Work Text:
Thomas remembers the day he met Alison's sister, (Y/N), it was as if the world has aligned to bring them together; he felt that they were destined to meet. Alison had to have a near death experience to see the ghosts but not (Y/N) and he couldn't figure out why.
It was a few months later when he found out: she was dying.
She had some sort of breathing difficulties, it was called something that Thomas couldn't even begin to comprehend, and had suffered ever since she was young. It had gotten worse as she grew older.
Alison had offered for (Y/N) to come to stay with her and Mike when she couldn't keep living on her own. Thomas had begun to think back to that day often. He had given her the tour of the grounds.
-----
"And this is the library and my sighing corner." He said as he led her into the room.
"Sighing corner?" (Y/N) laughed as she walked over to the window Thomas had gestured at. "Why do you need one of those?"
"I have found it quite useful actually."
It was one of Thomas's fondest memories. It cheered him up when (Y/N) had one of her bad days. Days when she couldn't move from being in so much pain.
One of Thomas' worst memories happened just two days ago when one of (Y/N)'s doctors came for a home visit to review her condition. Alison had told him to give (Y/N) some privacy, but the sick girl insisted he stayed.
-----
"I'm sorry Miss (L/N)," The doctor had begun, looking rather sombre, "there isn't much more we can do. You have a pneumothorax; usually, we would arrange a transplant, but in your condition, you wouldn't survive the surgery."
(Y/N) looked down, she knew what this meant, but she needed to hear it for herself. "What are-" She interrupted herself coughing before continuing "What are my options?"
"There isn't much we can do."
"I'm going to die." It wasn't a question.
"We are trying to postpone that for as long as possible."
"How long do I have?"
The doctor sighed, this part was the hardest part fo their job. "If we place you on oxygen immediately, a month, maybe two at a stretch."
"And if I refuse?"
"Miss (L/N), I strongly suggest you consider-"
(Y/N) cut him off. "And if I refuse?"
"Days."
"Thank you, Doctor."
-----
Thomas knew what came next, (Y/N) was going to die. As much as he wanted to spend his forever with her, he hated that she was willingly trapping herself in her fate when she could choose to live a little longer. But he was powerless in this situation so all he could do was wait for her.
