Chapter Text
Makoto frowns as he stands outside the school in front of him. The school honestly felt like a mix of Hogwarts and some sort of five-star collage. The dorms are on the left and on the right is the outside world, unbeknownst on what goes on inside the dark academia walls. There is a courtyard right before you go into the walls of the school. The walls were so silent no one can hear a single footstep, no one dared to speak about what goes in the walls on the outside. He wondered why. He steps into the middle of the courtyard where a fountain sits in front of him. There was a silent boy reading, sitting on the marble surface with a school bag leaning on the floor next to him.
The scene in front of him was almost ethereal. The other boy had hair messier than his own and a bit darker too, but what caught his eyes was the way the water seemed to accentuate the others strong, but cute features. When he looks up at Makoto he couldn’t stop staring at his eyes, almost like he held the entire moon inside the misty hazel eyes. The boy frowns a bit and looks back down at his book his body obviously tensing up. Now that he looks a bit more Makoto notices bruising on his tanned almost perfect skin. There was an attempt to hide them, but the other failed in many places.
Makoto wanted to talk to him, but before he could take a step forward someone bumped into his back causing him to jump. The girl behind him gave him a small smile before gabbing the few things that fell on the floor.
“I’m so sorry Ms.! I just... I was a little distracted-“ Makoto said trying to nervously defend himself while trying to not a complete fool of himself in the process.
The girl brushed away her light purple hair from her face with a slight smug look in it. When Makoto examined the rest of her features, he could tell she doesn’t go outside much judging by her pale complexion. The most interesting about her was her dark purple eyes however, which seemed to be covered in gentle clouds.
“Yeah, I could tell, but I wouldn’t recommend going up to that boy. It’s Hajime Hinata. You don’t want to be affiliated with the rumors that follow him like the plague,” The girl glances over to the fountain with a sad look on her face, as if she was hoping Makoto wouldn’t take her advice, or somehow she shouldn’t listen to her own.
“Rumors? What kind of rumors?” Makoto frowns a bit as he listens to the other’s words.
The girl frowns as she touches his shoulder, “It’s all but confirmed that he’s the principals little brother. The others say he bought himself into the school rather than take the test like everyone else. Even though there are papers about his test results, he never fights back to his bullies which makes many of them thinking they were forged.”
Makoto frowns when he hears the word bullies. Honestly, he feels like the real reason people avoid the other boy is that they’re all scared of the bullies. Makoto takes a deep breath before walking over to the other boy… before tripping on a branch and falling into the fountain. The other boy stares at the other in shock a bit before making a soft giggle. Honestly if Makoto wasn’t on the floor already, he would swoon right there.
“Need help?” The other boys voice was light as he held out his hand for the other. It was like he didn’t have any worry in the world at that moment with Makoto.
Makoto takes the others hand before shaking the wet off his uniform with a giggle. The other boy laughs as well as some water gets on his face and hair. The other boy shuts his book and puts it in his bag before turning back to Makoto.
“Who might you be clutsy?” The other boy smiles with no form of malice in his voice.
Makoto blushes softly before answering, “Um… Makoto Naegi… Nice to meet you pretty- I mean! Nice to meet you, you’re pretty nice!” He turns away and laughs a bit nervously.
“Hajime…. Hajime Hinata. I’m charmed.” He smiles and gives the other an unsurprisingly wet handshake.
Makoto beams with pride before pulling away from the other. He glances around the courtyard to find the silver haired girl gone. Honestly, that was no surprise seeing he can’t hear a footstep from any of the students around.
“It’s so quiet here you know. For a gifted school the entrance exam was a bit challenging. I would even call it hands on,” He laughs a bit.
The other boy looks at him surprised, “Don’t tell me you got accepted into the school without really knowing that was a front-“
“A front?” Makoto looks surprised. Hinata seemed pretty serious. He isn’t sure how to respond to it.
“This is a school to train spies Makoto. You’re going to be an international spy.”
Makoto looks up at the other with shocked and wide eyes… That’s what the school has been hiding this whole time? How- How was that even possible? He could be a spy? No- He will flunk out as soon as they find out he has no spy linage. There is no way they’ll let him stay! He looks at the other boy not sure what to do.
Hajime seems to sigh and take pity on him, gently putting a hand on his shoulder, “Look- as long as you pay attention to the classes and study you can make it as a spy. They don’t call this the best school for nothing. Russia has tried to copy us but haven’t gotten nowhere close to our results. You know?”
Makoto takes some deep breaths before glancing at Hajime, “Yeah alright… So, what should I know before stepping inside those halls?”
Hajime frowns and thinks for a moment, “Follow these rules. 1) Never tell your family what happens inside there. 2) First years, us, aren’t allowed to go on missions without approval and 3) If your life is at risk tell staff immediately if possible. Other than that, you should be good.”
Makoto repeats the words over and over again in his mind. He makes sure to remember them before thanking Hajime and walking into the quiet halls. He could probably hear a pencil drop in there if the students weren’t as meticulous as they are not to drop them.
