A Million Dreams for the World We're Gonna Make

Summary:

Rex might as well start planning his funeral. The General was probably going to skin him alive with his lightsaber, Ahsoka was never going to talk to him again, he would lose all respect from his men, and the Kaminoans would decommission him a hundred times over. And he probably ruined Ahsoka’s life too.

Rex groaned and hid his face on his almost-non-existent pillow and started to sob.

And even though his mind was clouding with endless possibilities of different futures to come, there was one fear reigning above anything else.

How was he going to raise a child, in the middle of the war?

Ahsoka gets pregnant in the middle of the Clone Wars. The Galaxy goes into chaos, because Dooku, being the secretly soft person he is, doesn't want anyone to kill his great-great-great-grandpadawan's accidental child in the middle of fighting the war. So he kinda pauses the Clone Wars until Ahsoka gives birth.

The Council and Palpatine are forgotten, in this AU of how Rex and Ahsoka unintentionally saved the galaxy.

Notes:

This story idea came onto me in the middle of my shower, and i decided I just had to write it. There are not so many Ao3 fics on this topic (If you know of one plz tell me) and if they are, they are never finished. So I decided to give it a try.

Title from the Greatest Showman Song: A Million Dreams

Chapter 1: Mr. Kix, I don’t feel so good

Chapter Text

Since when had walking around the Resolute felt so tiring?

She literally had only walked from her quarters to the mess hall. That's it! She couldn't believe it. Was she getting old? She was just seventeen for Force's sake. Maybe the war was wearing her down? But she never gets tired. She was better than this. Was she getting out of shape? She didn't think that was possible in the middle of a war.

Ahsoka got her pathetic ration bars and sat down next to Rex with a dramatic huff. Echo raised an eyebrow as if to ask 'What's wrong?'. She just waved her hand and looked down at her "food". She suddenly felt like it was too little. They were sitting at one the tables in the mess hall, Jesse, Kix, Echo, Fives and Tup. Hardcase was probably thinking of another way to prank Anakin and Dogma was in the armory organizing the weapons. "Because the regs say all troopers must put their armory in their specific spot, which is designed to each trooper's number. But of course no one listens. They leave them everywhere! Brothers these days, couldn't follow a simple rule for the sake of their life" He had said.

Rex had noticed her bad mood, and offered her some caf. "Are you okay?" He asked in a whisper. Ahsoka suddenly felt nauseous at the thought of caf, and she scrunched up her nose and denied. She didn't miss the worried look Rex sent her way.

Fives sat down between Echo and Tup. He seemed to sense the wave of bad morning from Ahsoka, because his face immediately turned into a frown. "Hey vod'ika you okay?" Normally, having any of the men call her their sister would immediately lift her spirits, but she was too out of it today to start a chat, so she just mumbled something as she put her face in her hands.

Rex grabbed her shoulders, and turned her so she could face him. "Ahsoka what's wrong?" Kix stood up and checked her temperature. "I'm fine," She said as she swatted their hands away. "I'm just tired" Kix sent her a disapproving look and signaled Rex to meet him at the medbay. Ahsoka sensed what they were going to do but was too late to do anything less than complain as Rex practically dragged her across the halls of the Resolute, into the medbay.

“You guys are so dramatic” She whined as they physically made her lay down on one of the empty beds at medbay. Rex sat down next to her, and started caressing her lekku. Ahsoka melted into the bed and started to relax. Kix got a datapad and started asking her questions, obviously trying to ignore Rex’s place on her bed. “Okay Commander, you’re saying you feel tired?”

Ahsoka supposed there was no point in denying it now, as she was already in the medbay anyway. “Yes! I walked from my quarters to the mess hall and I was already winded. Am I getting old or something?”

Rex kept caressing her lekku as a soft smile played on his face. “You’re seventeen cyare. You look and act young”

Kix (Still ignoring Rex) bombarded her with more questions. “Any pain?”

“Nope, but I have been feeling more hungry. I sometimes get headaches”

“What about your lungs?”

“Nope, all clear”

“Anything out of the usual?”

Ahsoka sighed. “Now that I think about it, I am reacting strongly to smells. Rex offered me caf and I couldn't stand the smell of it. I felt like throwing up.”

Rex sent her a worried look and squeezed her hand. She managed a small smile before Kix spoke again.

“When was the last time you had your period?”

Ahsoka seemed a little confused by the question. Now that she thought about it, she missed her period for this month. She honestly forgot all about it and didn’t think much of it. “I think about a month ago”

Kix frowned. “Okay don’t come at me, but I have to ask these questions just to be sure it isn’t what I think it is.”

Ahsoka and Rex shared a look as Kix spoke the next question out loud. “Have you two had any sex in the last month or so?”

Rex whipped his head so fast Ahsoka thought it was going to crack. ”What?” he hissed as Ahsoka glared daggers that could burn through Kix’s skull in seconds.

Kix sent them an exasperated look. “I couldn’t care less if you two were sleeping together. I’m not judging you if you are, I just need to know for medical reasons. Fives is the gossip here, not me”

Rex, still scowling at Kix, practically growled. “What does that have to do with anything?”

Kix bit his lip, and avoided their gaze. “Okay guys, don’t freak out, but I have to make sure the Commander’s not pregnant.”

“WHAT?!”

Kix held up his hands. “It’s just a test guys. It could be a cold for all I know. I’m just checking, okay?”

Ahsoka put her hands to her face and sighed. “I can already feel a headache coming” Rex kept stroking her lekku, but Ahsoka could still feel the waves of nerves coming from him. She squeezed his hand in return. “Don’t worry Rex. It’s probably nothing.”

Obviously it did nothing to settle his nerves, but nothing except a negative result would.

“Judging by your reaction to my question, I’m gonna assume you guys are sleeping together?” Kix asked. All he got were daggers in return. Kix smirked and wrote it down on his datapad. “I’m gonna take that as a yes.”

Ahsoka let out a sound of displeasure. “Can’t you just take the test?”

“Alright be right back”

The wait was torture, as neither Rex or Ahsoka could bear to get a word out. Ahsoka tried to tell herself it was probably nothing, probably just a bug, but she was finding it harder to believe with every passing second. She could practically feel worry radiating from Rex, and she couldn’t help but fear the worst.

No more than a minute could’ve passed, before Kix came in with a little thing no bigger than a finger, kind of shaped like a toothbrush. He held the thing up to her mouth, where there was a hole. “Alright spit here” Once that was done, he put some kind of lid over it and set it on the table.

Rex looked at Kix, eyes frantic. “What does it say!?”

“You have to wait three minutes.” Kix shrugged.

At this Ahsoka sat up. “What do you mean three minutes!? I wanna know now!”

Kix ran a hand over his head. “Well what do you want me to do Commander? That’s just how it is. It’s not that long you can do it it’s okay”

It was definitely not okay. And it was definitely the longest wait of Ahsoka’s short life. If the wait before was torture, this was agonizing torture. Time was going too slow but at the same time too fast. And like in a holomovie, she could swear she saw Kix pick up the thing in slow-motion, as his eyes comically widened while reading over the result of the little weird machine that could change their lives forever,

Kix didn’t need to say anything. His face gave it up. Ahsoka heard Rex choke back a sob, as she pulled her knees to her chest and buried her face in it.

She couldn’t see Kix’s face, but she could definitely hear his response.

“HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF CONDOMS?!?”
