This Life | Thomas Thorne

Summary:

Thomas answers a question about what comes after death

Work Text:

Death was a funny thing, especially when you didn’t feel dead. The few moments when (Y/N) (L/N) woke up in the morning were her favourite. It was a time where she wasn’t dead, she felt normal in those few moments until she opened her eyes to find herself in the same house she had been confined to for years; in the same clothes that has been stained with her blood; in the same place she had died in.

It was a daily ritual at this point for her to reach her hand across the duvet to see if this was the day; the day she wouldn’t just pass through it and as always, she was left disappointed with the results. She didn’t know why she bothered; nothing changes anymore, not when you’re a ghost.

Standing up, she made her way to the window to look over the gardens. She always loved playing in the garden’s when she was younger. Her father used to bring (Y/N) with him when he had business at Button House, it was strange the think the ghosts who resided here knew about her all this time.

“A penny for your thoughts,” Thomas’ voice said, bringing (Y/N) out of her thoughts.

(Y/N) turned to face the man she had fallen ever so in love with. One of the few joys to her eternal death was the poet who had found love in her also. Thomas had always been to kind and understanding towards (Y/N). He stood by her, enjoying her good days, and comforting her on the bad ones. He remembered how alone he felt in his death, and he swore to himself on the day the first properly met that he wouldn’t allow her to feel that same loneliness.

“What do you think happens once we move on?”

“Whatever do you mean, my love?”

(Y/N) sighed. “Do you think we find peace? Or do you think there is nothing beyond this?”

“I am not overly sure,” Thomas reached out, taking (Y/N)’s hand and bringing up to his lips to kiss it, “I do know that I want to experience it with you. No matter how good or bad the future is, I know if I hold your love in my heart, everything will turn out for the better.”

(Y/N) laughed as she stepped towards Thomas, “I see why you were a poet now. That sentiment is lovely.”

Thomas pulled (Y/N) into his arms, murmuring words of comfort to her. He knew nothing of what would happen once they move on from this life, but he knew he could face anything with his (Y/N) by his side.
