Guilty Pleasures

Summary:

Firefighter Dean catches her watching 9-1-1... he has some complaints. This is basically my life. Some of this is direct quotes from my firefighter husband.

Work Text:

Dean was at his monthly poker night with the guys and she was taking full advantage of the alone time. She was on her second glass of wine as she finished her third episode of her newest guilty pleasure show, 9-1-1. She knew Dean would hate it for all its inaccuracies, so she only watched when he wasn’t home.

Reaching toward the end table, she grabbed the remote and clicked the enter button to skip the end credits and start the next episode. She took a sip of her wine and then another before settling back into her comfortable position on the sectional.

She watched as a yellow car weaved through traffic with police cars chasing behind. The camera cut to Athena as she relayed information to Dispatch. Next, they cut to Maddie and Josh in the call center as Maddie answered a call from the driver of the car the police were chasing.

Over the next couple minutes, the driver, a 15 year old kid, explained that he was unable to stop. Maddie talked to the kid as she, Josh and Athena figured out a plan to stop the car as safely as they could. The kid wasn’t willing to damage the car because he was convinced his dad loved it more than him. Maddie conferenced in the dad to convince his son that that wasn’t true.

When she was deeply engrossed in a show, it wasn’t abnormal for her to miss the rumble of the Impala as it pulled into the driveway. She jumped when she heard the key slide into the lock. Narrowly avoiding spilling her wine, she fumbled to grab the remote and press the pause button just as Dean pushed the door open.

He glanced between her and the TV suspiciously. “Hi,” he greeted.

She gave him her best innocent smile. “Hi. You’re home early. How was poker night?”

“Good. We were all tired so we called it a little early.” He looked at the TV once more. “Whatcha watching and why do you look so guilty?”

She shrugged. “Guilty? I don’t know what you mean. It’s just a show I’ve been binging.”

His face quickly morphed into a pout as he moved to sit beside her. “You started a new binge without me?”

“I needed something to watch when you’re on shift.”

Wrapping his arm around her shoulder, he pulled her closer. “I guess. Play, but if I like it, you’re rewatching it with me.”

She sighed and pushed play. “No chance of that,” she mumbled to herself. Seconds later, the scene changed to the crew in the fire truck as they discussed the car’s speed.

Dean glanced down at her. She felt his eyes on her but kept her gaze locked on the screen. “So what's happening?”

“Accelerator is stuck or something; he can’t stop,” she explained quickly without breaking her focus on the screen.

“Why doesn’t he just shift into neutral or turn the car off then?”

She shrugged. “He can’t shift. Also, because added TV drama.”

“Is the ignition broken, too?”

She ignored his question. They watched quietly for a moment as the kid pulled the emergency brake and crashed into the fire engine.

She chanced a look at him. His brows furrowed in a mix of confusion and frustration. “They just destroyed a classic car and the bumper on that engine for no reason. What are they— It was a front impact, just open the door.” He scoffed. “Why take halligans to the topper?”

“Shh.” She placed her hand over his mouth. “It’s just a TV show.”

He grumbled wordlessly before wrapping his fingers around her wrist and pulling her hand over to his cheek. “You know, firefighting is plenty exciting. It doesn’t need all these over-the-top and entirely-inaccurate additions. Oh, good, yeah, put the c-collar on after you yanked him out of the car. Because that’s helpful.”

When the scene ended, she leaned forward to press the stop button and began scrolling through the menu to find a different show.

“Why’d you stop it?” Dean asked.

She chuckled as she glanced over her shoulder at him. “Seriously? How am I supposed to watch it with you critiquing every tiny thing?”

“I can’t help it,” he defended. “Maybe if they did anything correctly, I wouldn’t. The only thing they get credit for here is the music choice.”

“I’ve watched two whole seasons already. So I can promise you that they don’t. If you really wanted to watch more, we could just get some duct tape.”

He looked confused. “For what?”

“For your mouth.”

He smirked. “I can think of better things to do with my mouth.” Pulling her back against the couch, his lips found the spot on her neck just below her ear. His fingers slowly trailed up her bare thigh as he continued to pepper kisses up and down her neck and shoulder. She whined as he leaned back. “See, now you can watch,” he said before resuming his ministrations.

She laughed. “Yeah, right. I can totally focus on the TV now.” Wrapping her arms around his neck, she dropped the remote on the floor and pulled him into a heated kiss.
