Moony and Paddy

Work Text:

“Bye Prongslet, have a good day!” Said Sirius as he affectionately ruffled Harry’s black hair that Remus had tried and failed to tame again that morning.

Three-year-old Harry happily toddled towards Emily, the preschool teaching assistant, waving at Sirius as he went.

“Good morning, Harry, do you remember where your coat peg is?”

Harry answered with an enthusiastic nod, his fringe bobbing on his head and his round glasses falling down his nose.  Emily smiled at the young boy and sent him off to hang up his coat and book bag, with instructions to sit at the blue table once he had completed the task.

“What we doing?” Asked Harry, once he arrived at the blue table.  As usual, mornings in the Lupin-Black household were chaotic and Harry was late to preschool again, so was the last to arrive at the table.

“We are going to draw pictures for our loved ones this morning, using pens, pencils, crayons and paints.  It is important to think carefully about what you are going to draw before you start.” Explained Emily.

Harry furrowed his brow, trying to think of what his Moony and paddy would want a picture of, eventually he decided that he would draw the beach and he got to work.

“Oh, Harry, that's lovely, and who are you colouring this picture for?” Asked Emily

"My Moony and paddy.” Explained Harry, Emily chuckled slightly at Harry’s explanation.

“Do you mean your mummy and daddy?” Emily was shocked at the eye roll and subsequent glare she received from the young child with the brightest green eyes she had ever seen.

“Moony. And. Paddy.” Explained Harry, Emily moved to reprimand Harry for his manners and tone of voice but was interrupted again.

“Moony and Paddy love me more than all the fish in the sea, all the sand on all of the beaches AND all of the waves in the ocean.   My mummy and daddy love me the same but they are stars in the sky now so Moony and paddy have to love me even more!”

Emily smiled at the young boy despite the tears now clouding her own eyes and happily reaffirmed Harry’s picture.

“I’m sure Moony and paddy will love the picture.  I think you mummy and daddy would too.”

Harry smiled up at Emily with big green eyes and a massive grin on his face.
