Work Text:
Kouga sighed, stretching off the couch and making his way to the kitchen. The heatwave this year was stifling. Coupled with the fact that their air conditioner had broken, he and Kagome were relaxing on the couch in the simplest of clothing: him in shorts, her in a shirt of his that she’d long ago pilfered from his closet.
He padded on bare feet towards the refrigerator, scratching idly at his bare chest as he did so. He pulled open the freezer and frowned.
Both hands went inside as he pushed past bags of peas and hunks of meat, trying and failing to find the treat he wanted.
“Kagome,” he called out, turning to glance in her direction, “did you move the ice cream?”
Kagome, who had splayed out on the couch, and was texting on her cellphone looked up towards him.
“Ice cream?” She asked, making a face before her blue eyes widened. “Oh, that! I ate it all yesterday.”
Kouga stared at her, then shut the freezer when it began beeping. He crossed his arms against his chest, leaning against the refrigerator.
“You ate it all?” He questioned incredulously.
Kagome nodded, going back to her phone. “Yep. There’s none left, sorry. You’ll have to go get some from the konbini if you want some.”
Kouga marched over, snatching the cellphone from her hands.
“Kagome,” he began slowly, “what do you mean there’s no ice cream left? I bought 5 pints yesterday!”
Kagome made a futile effort to grab her cellphone, sighing and leaning back into the cushions when she realized Kouga was unwilling to give it back. She crossed her arms across her chest, pouting.
“I mean, there is no ice cream left.” She told him. “I ate it all.”
Kouga leapt over the couch startling her into a squeak. She pushed her legs off onto the floor. Kouga snagged her hand pulling her closer, the action gentle despite its brashness.
“Kagome.” He poked her stomach smiling when she squealed and made to pull away. She always had been ticklish there. “Are you telling me that this tiny stomach ate 5 pints of ice cream?”
He tickled her again, laughter of his own spilling forth as she giggled and squirmed. He relented finally, and she sighed, leaning against him, one hand coming up to trace idle patterns on his chest.
“I’m sorry.” She said after a while. “For eating all the ice cream.”
Koga shrugged, the action jostling her slightly.
“It’s okay. We can always go out in the evening to get some more later.”
Kagome pulled away from him a bit, blue eyes wide. “Really?”
Koga nodded, though he did reach up with one hand to poke her in the forehead. She batted his hand away with a half-hearted glare.
“Really.” He assured her. “Just you know, this time, maybe I’ll make sure you don’t eat all five pints.”
Kagome threw a pillow at him, and he caught it with a laugh, her own giggles joining in.
