Work Text:
TK was pretty certain that Carlos was crazy, because there was no way that they could afford the house that they had just pulled up in front of.
It was gorgeous, and clearly bigger than anything the two of them needed.
But his boyfriend had insisted that they take a look at it.
“Carlos, this house isn’t even for sale.” He whined out as he noticed the lack of sign in the yard, his eyes doing a double take at the size of the massive lawn.
“It’s fine, come on.” TK rolled his eyes but followed nonetheless.
If this was what it took to finally get Carlos to start looking at places, then he would indulge him however he needed to.
Because frankly, living with his father, and his boyfriend, was not how he wanted to spend the last few years of his twenties.
So when Carlos pulled a key from his jacket pocket and unlocked the front door he really didn’t think much of it.
He had certainly seen the man do stranger things before.
“So, what do you think?” He let his eyes scan the open floor plan, finding the kitchen with ease and heading toward it, admiring the clearly brand new appliances and marble countertops.
“It’s nice.” And it was nice, really nice, but it was more like a house he could see Judd and Grace in, not them. “But it’s big Carlos, we don’t need all this space.”
“It has five bedrooms and four bathrooms.” Yeah, exactly his point, they didn’t need all those bedrooms. “And the backyard is huge, and there’s a nice deck…”
“Carlos…” He held his hand up as he sighed. “What’s going on?”
“I um…” His boyfriend’s shoulders slumped and he moved toward him, stopping so that he could reach out and take his hands in his. “I may have already bought the house.”
His mumbled words didn’t phase TK for a second, until they set in, and then his heart began to race.
“You bought the house?” They had been without a place of their own for almost eight months now, and while they were getting desperate, TK was almost certain that an apartment would do the trick for now.
“Look, I know we said that we would do this together but…” Carlos took a deep breath before looking upward, his eyes locking with TK’s as he smiled. “I don’t wanna move again. Ever.”
“Sooo you bought the biggest house in Travis County?” He was confused, so very confused.
“I bought the house because I took one look at it and all I could think about was us spending the rest of our lives in it.” The words hit TK right in the soul and he swallowed as he blinked back the sudden tears. “I wanna have a nice home, a safe home, one where we can live together. Raise some babies. Get a dog, or two.”
“I thought you said you’d never get a dog.” Nevermind the babies comment, he was stuck on the fact that the man who was very against owning a pet was now possibly committing to owning more than one.
“Buttercup’s grown on me.” The smile on Carlos’ face was soft and sweet and it melted TK’s heart. “Besides, you said you wanted a big family so…”
“So you bought us a house?” He still couldn’t believe it, because it was a big purchase and it was a big step.
And yet, it all felt so incredibly right.
“I did.” Carlos reached a hand down into his pocket and pulled out another key, holding it up in the air as he smiled. “I know it’s not the diamond ring that Michelle keeps insisting that I’m hiding somewhere, but I figured it was a good step.”
“It’s the perfect step.” He leaned in then, pressing a kiss to his boyfriend’s lips as he smiled.
Maybe the house was a little big for just the two of them, but TK had a feeling that it wouldn’t take too long before it was full of their friends and family, a few dogs, and hopefully even some babies.
