Chapter Text
It was a dark night, silence prevailed in the city. In a room above a rarely used bakery a green light flashed as a girl dropped down onto her bed. “Another day another citizen helped.” Marinette muttered with a smile.
“Yup, another truly good day.” Plagg muttered while floating to grab his cheese.
“Hey it’s always good to help people.” Marinette gave the kwami a smile. Plagg flew by her desk before stopping near the calendar and let out a sigh.
“Is something the matter?” Trixx questioned from near the still in development Cube. The orange fox had been traveling with them for the patrols and had apparently stopped being shocked when she went out and didn’t kick puppies and tripped old ladies.
Plagg looked between Marinette and Trixx before speaking. “Nothing I just remembered, I forgot to dunk my cheese in nacho cheese.” Marinette let out a little laugh before scratching his head.
“Alright I’m just going to go to bed.” With that the girl went to bed.
“So what’s the truth?” Trixx asked with a raised eyebrow.
Plagg didn’t respond right away just letting out an annoyed huff. “Did they forget again? How could I have forgotten again? Hopefully she doesn’t remember.”
“Alright seriously what is going on?”
“Today was Bread’s birthday.” With that Trixx’s jaw fell open. It was the girls birthday but nobody mentioned it! Weren’t birthdays something big to celebrate? How could someone just forget it? Wait, speaking of birthdays.
“Where is her kwagatama?”
“Her what?” Plagg questioned while scratching his head in confusion.
“Kwagatama, you know the gift EVERY kwami gives to their users? Well except for…” Looking at Plagg Trixx cleared his throat before looking Plagg in the eye. “Point is if she is truly a good user then you would have given her a Kwagatama.”
“... Well if you put it like that then I have to give her one.” Plagg continued giving Trixx a flat look. “Now if you be so kind as to tell me what a kwagatama is and how to make it.”
“You don’t know?” Trixx asked, honestly confused.
“Should I? I haven’t even heard that word until you mentioned it.”
Trixx just stared at the other kwami in confusion while trying to figure out how Plagg didn’t know what a kwagatama was. After Tikki had explained the concept to them every kwami had been on board. Yeah Trixx had been a little upset that he hadn’t had the opportunity to give one to his first wielder but after that. In fact having a kwagatama was a symbol of prestige in the order… Oh, yeah, Plagg wasn’t there when Tikki explained her idea. “Kwagatama are made from the hair of past users and held together with magic.” Trixx flew over to the white board and with a marker started drawing.
“Can it be made with just one hair or should I gather up more of Breads?”
“Do you not have any of your past users?”
“Why would I want reminders of them?” Plagg’s acidic tone shocked Trixx for a second before he remembered just who they were talking about.
“If there was even one reminder of Cath Palug then I would burn them myself.” Trixx felt some rage as he remembered that user.
“Yup, now should I start raiding her hair brush?”
“No, you should only need one. The magic you infuse it with should take care of the rest.” Trixx demonstrated by showing off one of Marinette’s hairs before swallowing it.
“So how long should this take?” Plagg questioned while eating his own strand of hair. “Wait, why are you making one?”
“I told you each kwami makes one for their users. How long do you think it will take before she decides to use my miraculous?” Plagg glared at the fox who let out a hum in thought. “As for how long, about a few months.”
“Well guess Bread isn’t getting it for this birthday.” Plagg muttered before relaxing against a yarn ball.
“Yeah,” Trixx let out a sigh before looking at the bed in resignation. “Sucks that she isn’t getting a present.”
“Oh I wouldn’t be too concerned about that.” Plagg looked around the empty room with a bit of interest. “Long ears should be stopping by soon.”
“Long ears?” Trixx questioned before jumping as a blue portal appeared in the corner of the room. “What the!”
From the portal walked out a woman with short pink hair and blue/white rabbit ears. The woman wore a primary black suit with highlights of blue. Not seeming to see the kwami were there, or not caring the rabbit user (for what else could she be) walked over to Marinette.
“Hey little kitten,” the woman stroked the girl’s cheek with a fond smile, “got you something. I mean it’s only fair, you got me all those presents.” Reaching into her umbrella the miraculous user pulled out a wrapped present. “I think you will really like this one. I’ll just put it on your desk like usual.”
“Hey fluffy butt how are you doing?” Plagg greeted the woman who gave him a frown.
“Plagg, when are you going to get my name right?” Trixx felt his jaw hanging open as the hero talked with the black kwami.
“When you deserve to be called it.” Plagg gave a non committal shrug. Trixx watched in interest as the miraculous user seemed to deflate a bit with a sad look on her face.
“Yeah that’s fair.” With that she put the present down without much energy.
“No, I’m sure you’ve done a lot of good! You have the rabbit miraculous.” Trixx injected the woman to look at him for a second in confusion.
“Trixx you're here, then that means…” The girl's eyes seemed to tear up in sadness. “It’s starting and I can’t do anything about it.”
“Hey, fluffy butt something the matter?” Plagg muttered only for the woman to sniffle as she ran back to the portal. “Alix, don’t worry we will take care of her.” That seemed to stop her for a moment.
“I know you will. But what’s coming… I,” A hiccup was heard before she stepped through the portal, “I felt so helpless and useless during those times.” With that the portal closed leaving two kwamis behind.
“Come on, let's go to bed.” Plagg suggested because both kwami knew better than to question what would happen in the future. If Fluff wouldn’t tell them in the past then neither would her useres. But both didn’t like the time travelers' reaction. It spoke ill omens of what was to come.
