“i love you,” the words strike you like a slap. ice cold and a sizzling burn all at the same time. it stings and pinches and kneads at the skin till it’s red and tuckered out, too tired to fight but too angered to care. it hasn’t always been like this. hasn’t been fueled by fire and lust and hatred and spite. once upon a time, it was soft, caring, and gentle. with butterfly kisses during bed and held hands while making love. making love. but you haven’t done that in a long time. you’d only had sex lately, rough and angry sex - using each other as stress relievers instead of showing that same adoration you used to feel.
something had changed. the dates became less frequent, the drinks became daily. his revenge was all that occupied the pretty little head on his pretty little shoulders. perhaps in the past, you carried the place of his love, but now it was all about killing and killing and blood stains and booze breath.
you tried to be there for him, god you tried so hard. tried to clean off his bloody and busted lips and bury all the worry deep inside for your tears in the shower later. but the shower was stained red and your hands were dusted with innocent people’s last moments.