He steps into his first class. It was homeroom and this strange man with short black hair and a lab coat was reading manga in the teacher’s desk. He looks like he should be a student honestly, but you can tell he was perhaps college age or maybe a little older. When everyone has sat in their seat he stands up.
“Welcome to Homeroom Brats. I’m Matsuda Yasuke, but I wont accept you calling me anything but Yasuke-Sensei. I’m only here teaching you because I owe Izuru a favor, so don’t expect me to be buddy buddy with you let alone some inspiring father figure. I will expel you if you’re not up to par,” He stares at the students, “Now. I expect you to show me what you got. Follow me to the training grounds”
The class follows the teacher wordlessly only giving each other passing worried glances. Makoto couldn’t help but worry… He was going to get kicked out on his first day!
~
Yasuke seemed to watch the students like a hawk grading them on every little small thing. Makoto held his breath as he avoids attacks and the other’s sights by pure luck. A pink haired girl on the sidelines seemed to watch him carefully writing down different notes. Her pink eyes seemed to have the stars in them as she smiles softly. At least he was impressing someone with his bumbling idiocy.
Yasuke walks over to Makoto his brow furrowing, “You have no training… you’re a bumbling idiot… but you passed based on luck alone. I haven’t seen this before since…. That student.” He seems to hiss, “I’ll keep an eye on you.”
He waves Makoto away and he sits next to the pink haired girl who did her training first. She smiles before speaking with a soft voice.
“Hi… It’s nice to meet you… I think,” The girl smiles.
“It’s nice to meet you as well ms-“
“Nanami, Chiaki Nanami. I’m charmed really.” She shakes Makoto’s hand, “You’re really talented for someone with no training… I think.”
Makoto watched as she yawns shutting her eyes, “Um… Thanks, I guess. You seem pretty nice…”
Chiaki smiles softly and nods, “You seem pretty nice as well. I’m glad you didn’t get expelled. This whole thing is how our class magically becomes half full…”
“Yasuke-Sensei seems very harsh… but I’m glad someone told me the ways of this school before I came.”
Chiaki nods, “You seem pretty smitten by this person… I think. He’s always on your mind no?”
Makoto blushes deeply, “I- Um- It’s not like- I… How did you know?”
She smiles, “You can tell me his name… I can tell you about him if you would like…”
“Hajime Hinata…. How did you know he was a he?”
She yawns a little, “Kyoko told me… We’re childhood friends.”
Makoto blushes embarrassed, “O-Oh I see. She must be the silver haired girl then”
Chiaki smiles a bit, “You should walk home with me and her. It will be fun really… I think”
Makoto smiles brightly, “Of course! I would love to.”
“Perfect… now about Hajime… he’s pansexual… single… and always attracting trouble though he never intends to… It’s his lineage you know?”
“It must be hard…. To have such big shoes to fill…” Makoto sighs thinking back to his first meeting with the other boy.
“I’m sure he would love someone like you to take care of him,” Chiaki smiles brightly.
“Okay that’s enough for today brats. Let’s go back inside.”
~
The school day hit Makoto like a brick. It was so much he was practically panting and sweating from all the classes. There were a few different teachers he had met, from Juzo to Chisa. They were all very eccentric for spies honestly. Makoto smiles as he meets up with the two girls. They welcome Makoto with open arms. They chat about what happened in school, but Makoto’s mind was on the boy walking a few blocks in front of them.
“Makoto? Are you listening?” Kyoko frowns glancing at the brunette next to her.
“Huh- Yeah something about Ms.Yukizome?”
Kirigiri nods and sighs, “She seems nice, but she insists we work together. We’re spies for crying out loud. Most of the time we’ll be working alone.”
Chiaki shakes her head, “There are times we will need those team building skills. Sure, we might work alone most of the time, but a lot of projects have us working duos.”
“There might even be some four person groups for the best results…” Makoto says before stopping a little.
Chiaki stops as well looking at Makoto confused, “Makoto-“
Makoto rushes up to a wall glancing behind it into the alleyway. The girls follow him and investigate it finally noticing the commotion.
“Shit- Is that Hajime?” Kyoko said looking at what’s happening in front of them.
Two men in masks had grabbed Hajime. The freshman student obviously did a number on the guys and fought back as best as he could, but the men were much more trained and skilled. They drugged him and were trying to put him in the truck of a black car.
“Shit- What do we do?” Chiaki says her voice slightly above a whisper.
“We’re freshmen Chiaki… We must go tell a teacher. We can’t do anything about this.” Kyoko said staring at the license plate her trained eyes remembering the numbers.
Makoto couldn’t help… He wanted to… He really did, but his lack of knowledge about the spy life was rearing its ugly head… As well as one other thing. His luck was always there to bite him in the ass.
“Well, well, well. What do we have here? Three little spies in training trying to spy on the big kids huh? Mad we stole their little friend…”
The three of them spin around in surprise. Kyoko breaths a curse word out of her mouth as they’re pushed into the sight of the other two men.
“Lookie here boys little Kamukura has himself a few friends,” The masked man pushing them into sight chuckles.
“Well, we can’t have them telling one of those stupid teachers about this huh? Gin. Do your thing.”
With that… The person behind them knocks them out with one hit.
