Languish

Summary:

It was a really, really hot Saturday, and most of the school was outback, enjoying the sun, not caring about the heat, and having the time of their life.

Everyone but Bobby, of course, who was melting away.

“I just want to remind everyone that I make ice. I am the Ice Man. I am not built for the heat and soon enough I’m going to melt away into nothing.”

Work Text:

“This is terrible.”

Bobby sighed loudly, blowing out a breath through his nose as he stretched out his back and tried to ignore the way he was melting.

“You’re fine, Bobby!” Warren muttered. He was in the lawn chair beside Bobby’s, but while Bobby’s seat was firmly planted in the shade, Warren was reclining in the sun.

In the burning hot sun.

Bobby let his head fall to the right so he could take in Warren’s sparsely clothed frame. He was wearing a very small pair of swimming trunks that were a very bright gold and absolutely nothing else. His wings were draped across the grass under the lawn chair he was leaning back against, and his face was tilted up towards the sun.

He was tanning, and apparently that meant he had to lie around in what amounted to underwear, covered in a thin sheen of sweat that made him look like he was glowing and ethereal.

It was ridiculous.

Bobby didn’t look away.

“Heat not too bad,” Piotr called from the picnic table. He was sitting across from Jimmy and the two of them were… doing whatever it is they did together these days. “Pool brings cool water!”

He was also not wearing a shirt, which Jimmy seemed to appreciate even more than Bobby did. Piotr and Jimmy were a thing that Bobby was not questioning, ‘cause he was pretty sure Jimmy didn’t have a case of hero-worship, which meant it was something else. He was actually pretty sure Piotr was the one doing the worshipping, which… not the worst thing to think about, but not when he was laying outside. Instead, he focused back on something mindless, like Piotr’s shirtless body.

Piotr had some seriously impressive arms. And a seriously impressive chest. And very wide shoulders, which were also seriously impressive. And, ya know, seriously hot.

On the other side of the pool, the professor was fondly watching the volleyball tournament. Magneto—because calling him Erik just seemed wrong even though they were somehow all on the same side—was laying in the grass next to the professor, and Bobby totally hadn’t pouted when he’d lied down and his view had been taken away. Mr. McCoy was keeping judge of the game, and Bobby’s eyes trailed over to his shirtless form a few times throughout the match even if he didn’t care who was winning.

“Can’t you just make yourself some to cool off with, then?” Warren asked, a knowing look on his face when Bobby looked over and didn’t even pretend to look anywhere but his abs.

“It would melt. It would melt away into nothing just like me,” Bobby said seriously. He ignored the way Warren snorted at him.

He was pretty, but he was walking a thin line.

“Baby, you’re being dramatic,” John scolded, his voice appearing out of nowhere, and then he straddled Bobby’s lawn chair and plopped onto his stomach.

Bobby grimaced when water soaked into his shorts. They weren’t swimming trunks, since he wasn’t a huge fan of using the pool when the others were playing volleyball. John was, and his team had just won a round if the way he’d crowed with victory only a few minutes ago was indication enough.

Bobby looked up, and promptly forgot what he was going to say.

John was also shirtless, and in a pair of shorts just as small as the ones Warren was wearing. John’s trunks were bright blue and decorated with little white snowflakes, which made something in Bobby’s stomach swoop low and incredibly pleased. He was shirtless, the scars along his chest still a little red but not at all out of place when half the men in the backyard were also covered in scars, albeit scars that had been earned differently.

John being shirtless around others was still something pretty new, but Bobby was not complaining. There was a trail of hair that led up his belly, and Bobby traced it with his finger, stopping at the hem of his shorts (since they were outside and all).

“You’re not gonna melt, Bobs,” John told him, and then he gave Bobby a sweet, lingering kiss.

While the kisses totally made it better, John’s body was warm, and it was—

“Jons, it’s literally so hot,” Bobby complained, laying back but trailing his hands up John’s thighs.

“It’s really not, you’re just sensitive to the heat,” John whispered, and didn’t move away.

Since he was there, Bobby kissed him again. He let it drag out longer this time, ignoring the way Warren was laughing at them. They’d been together for long enough that everyone had seen them make out before, and it wasn’t like some of the other couples were any better. Sure, Bobby and John were a little different in the sense that Bobby was pretty sure they were going to get married one day and a lot of the other couples came and went, but that was an even better reason to trade kisses in the sun.

John kissed him until he couldn’t breathe, and then Bobby stole a few more before he pulled away.

“You can go inside if you need to,” John told him, giving him another sweet kiss. “I won’t be offended.”

“What? No way!” Bobby protested, rubbing little circles into John’s hip bones. “I have to watch you win.”

“You are ridiculous, babe.” John laughed at him, but gentled it by kissing his nose. “You’re not even watching the game.”

“Yes I am.”

“Uh, no, Bobs, you’re literally just watching the view.”

Bobby was silent for a second, but then, “That might be true, but I plead the fifth.”

John snorted at him, but his eyes were soft. Bobby leaned up to give him another quick kiss.

“Why don’t you go cool down and bring me out more water?” John asked, pushing himself off the chair and tugging Bobby to his feet.

Bobby pressed a kiss to his forehead, happy for the inch of height he held.

“Thank you for saving me from my misery,” Bobby told him seriously. “It’s too hot.”

John snorted and shooed him away, and then slapped his ass when he turned towards the school. Bobby was not complaining, too excited to go cool down.
