Cheshire: Early Discovery

Summary:

Cheshire AU: For Want of a nail that takes place after Chapter 3. Emilie due to a coughing attack reviles her identity to the nice cat.

Chapter Text

Cheshire held the tome she had just received tight in her hands as Bella continued coughing. Something in her mind told her that the cough wasn’t normal, that it was caused by something related to the miraculous. But should she say something about it? Heroes help those in need, heroes don’t hesitate. “Are, um, is this, can I?” Bella looked at her in confusion before the cat hero took a deep breath. “Is there any way I can help you with your miraculous?”

Bella stared in slight shock at the other miraculous user who shifted a bit uncomfortably. The peacock user was slightly conflicted about how much she could really trust the person in front of her. Apparently she had taken too long because another bout of coughing ravaged her body. Two hands grabbed and helped hold her as spots formed in vision due to lack of air. When Bella went to stand her legs gave out and Cheshire tightened her hold on the older woman to keep her somewhat standing. It was at that moment that Emilie realized she couldn’t make her way home by herself. “I need to get home.”

“Oh, should, should I let go? Can you make your way home by yourself?” Cheshire frantically asked the actress who only gave a fond smile to the cat.

“Sadly no I can’t. I hate to ask but could you help me?” The silly kitty looked at her in shock before giving a nod. Deciding not to tax herself any farther the Agreste let her transformation go.

“Wee! Oh that was fun Emilie! So did you…” Duusu began in his typical excited way only to stop and stare in horror at something.

“Duusu, is something wrong?” Emilie questioned a bit concerned.

“Oh to think my user would wind up in the hands of the black cat! Oh what will happen to me when she is done with you!” Duusu shifted from horrified to scared in an instant.

“What? I’m just taking her home.” Cheshire looked confused at the kwami who just blinked.

“Really?”

“Yes, Cheshire agreed to help me home.” Emilie informed the blue kwami who blinked in confusion.

“Oh are we teaming up with the cat! Will we have-” Whatever else he was about to say was cut off as Emilie took off her miraculous.

“Sorry about them, I think they’re like that due to their miraculous being damaged.” The actress watched as the girl’s eyes widened.

“D-damaged? Your miraculous is damaged?” Cheshire looked lost but her body acted almost on autopilot. Emilie felt as she was picked up and carried away.

“You’ll need to go over that way.” Emilie pointed towards the mansion before continuing on. “And yes when I found the miraculous it was damaged.”

“Is that why you are sick?” Cheshire asked after awhile her voice barely a whisper.

“Yes, it is a side effect of me using a broken miraculous. Unfortunately I didn’t find out about it until after two transformations.” Emilie felt her eyes go dim as she remembered when her first coughing fit had occurred. Nooroo had apparently tried to warn them but Gabriel always shut him down. Now she was paying the price for both of their eagerness to harness the powers of the miraculous.

“I see.” Cheshire was quiet for the rest of the journey before stopping on a roof overlooking the mansion. “So you're hoping that there is some sort of cure in the spellbook?”

Gesturing for Cheshire to put her down Emilie got out of her hands with a sigh. “Yes, I’m hoping that there is a cure for me.” Looking down at the young girl Emilie let out a chuckle at her. “Well you know where to find me. If you can translate it please let me know.” Emilie looked at the cat girl for a moment longer before walking forward. She knew that she would need to get creative to deceive Gabriel about why she was out so late. Even if the ending wasn’t the best, the user of the peacock had hope that Cheshire would come through for her.

“So Duusu is damaged?” Plagg questioned as Bread sat staring at the journal she was using to translate. “Wonder how that happened.”

“I don’t know but Bella said it was broken when she found it.”

“And do you believe her?”

“...” Bread flipped a page in the journal before staring forward. “Plagg?” An unnatural seriousness was showing on the young girl. “Duusu was scared of me. They started screaming when they saw me.”

Plagg froze for a second before letting out a sigh. “I wouldn’t worry about, that bird brain always overreacts.”

“... Plagg, do you trust me?”

“More than I thought I would. Why?” Pigtails shifted a bit before letting out a breath.

