eat some ice cream, hm?’

His eyes widened when Yoongi’s cries got harder at the statement. Clearly there was something else wrong that the rapper wasn’t telling him. Reaching over he pulled the younger boy off his lap so he was kneeling next to him on the bed. He gently pushed Yoongi’s chin up so he could see his eyes.

‘Yoongi-ah what’s wrong?’

‘Ru-ruined it.’

Jin cocked his head sideways, completely confused. ‘Ruined what?’

The rapper clambered into his hyung’s lap and buried his face into Jin’s shirt. ‘Ruined your birthday.’ Once he got that out, he continued to cry quietly, hiccupping slightly.’

Jin clutched the rapper who seemed so small. He rocked back and forth, running his hand through the boy’s platinum blond hair. ‘Yoongi, you didn’t ruin my birthday.’

Yoongi clearly didn’t believe him if his rapid head shaking was anything to go by.

‘No listen to me. Would I have rather not punished you? Yes.’ This caused the rapper to whimper. ‘But I would much rather do this and move on than pretend everything is ok when it’s not.’

‘But… aren’t you angry?’

Jin chuckled. ‘No. I mean I was pretty frustrated when you blew up but no, I'm not angry.’

‘But-’

‘No buts. You haven’t ruined anything ok?’

This seemed to finally calm Yoongi down. ‘Ok.’

Jin hummed. ‘You do need to apologise to everyone, especially Jungkook.’

‘I was a complete asshole hyung.’ Yoongi groaned. ‘He’s never going to forgive me. And he shouldn’t.’

‘Stop with the self-pitiying comments.’ Jin lightly reprimanded. ‘And Min Yoongi, you could kill someone and Jungkook would still forgive you. You know how much he looks up to you and besides, you’ve been punished. There is no way he won’t.’

He helped the rapper up off his lap and held back for a second as the rapper left the room, grabbing the little box that had started all of this in the first place.

Yoongi winced when he walked into the living room. The groups light banter had been filling it but when he walked in the room went dead silent. He knew that Tae and Jimin were sending him death glares but he ignored it and walked over to Jungkook who was sitting on the ground, in front of the tv. Sitting down, he looked the maknae in the eyes.

‘Jungkook-ah…I- I'm so sorry. I was in a bad mood all day and just snapped. That’s no excuse for what I said and I didn’t mean any of it. I am truly sorry but I completely understand if you don’t want to forgive me.’

As soon as the words left his mouth Jungkook attacked him with a hug so tight he could feel his ribs cracking.

‘It’s ok hyung! I'm sorry I broke your present…I just wanted you to have fun.’

‘Thank you Jungkookie.’

He then turned around to the other members. ‘Sorry I was such an ass all day.’

He was immediately met with a lot of “It’s ok hyung.” And “We forgive you hyung.”

Hoseok smirked noticing the older rapper squirm. ‘Hyung really lay into you, didn’t he?’

‘Don’t tease him.’ Jin told the dancer, sitting next to the rapper and maknae. ‘Can I see it?’ He asked showing the rapper the box.

Yoongi shrugged. ‘Sure, but I heard it crack.’

Jin nodded and carefully opened the box, letting out a quiet gasp. He took out the figurine. A beautiful blue glass whale, that fit perfectly in his palm. He held it up to the window and it sparkled like a sapphire. As he ran his fingers across it, he saw the giant crack that ran across it back.

‘Kinda looks like a “Y” doesn’t.’ Jungkook noted, looking over his hyung’s shoulder. And he was right, it did look like the English letter.

‘Guess it was fate huh Yoongi?’

Yoongi broke out into a big gummy smile. ‘Yeah.’

The rapper spent the rest of the day with his head in Jin’s lap as they had a long movie marathon, eating all the food they weren’t supposed to. As the credits of the final movie rolled on the screen, he noticed everyone had fallen asleep except for his hyung.

‘Still awake?’ The singer asked as he stretched.

‘Mhm.’

Jin smiled down at the younger boy and rubbed his shoulder fondly.

‘Today was pretty good you know.’ He said giggling softly at the rapper’s disgruntled huff.

‘Sleep is better.’ Yoongi mumbled eyes drooping, letting sleep finally overtake him, contentedly curled up next to his hyung.
