Work Text:

right and wrong are relative terms.

they have their definitions - describing them as pure opposites - antonyms. they have their connotations of good and evil and they have marked a place in the world. but what if they didn’t exist? what if right and wrong were merely ruses to keep you from the truth?

the line between the unrealistic statures is blurred, woolly and torn, and almost indecipherable to those who look upon it with a rabid curiosity. the line is so fuzzy. people spend their whole lives trying to find it, search for these made-up rules that man created for themselves.

because that’s what they are. rules.

if you do something considered to be wrong, you’re punished.

while if you do something right, you’re rewarded.

but what if someone told you they were one and the same. right and wrong, that is.

you wouldn’t believe them. that would go against everything you’ve ever learned - and by nature you want this to be easy. you want this to stay the same, never change because it’s the one thing in life that anchors you to the ground. knowing you are living with the right choices. and yet as you say this you disobey these rules you’ve created. these silly morals that you swear to live by.

these trivial words hold so much power over you that they almost split you up into who you want to be and who you think you should be. pressuring you to do what it thinks is right - to deny your human urges to be selfish. lookout for yourself.

right and wrong don’t exist - only choices do.

choices exist.

you know this better than anyone.

throughout your life, you’ve made a collection of choices - each leading you done a cracked cobblestone, blinking street light, twisty winding road. some led you to pure good. and some led you to darkness. but neither led you the right way. and neither led you the wrong way.

at ten years old you made a choice - a choice to survive. go with the group who promised you food and water and a place to sleep all for the prince of a few spells here and there to help them earn money. most people considered this wrong. but for you - living was the right choice.

at sixteen you made a choice - a choice to have freedom. leave the group and work solo in a world of people who hunted you for not following their made-up morals.

at seventeen you made a choice - a choice to love. work with the person you loved and give up the life you’ve been taught. that didn’t make you good. it made you human.

for right and wrong may not exist. but love surely does.
