Puppy Dog Eyes

Summary:

Dog

Olivia should have known she was no match for Elliot’s puppy dog eyes.

Notes:

*I just had too.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Olivia had always known that Elliot was crazy.

Twenty four years of friendship and one year of dating had secured that for her.

But she was pretty sure that he had officially lost his mind.

“We are not getting a dog, El.” She crossed her arms over her chest as she watched him kneeling before her, his fingers scratching at the ears of a tiny little puppy.

“Oh come on, Liv, haven’t you always wanted a dog?” He looked up at her with that look in his eyes and she sighed.

Sure, she had dreamed about it as a child.

But the older she got the more work she realized it would be.

And the more of a hassle it would be.

Dogs and ninth story apartments didn’t go together too well.

“Elliot…” She remembered a time when his kids had begged him and Kathy for a dog.

That had been another lifetime ago though and now those kids were all grown up and starting families of their own.

“The boys would love a dog.” He had to know that using the kid card on her was unfair.

Of course the boys would love a dog.

What fifteen and almost ten year old wouldn’t?

“Don’t you dare drag them into this.” It wasn’t right, because he knew that she couldn’t say ‘no’ to the two of them.

They may have passed the little kid stage, but they both made the best puppy dog eyes and she was a sucker for them both.

Just like she was a sucker for the man kneeling before her.

“Are you going to walk the dog, Elliot? Feed it? Clean up after it?” Because she would not, under any circumstances, be scooping poop up or taking the dog for walks at midnight.

“That’s why we have kids, Liv.” She rolled her eyes as she smirked.

“You mean our sons, who can’t manage to put their shoes away or remember to brush their teeth?” They were good boys, the best if you asked her, but they were typical boys.

And now that they were under the same roof, well they were a complete disaster sometimes.

“They want a dog, Liv.” She knew that, but she was starting to wonder which of the three boys in her house wanted a dog more. “They’ll take care of it.”

“Fine.” God she was a goner wasn’t she? “But if I find so much as a drool stain on one of my heels…”

He jumped up and wrapped his arms around her, kissing her softly before pulling back and offering her the biggest grin.

“See, I told you it would be worth it to get a place with a backyard.” Oh so that was why he wanted the brownstone that Fin had just happened to stumble upon.

“Mhm.” She shook her head as she cupped his cheeks between her palms. “Pick something small, please.”

But he was already pulling away from her and toward the room behind them, his eyes lighting up as he was met with a chorus of barks.

She had a feeling they weren’t going to make it out of here anytime soon.

And judging by Elliot’s shit eating grin, they weren’t going to make it out of here with only dog either.
