The month of spooks and scares was around in Paris this time of year and Marinette was ready to get her costume set up for the mask party two weeks from now.
Her visits from Chat Noir had been getting more and more frequent over the past seven months, since their coincidental meeting during one of the fights. Where, as the feline hero likes to recall it as, 'his moment to rescue the fair princess'.
As their visits get more and more frequent, their jokes and pranks also grew. The first being Chat Noir sticking a small sticky note on almost every possible surface in the bluenette's room with a cat pun on each note. Took her almost a month after to remove them all.
Marinette threw her own tricks and pranks in from time to time, but considering that it was only Chat who came over, she couldn't prank him at his home.
Tonight was a quiet night, at least so far. Marinette was working diligently on her costume. Sketching the idea, note taking on the colors, and making a list on certain items she'll need to make it come to life.
Her kwami, Tikki, was quietly munching on a pumpkin decorated cookie as she watches her holder work on the designs.
"Do you think Chat Noir would be visiting tonight?" Tikki asks in curiosity.
"I'm not sure," Marinette replies, glancing at her phone for the time.
It was only nine o'clock this evening. With this feline hero, nobody knows when he might show up. It might be at eight in the evening or three in the morning.
A soft knock lands on her window, making the bluenette jump from her seat. Her head snaps over to the window but the only visible thing left was a flick of a- white tail?
'It must be a stray cat, no worries,' Marinette thought to herself as she got up and checked the window.
Nothing was there. It could've just been an imaginary thing, or supposedly a prank from her feline partner. With a roll of her eyes, she stood at the center of the room, her hands placed on her hips in a sass filled way.
"Chat Noir, if you're here, you can come out now." Marinette calls out.
Silence only followed. While the bluenette was waiting for an answer. The feline hero was outside on her terrace snickering. He had planned the best prank on the planet. Chat Noir had bribed Plagg to allow his suit to temporarily be white. The idea came to him during a model run-through where his hair was to be dyed white. So for the next week or so, he would have white hair.
And the feline thought it would be hilarious to jump down as a 'ghost' cat. With the white suit, white hair, and glowing blue eyes it would certainly freak out his bluenette friend.
Tikki notices the feline's shadow and jumps into hiding, wary of the outcome were she to be caught.
His tail flicks in the air as he watches Marinette wander around her room, in search for him. Silently, he opened the trapdoor and made his way onto her bed as Marinette searched her bathroom.
Chat Noir flicks off the lights, reaching out with his staff, and crouched down.
"Odd, the lights weren't off when I left this room." Marinette murmurs softly.
With his night vision, he watches as the bluenette stumbles around to the dark to find the switch. After a few moments, the lights came back on and Marinette turns to face the white feline.
"Hello Marinette~" He says eerily.
His idea of her response was a jump and possibly something thrown at him.
It definitely wasn't the usually response.
Her eyes widened. Fear and terror filled her sight. Memories of fighting Chat Blanc flashed in her head. He couldn't be here. There was no sign of an akuma from Tikki, so why is he here?
Her knees buckled and she slipped onto the ground. Tears were beginning to slightly form in her eyes.
"Y-You-" She stammers softly, her body shaking.
"Hey, hey, Marinette!" Chat Noir responds with wide eyes, jumping down and running to her side.
"It's just me." He says softly, willing the suit to go back to its original color, although his hair stayed a silver white.
"Damn you, cat!" Marinette cries into his chest.
"I'm sorry, I didn't think it would've spooked you like that." He responds softly, stroking her hair as she shakily cries.
Marinette lets out a soft whimper as she holds herself closely to the feline hero.
"I really thought he came back again." She whispers quietly, half of it being muffled by his chest.
Chat Noir frowns confused, but he keeps quiet and lets her let it out for a moment. Softly, he strokes her hair with one hand as the other was drawing smooth circles on her back.
The bluenette sniffles softly before pulling her head up. The feline hero quickly lets go and sits cross legged in front of her. Marinette wipes the half crusted tears off her face and wipes her nose with the back of her sleeve.
Her eyes held a form of broken that Chat Noir never had seen, neither as a hero or as a friendly student.
"I'm really sorry, Mari." He says quietly, his head bowed down and his ears flattened against his head.
"It's alright, Chaton. You didn't mean it." Marinette responds with a tired smile.
"Come on, let's go watch a movie or something," she waves over to her bed as she brings her laptop out.
The edges of Chat's lips quirked up as he made his way over to her and rested on her lap as they watched a Halloween themed movie.
