Loki was raised as the Prince of Asgard. He had known his entire life that he was and Asgardian royal. Until one day he wasn’t. He went from the Son of Odin, Brother of Thor to an orphan who was abandoned in battle. He wasn’t a prince, but the thing he had been taught to hate: a frost giant.
That was the first time Loki had felt helpless.
It was a feeling he wished never to experience again. The hole in his chest he knew nothing could repair. It was awful but he could do nothing or he could fight it. And he did. Loki fought the only way he knew how: with magic, lies and deceit.
It was only when his wife, (Y/N), came to him, begging him to stop did he realise what he had done.
That was the second time he had felt helpless.
But this time, he had caused this feeling to himself. He had isolated himself, sending anyone away who got near to him. Except from his wife. His wife, his (Y/N) stayed. And that’s why she loved him, she always stayed.
The third time that Loki had felt helpless was the worst; it was the day (Y/N) died.
She had returned from Earth mere hours before Asgard had fell. Heimdall had said an Avenger needed some assistance, (Y/N), as always, had been more than happy to help.
When she had gotten back, Hela was reigning over Asgard as it’s citizens tried to escape her regime of torture and misguidance. (Y/N) fought valiantly and had succeeded, but not without injury to herself.
“You should’ve been more careful, my love.” Loki had chided her as he tended to his wounds.
“I am more than familiar with a battle scar, I am fine, Loki.”
“I hate to see you hurt.”
It was not even a day after Asgard had fallen did Thanos strike the refugee ship, slaughtering them like animals in an abattoir.
When he came, (Y/N) was in no fighting state. So when Thanos grabbed her by the neck, she looked over to her husband and pleaded with him. Loki understood what she meant, he understood his wife better than anything in the nine realms.
The last thing (Y/N) saw was Loki reveal the tesseract.
As her body hit the ground, Loki lunged towards Thanos in a fit of rage. He never reached the Titan as Thanos had used the newly acquired stone against him.
Loki had only felt helpless three times in his life. And he never would again.
