Work Text:

Creak

A door creaked open, and behind it was a beautiful blonde girl who looked a bit puzzled as to why the door was unlocked but decided to just shrug it off.

Immediately, she was hit with the cool breeze after opening the entrance to the rooftop. It was a sunny cloudless day, like the sky was letting those below it see it’s magnificent naked blue. She giggled at the thought.

‘She’d say something like that too..’ She smiles feeling nostalgia, reminiscing the fun memories she created on this same rooftop. There was also the girl whom never left her mind, she fell for that girl the moment she met her.

Two bags hung on her shoulder, her school bag and a bag that contained an instrument that meant a lot to her.

She took a few steps forward before sitting down on the warm floor.

Ziiiiip

Her fingers pinched the zipper of the bag that held the instrument and pulled down, opening the bag and pulling out her instrument.

A ukulele. A gift from someone.

There were multiple stickers on the ukulele, one she loved to stare at was the sticker of a detective dog as well as a shark with a big smile holding hands. It reminded her of the very same girl as earlier.

She gripped on the neck, tilting her head towards the cloudless sky. Her eyes looked as if it was longing for something and maybe, she looked up at the sky because it reminded her that the thing she longed for was as unreachable as the sky she was looking at.

But she didn’t know the answer to that.

Her eyes wandered back on the ukulele and prepared herself. Strumming a few chords, warming herself and then taking a deep breathe.

This song she was about to sing.. It was for that very same girl. She knew she’d never sing this to anyone but to herself but she kept practicing and singing this song. It confused her but came to accept another weird part of herself. “I sing myself a song that I made for a girl who doesn’t know I exist.” She’d thought out loud. Before pausing and giggling to herself at this abnormality.

Another breathe, and then the strumming began.

“Not long ago in my highschool days, I watched a girl from so far away…”

A blonde girl stared at the figure of someone in the distance, a short petite cutie. She had silver hair with blue streaks that reached just pass her shoulders. She had ocean like eyes that the blonde would love to drown in.

But no matter what she could do… She could never bring herself to talk to her.

“But everytime she passed me by, I turned my head away and quietly sighed.”

There were multiple chances that the blonde could talk to the silver haired girl, and yet she chose to look away. Embarrassed, it felt like a goddess walked by her.
After she’d walk by, she sighed to herself. Another chance she lost and wasted.

“And when she walked by her hair would dance, a secret tango that only I could understand.”

As the blonde would watch from the distance, she’d always notice how her silver hair would bounce at every step she took. The bounce of her hair, the humming of a random song, it felt like she was watching some kind of walking dance, and even as weird as it sounded, she was mesmerized and fell into the hole.

The blonde absolutely loved it.

“And when she asked me for the time of day, I look her in the eyes and quietly say…”

Finally, the time came and she finally was able to talk to the silver haired beauty she always admired from afar.

“Hey uh, can I as what time it is right now??” Asked the silver haired girl, looking shy and timid.

“Y-yeah sure!” The blonde cursed at herself in her head for stuttering. She then takes out her phone and checked the time.

“It’s about.. 12:42” Answered the blonde. Suddenly, the shorter girl’s face brightened up and a sigh of relief escapes from her mouth.

“So I’m early.. That’s good” That small giggle and relieved smile made the taller girl’s heart go all over the world.

‘How can someone be this cute..!?’ She thought.

“T-thank you for telling me. I’ll go on ahead” The silver haired girl smiles and waves before walking away.

The blonde placed a hand to her chest to try and stop her heart from beating so rapidly, but alas, she was unsuccessful.

She tilt’s her head up towards the ceiling and fantasized of what she could’ve done differently.

She fantasized of looking straight into the silver haired girl’s eyes and telling her feelings then and there.

“Oh, Gura, Gura. Do you have any clue who I am?”

“I like you, please go out with me” Confessed Amelia. Questioning herself as to why she was doing this when Gura probably had no idea of who she was.

Gura froze in place, her face red in embarrassment and surprise, before smiling and opening her mouth to reply.

“Listen up, cause I’ll tell you once and I’ll explain myself the best that I can.”

“B-but why??” Asked Gura, her face still red, but it had a very confused face on.

Amelia couldn’t help but giggle at the cute face in front of her.

“I don’t know how to tell you… But what I can explain really well though is that I like you for you.” Amelia smiles.

“Woah, Gura, Gura, you don’t know me so I’ll have to persist.”

Amelia whistled in Gura’s direction, Gura turning towards Amelia in surprise. Both of their faces reddened as their eyes locked onto each other.

Amelia had enough. And so, she finally gathered enough courage to be more bold and approach Gura more.

Gura smiles shyly, and Amelia as well, before nodding and turning her attention back to the teacher, Gura does the same, but not before looking at Amelia from the corner of her eye and smiling.

“Kinda shy, so no wonder why. Gura doesn’t know I exist.”

Even with the small advancements, Amelia still couldn’t get herself to walk straight to Gura and have conversations. Gura on the other hand, waited for Amelia, she was just as shy and timid, but both of them would look at the other longingly.

‘Do you really even know I exist?’ Amelia asks to herself, directing the question to Gura who’s back she was looking at.

“Past the class, I followed her. Let her tour leave her undisturbed.”

Amelia followed behind Gura with a certain distance. Gura was new to this school and Amelia wanted to help her tour. Sadly, she was still far too shy to reach out.

So instead, Amelia would follow her to protect Gura in the shadows.

“And if she ever stopped and turned around, I’d get so nervous I’d stare at the ground.”

Sometimes, Gura would turn her head and smiling a little before turning it back towards what was in front of her. Amelia would always look towards the ground everytime she saw the shift of Gura’s head that looked like she’d look behind.

‘Does she know I’m following her?’ Amelia thought, but she shook her head and continued following Gura from behind.

