Don't Call me "Dude"

Summary:

Stiles is sidelined on a full moon. Derek is having too much fun with his newly acquired full shift.

Notes:

Greetings & Salutations!

Dude, when I saw this week's prompt, I thought, "Hell, this is going to be easy!" I was very, very, very wrong. There are now two partially written stories that never would've gotten completed on time in my WIP folder due to this prompt. Then, last minute, I came up with this. I don't even know what to say about it, but I hope you enjoy it anyway.

Big, huge, massive thanks to Marie for the fastest beta in the world. I went to sleep and woke up five hours later and it was done. You are amazing and I don't know what I did to deserve you, but I am so very grateful.

xx-Joey

Don't know 'em. Don't own 'em. Don't show 'em.

Work Text:

Stiles watched the wolf as it raced through the trees, chasing something that he couldn’t see. The full moon hung high in the sky and he heard the rest of the pack roughhousing nearby. A few moments later, the wolf came out from between the trees and stood watching Stiles.

“All good, big guy,” Stiles said, patting the cast on his arm. Normally, he’d be out there doing his best to keep up with the rest of the pack but after the last big bad battle, he’d been sidelined.

The wolf came to sit next to him. “Go,” Stiles told him. The other side effect of the last battle had been Derek discovering his ability to full shift. Unfortunately, Derek seemed to like the form a little too much and spent more time in it than out of it these days. “You gonna change back?”

Derek laid down and put his head in Stiles’ lap with a whimper, nose pressing against the cast. Sighing, Stiles scratched between his ears. “It’s not your fault, dude.” Derek growled. “Sorry, dude. You want me to stop calling you ‘dude’ you just have to use your words and tell me.” Stiles grinned. “Dude.”

Huffing, Derek rose to his feet and disappeared through the slightly open door of the house. Stiles returned to watching out for the others, jumping when footsteps sounded behind him. Stiles yelped when Derek picked him up in his arms and started heading into the trees. Stiles did his best to hold on with one arm as Derek picked up speed, the noises of the pack growing closer.

“Don’t call me ‘dude,’” Derek said, smirking when Stiles threw his head back with laughter that soon turned into a howl that was echoed by the pack and finally Derek.