“Nothing, I… it was just a dumb thought. I better get back to work, Emilie is countaining on me.” With that the two fell into a comfortable quiet before Bread spoke again. “I’m not going to tell her my identity. I value your trust too much.”

With that it was a mere two weeks later that a somewhat sleep deprived Cheshire approached the Agreste manor with a frown. She needed to talk to Emilie or Bella or whatever she chose to call herself but after a while of watching the cat hero knew that she needed to get into the house somehow. Well she had an idea, after all only two people really left the mansion over the course of the four days she watched the mansion. Well her watching and researching into the family that lived here.

With a sprint the girl vaulted over the wall and made her way to some way to big windows. She had a blonde to visit, hopefully he wouldn’t be like the other blonde she knew.

Adrien let out a sigh. According to his schedule he had about one hour before he was supposed to go to bed, like usual. But what was the point of having free time when there was nothing to do. Chloe had not called so he had no one to talk to, plus his parents had left to find some new doctor to help his mother. So here he was all alone in a big empty home. The boy bounced a basketball a few times before throwing it at the net.

“GOAL!” A voice called out from near his windows. Spinning around the blonde green eyed boy was shocked to see a smiling girl leaning on his windowsill. “Or is it a touchdown? Sorry I’m not good at sports.” Daring to get closer Adrien saw that the girl appeared to be around his age and wore cat ears and some black chinese clothes. “Oh where are my manners? My name is Cheshire, can I ask for yours?”

“Cheshire?” Adrien questioned feeling his heart pounding in his chest. How did she get here? What was she doing here?

“How rude, asking a question and not even introducing yourself.” The black haired girl commented, making the boy realize he spoke his questions aloud. “But since I did show up out of the blue I might as well answer.” The girl leaned against the side in an attempt to put Adrien at ease. “You see I met your mother recentially and she asked me to help her with something so I came here to drop it off.” Reaching behind her Cheshire pulled out a vanilla folder. “So if I could just drop these off with you that would be good.”

“My mom contacted you?” Adrien looked a bit more relieved but kept his guard up. “What did she want?”

“Well you would need to ask her. But try to keep it between you and her. I don’t think she wants others to know.” Cheshire gave the boy a bright smile. “So how about letting me in so I can hand this off to you?”

“How can I trust you?”

“Oh, you got a good head on your shoulder.” Cheshire seemed to mull the question over in her mind for a bit. “I really got nothing. Maybe you could look online? I think there are a few rumors about me going around online. Pretty sure that was how your mom found me.”

“Alright?” Daring to take his eyes off of her, Adrien rushed over to his computer. Opening up some browsers Adrien was quick to type in her name only to pull up search results about the character.

“Oh come on really?” A voice from over his shoulder said while sounding entertained. “Here, try this.” Leaning over him Cheshire typed on his keyboard before hitting enter. A chat room popped up with a few people exchanging stories. “There you go.”

Frozen in place Adrien watched the chat talk to each other and greeted a new person who was talking about their recent encounter with the girl. All these stories, all these people, they were saying the same thing about her. “You're a hero.” Turning in his spot to regard the now smiling girl.

“Ah, you're flattering me.” Adrien stared at the girl as she put the folder on his desk. “You’ll make sure she gets this?” If all of these people were saying she was a hero and she came here to give something to his mom. “Well I’ll see you later.”

“Wait!” Adrien called to her. “Are you really just going to leave?”

“Unless you have something you need help with?” Cheshire joked with a teasing edge.

Well his parents wouldn’t be home for a long time. “Are you any good with video games? Because I’m stuck on this one part of Ultimate Mecha Strike.”

“Really that old game?” Cheshire moked while leaning forward. “I suppose I can help you.”

“Oh you thought I meant the original?” Enjoying the confusion Adrien crossed the room and pressed his remote making the opening sequence play on the screen. In his personal opinion UMS3 definitely had one of the better openings.

“WHAT!” Oh her reaction was worth it. “That just came out!”

“So can you help me?” Okay he might have been enjoying this a bit more than he should but this was the first time he had somebody else in his room. Chloe didn’t count, she made it all about her.

“Gimme, Gimme.” The green eyed girl ran towards him with eagerness. So she did like playing video games. This might just be fun.