“Then one day in photography, I found a contact that I could not believe.”

Looking at the bulletin board, club invitations littered it. Amelia was specifically searching for the photography or a video club. Fortunately for her, the photography seemed to actually exist, and so, she turned her attention towards it and checking the quality of the sample photo’s stuck onto the paper.

Her eyes widened.

“And there she was staring back at me,”

There, one of the photo’s was Gura, it was Gura looking right at her busy self from the time of the picture.

Her heart skipped a beat.

“And so I took her up so quietly.”

She gulped and hurriedly joined the photography club to get a copy of that specific picture.

“ahh..”

“Gura, Gura, do you have any clue who I am? Listen up cause I’ll tell you once and I’ll explain my self the best that I can woah…”

Amelia tries and tries again, but she couldn’t reach the tip, she didn’t have the courage and bravery. And so, she fell again.

“Gura, Gura, you don’t know me so I’ll have to persist.”

Amelia reaches out, but she can’t reach Gura. She can’t be with her?

“Kinda shy so no wonder why, Gura doesn’t know I exist.”

Amelia puts her hand to her chest, balling it into a fist in frustration.

‘If only… If only I was different.’

Amelia inhales the fresh air, her strumming slowing down as she approaches the last verse.

“nine nineteen zero seven.”

It was autumn, plenty of cool breezes hit Amelia’s skin as she walked towards the video store to borrow a movie she had her eyes set on.

She looked forward to it, it was a movie she had heard Gura talk so much about and so, it peaked her interests.

“Spend a day that I come to hate”

She was happy, she looked forward to it, maybe she could finally reach out for Gura and talk about the movie once she’s finished it.

“As I walked into, that video store.”

Stepping inside the store, she glances around, her smile wide and her eyes shining in excitement.

“There she stood as my jaw fell to the floor”

And then, her eyes landed towards the cashier where she spots familiar silver hair.

“Tapping her toe”

She looked to be bored.

“And waiting in line”

Gura sighs, bringing her hand up to look at her phone.

“With a movie and Ina by her side.”

Gura then turns to the taller girl beside her and complains a little. Ina giggled and pokes fun at the shorter girl.

“Why did I bother?”

Amelia stood frozen in pain, her heart shattered in a million pieces.

“Why did I care?”

Putting a hand to her chest and gripping on her clothing, stifling in a sob.

“About this girl named.. Gawr Gura?”

She turns around, her wide smile replaced with a large frown. She couldn’t take it anymore and so she ran away, far away. Away to where? She didn’t care.

“Gura, Gura”

But as she kept running, she hears footsteps behind her, running and following her.

“Amelia!” The familiar sweet voice she loved calls out to her.

“Why do you know who I am?”

Amelia turns her head around to see Gura’s worried face, tears in her eyes. The blonde immediately stops running and runs to the silver haired girl.

“You reached me so please don’t cry.”

Worriedly, Amelia captures the girl in a hug before Gura hit the ground from weak knees in an effort to comfort her.

Gura sobs onto Amelia’s shoulder.

“Please.. Stop crying?” Amelia asks, unsure of what to do. She had never been the best at things like this.

“And I’ll hug you as softly as I can”

“I don’t- I don’t know why…” Gura tries to say in between her sobs. “But I just don’t want you like this.”

Amelia is stunned, Gura know’s who she is?

“Woah, Gura, Gura.”

”E-everything is alright, I’m alright Gura, I’m alright” Amelia whispered, rubbing Gura’s hair gently. Gura tightened their embrace and sobbed even more.
“Another try to cross off my list.”

“Amelia…” Gura called out. “Please…”

“Don’t leave me”

“In another life it could’ve been worse”

”I-I won’t”

“Promise?”

“Promise.”

Gura pulls away slightly, and smiles. Both not minding the tear streaks on her cheeks.

“Amelia…”

“…”

“I like you” And so Gura closed the gap between them.

“But now I know Gura does know I exist.”

Amelia strums the last chord and sighs in relief. Suddenly, someone claps from behind the building entrance of the rooftop. A breeze passes by them and she spots familiar silver strands of hair dancing in the wind.

“Gura??” Amelia calls out, confused and happy. She placed her ukulele down gently and approached her.

“Hmmmm~ I wonder if it’s Gura~” Said Gura, Amelia giggles.

She reaches the corner and…

Bam!

Amelia quickly turns the corner sharply and captures Gura into her arms.

“Stinkyy! You smell like the sun! How long have you been out here for???” Amelia snuggled close to the shorter girl.

“I only smell like a sun cause my girlfriend is my sunshine but as for the last question, I’ve been waiting for you” Amelia tilts her head confusedly.

Gura turns her head and peck’s Amelia’s lips, earning a red faced blonde in return.

“Hehe.”

“You always come to the rooftop at this hour before coming down again to meet up with the others.”

“Oh my God, Gura has a brain to notice this!?”

“H-hey!” Gura pouted and Amelia giggled before pressing her lips onto Gura’s forehead.

“I’m kidding, I just got used to my little sharky being a lovable dumbass”

“I-I’m still a lovable dumbass!”

Amelia gives a smug smile to Gura’s confession.

“Wait shit I- Let’s just go you dum” Gura sighs but bursts out laughing.

“Mmmhm~”

“I guess you really do know I exist”

“Bitch you wouldn’t be my girlfriend if I didn’t”

“fair enough”

“I don’t know much things here and there But..”

“but?”

“Amelia?”

“Yes sharky?”

Gura takes a step forward and gives Amelia a long kiss.

Only parting to whisper a few words.

“But I do know you exist, her in my heart”

And then Gura turns around and began walking away from the stunned Amelia who was a blushing mess.

“H-hey! Come back here-“

“Come on you dumb the others are waiting!”
